Elvis always said that if he could sing like anyone it would be Roy Orbison. A great tribute to a man with a majestic voice.

They didn't ever record together, did they? That would be an amazing pairing of voices.
Roy's voice is able to convey such emotion and pain that it can make a stone cry.

A lot of stones were Roy Orbison fans .. particularly when he played "rock" music ! 😉😅
"Crying" is one of Roy Orbison's best songs. I'm glad you chose a slower tempo song because it really shows off Roy's operatic voice and incredible singing range. Heartbreaking lyrics but beautiful.

I loved this one! You’re right, it really shows the range and versatility in his voice. Amazing
If there was one word I could describe Roy Orbison’s voice it would be “haunting”. You just get cold chills.
The tragedy he went through when his wife died in an accident could contribute to his ability to show real pain while singing.
Elvis said Roy had the best voice in or on radio, high praise indeed!
I saw him in concert shortly before his death and he was amazing. One great song after another... and hit those notes! The packed ampitheater went crazy. Greatest concert I've ever seen... and I've seen a lot.
Saw him libe ln Glasgow in 65 still listening
This and "In Dreams" are my favorites of his.
The "Touch of your hand" line ALWAYS puts a lump in my throat.
4:23 My favorite part of reaction videos to Roy are when he hits those high notes, and the creators' eyes widen in amazement. My dad's a huge Big O fan, and I'm sure I was listening to Roy since I was in the womb!
Heartbreak personified!
Roy was one of the most beloved and admired musician by other musicians.
What a great reaction to a CLASSIC song sung by an amazingly unique voice that was Roy Orbison! NO MISTAKING HIS VOICE, EVER!
Elvis Presley once stated that Roy had 'most perfect voice' and referred to him as the 'greatest singer in the world'
It's Over is another heartbreak song by the big 'O'. He goes even higher on this one.
This song speaks to anyone who had a broken heart, Roy's singing is so unique, so much depth to convey the sadness.
This is a live performance, too. What a spectacular voice.
This took me back. In the early 60s, I was lucky enough to see live a number of the then top US acts, here in the UK. The likes of Roy, Gene Pitney, Everley Brothers, Brenda Lee etc. And it was true - the audience sat and listened. Then the Beatles came on the scene and the girls' screaming drowned the music. Happy Days!
Mesmerizing.
Running Scared is another great one by Roy
What a voice the big O
Always loved this song!
Roy was known as "The Voice" because he was totally unique. He had a five range octave and could slide from one to another effortlessly. His Black and White Nights concert is amazing, Elvis's TCB Band played and the lineup of stars who came out to sing with Roy goes on and on. Roy has so many great songs, it's hard to pick just one. If you want a great one to review, check out Indian Summer with The Gatlin Brothers, Roy Orbison, and Barry Gibb. Really get a sense of Roy's range any why every artist wanted to sing with Roy.
Always loved Roy. I love his song In Dreams.
Roy’s voice is one of the greatest, EVER ! His song “The Comedians” is something of a masterpiece. It’s from his final album “Mystery Girl” (possibly his best album) . Thank you ladies. ✌️

Talk about a heartbreak song, It’s Over, is it!
Such a beautiful song! Love Roy Orbison! This is my favorite song of his. His voice is amazing! Great reaction.
I'm crying. X.
Girls, the song that you tried to play two live streams ago, "You're Only Lonely" was an ode to Roy Orbison's trademark style. The cover version you tried to play got blocked on the livestream, but the original by J D Souther (who wrote the song and knew and played for Orbison at times) is unmistakable in its reference to Roy's style! It was a number one hit for JD Souther in 1976. Perhaps at some point you guys cab try to react to his original version. It's a beautiful song! In the meantime, another Roy Orbison song I recommend is, "Only The Lonely"
We listened to this on AM radio.
Roy's version of "Crying" with kd lang is stunning. Other brilliant songs by Orbison are In Dreams and It's Over. The king of heartbreak.
For a founding member of rock and roll royalty, Roy had a tragic life. His beloved wife was killed before his eyes when the motorcycle she was riding was hit by a car. Years later while he was on tour his house caught fire and killed a couple of his children. When he wrote sad songs, he was living them.
Roy was the man. so glad you're sticking with him.
Roy was such a great singer. Great reaction!
My favorite is In Dreams. So hauntingly beautiful. It’s a must.
It is a torch song. Like the expression "still carrying the torch for her." In very old times men used to walk a lady time carrying a torch to light the way.
An absolute classic performance. My friend Cindy Walker wrote "Dream Baby" ans Shadaroba" for him. He also covered her classic "You Don't Know Me".

