Elvis considered Roy to be one of the best singers in America. He said he had the 'perfect voice'. Elvis covered many other singers' songs, but he never covered a Roy Orbison song because he thought nobody could match Roy on his own songs. Roy was a very humble man and was loved by everyone who met him. One of the true greats.

Roy Orbison had one of the most smooth powerful voices. He could sing real high falsetto & also low. Elvis Presley loved Roy's voice. Roy had lots of hits in the 60's such as "Running Scared", "Crying", "In Dreams", "Love Hurts", "Blue Bayou", "Oh, Pretty Woman" etc. In 1988, he co-founded the Traveling Wilburys (a rock supergroup) with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care" & "End Of The Line".

He had such a tragic life. To read about it would tear your heart out, but he struggled through it. His voice will never be duplicated

But it ended well. Jeff Lynne, who idolized Roy as a lad, resurrected Roy's career by producing and co-writing a big comeback album for him in the late 1980s. Then Jeff invited Roy to be in the super-group he and George Harrison were forming, The Traveling Wilburys. Roy absolutely LOVED being in that band with its two co-founders, as well as other legends, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. Sadly, Roy died before they could make a music video of their second big hit. But he went out on top--befitting such an icon of Rock 'n Roll.

You're in for a treat if you explore the Roy Orbison rabbit hole. He had a voice like no other. Others to check out: Crying In Dreams Blue Angel It's Over. Orbison enjoyed success in the early 1960s, though he was deathly shy. He either lost or broke his glasses prior to a concert and because his eyesight was so poor, he wore his prescription sunglasses for the show. He enjoyed the fact that he could "hide" behind them and the look gave him an air of mystery, so the sunglasses became a trademark of sorts. Sadly, by the late 1960s there was a major cultural change and his music was no longer popular and he was mostly forgotten. The next 20 years of his life were tragic, including deaths of his wife (whom he had divorced and remarried) and his son. He enjoyed a Renaissance in the late 1980s with the supergroup The Travelling Wilburys (including Tom Petty, George Harrison from the Beatles, and Jeff Lynne from Electric Light Orchestra), as well as a new solo album. Suddenly, a new generation was discovering his magical voice and filling concert halls to watch him sing. While on tour in December of 1988, Orbison died of a heart attack at age 52. The one good thing was that he went out on top. There is a concert video called "Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night" that was filmed at a concert in LA along with other musicians including Bruce Springstee, k. d. lang, and numerous other big names (in the 1980s) not long before he died that is really worth watching.

i remember when i was a kid, my mom loved roy orbison, and one time when i was 7 she took me to see him perform, after the show she managed to get backstage with me, security was removing her when roy saw me, and told them to let her past and to get me a soda, my mum told roy how his music helped her through the struggles of being a single mom (back when single mothers were considered societal outcasts who were looked down on by everyone, even family members) and roy praised her for not giving up on being a mother and for ignoring what society says by giving your boy a good home, and then reached into a suitcase and placed a pair of his sunglasses on my head, saying "your to young to understand this, but when your older, just know what your mother did for you is more than anyone ought to have done, but when your older, you will understand, and hopefully by then, single mothers will no longer be shunned, and instead praised" he ruffled my hair and then we went on our way

Hi Dani! I must say, I am a big fan of your reactions to all of these old songs, including those done by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and The Righteous Brothers. I appreciate the old songs too as those are when music was really music and like especially music from the 50’s & 60’s the best! I was just wondering since you are into doing Roy Orbison reactions, if you could do a reaction to the song “In Dreams”- the original recorded version? This is mine and my late Father’s favorite Roy Orbison song! It is very beautiful and touching! You would love it as well! 🙂 That would be great, thank you! ❤️🎶

I loved Roy Orbison since say back in the day. I remember buy his first big hit (which was this song) when it first came out. So I was thrilled to get to meet him when my brother produced a concert by him in Lynn, Massachusetts, in 1988. His voice was unbelievable. He talked to us and signed autographs after the show for about a half hour, but I stuck with my brother and talked to him for about an hour. He was the nicest guy, very soft spoken but very friendly. He loved it when one of my friends told him he had named his daughter after Roy's song "Leah". Unfortunately the concert was held on a Thursday, May 26th. The ticket sales started of very strong, then the Boston Bruins announced the game date for the final games of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Concert ticket sales dropped to a trickle and only about one quart to a third of the seats were sold. When the Bruins are in the Stanley Cup everyone goes crazy for hockey and if their not watching it on TV their watching it at their favorite bar or restaurant. Roy was very sympathetic and promised my brother he would do a show for him the following year and wouldn't take a cut of the tickets, but would just charge enough to cover his traveling expenses. He wanted to see my brother make up for any losses from the show. Unfortunately, that December was when Roy passed away. But that shows the kind of caring person Roy was. My only regret was that I didn't go with my brother when he drove Roy back to his hotel. Roy invited him in and played some songs for him on his acoustic, and then pulled out another guitar and he and my brother sat around for almost 2 hours playing old songs together. I sure would have loved to be part of that jam session!

I think this is the song Roy wrote hoping that Elvis would record. For some reason Roy couldn't reach him to look at it so he recorded it himself. I could totally get imagine Elvis singing it.