WOW
The audience is well behaved, because it’s the 60’s and that was accepted then
Important to note, this is a LIVE performance.
‘Running Scared’ is a wonderful song of Roy’s.

Roy's personal life was full of tragic loss. But he survived.
This was from his comeback concert A Black and White Night. The back-up musician lineup was insane!
This song was recorded very early in his career, as he looks so young. Later on his voice becomes a lot more powerful and the high notes much stronger. I always thought that he just kept getting better as time went on. So sad that he passed away from a heart problem much too soon - one of the all-time greats.

Yes! I also touted the theory that his voice peaked much later than this! The question is, how on earth did one improve upon THIS 😯
Yes, that is a beautiful song. He had an amazing emotive voice. Beautiful sad heartbreak unrequited love song.
A beautiful vibrato, which as you did the Seekers yesterday I'll mention that Roy and Judith are my favourite male and female vibratos. Very consistent and even from the moment the first sound comes out of their mouth. I'd classify the song as Unrequited Love rather than Love or Breakup. It is post break up but it isn't about the break up. Running Scared is my favourite Big O song, such a dramatic and intense song, but he has so many wonderful songs in his catalogue. She's a Mystery to Me, Blue Bayou, Only the Lonely, I Drove All Night, In Dreams, Candy Man. Just so many but I'll try to control myself. I should be asleep now anyway. G'night.
He created lovely music. Sort of a country feel with pop sensibility
This was an actual experience for Roy. He was in the barber shop when his ex was walking by. She saw him and stepped in to say hello, held hos hand for a minute and walked away. And then it all came rushing in on him...
A bunch of college students herded into the gym, told to sit there and that they'd have to listen it to it until the producer was happy. You could tell that most of them weren't interested! And I'm sure that Roy didn't look too happy either!
and most importantly -- he writes all of the compositions ....
NOONE ELSE COULD EVER SING THIS SONG LIKE ROY DOES! THE EMOTION AND "CRY" IN HIS VOICE IS WHAT MADE THIS SONG! LOVED YOUR REACTION TO THIS MUSIC VIDEO.
I don't know how old pretty daughter is but I am 73 and Mom will probably remember how audiences used to be very respectful and quiet during a performance. Believe it or not..when I saw Led Zeppelin and Doobie Brothers in 1975 we were still respectful to the artists ,but it seems after that it has been chaos and every man and woman for themself at a concert. Keep up the great reviews. Peace.
Great song (love that Roy is singing about a subject that a man is usually at this time, not singing about, and his amazing vibrato in the high notes), you should check out KD Lang's version of this. She performed the song at the Roy Orbison tribute concert after his death, and when he was inducted into the songwriters hall of fame, on the request of his widow Barbara. She has basically inherited the song, and performs it at her concerts.

Yes please....check out KD Lang's cover. She will blow you away. She once said that this one song is the only song that she was nervous about doing because she has that much respect for Roy but she did it proper justice. ✌️

In Dreams I Walk With You should be the next Roy Orbison song to react
Roy's voice was incredible. One of the best ever singers. Walk On is another song not to be missed.
The well behaved bit was true, audiences were known to be loud for other acts but when Roy came on they stopped to listen - I got this from my mum who saw him and lots of others.
. . . I grew up with Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and all the others. When this song "Crying" came out I was 21 years old.
Thanks so much! Excellent choice of video also. It is both a Love song and a Heartbreaker. It really showcases Roy's vocal range being sad and Beautiful at the same time. No wonder Elvis loved Roy's Voice.
A song that you should check out that Roy Orbison was in is Indian Summer. It features Barry Gibb and the Gatlin Brothers.
He was touring England in 1963 with a group you may have heard of...the Beatles. Supposedly John Lennon was upset that they were opening for him- they should be the Main act. Roy said no problem, I'll open for you.... After his set- the crowd booed the Beatles off the stage
Love you guys !! One and Only, Roy Orbison !! Never off key !! and sang 4 octaves...
Roy Orbison, "Leah"
Thank you. Love you guys. Hi from Maryland
Note the girls in the audience. They know EXACTLY what Roy is getting across.
Its just flat out sad that roy left this earth to soon. Roy vs Elvis. Roy all day long❤️🤘
I love this song I couldn't help but laugh at the audience tho did they not dance in them days haha
There's a wonderful version of 'crying' by Roy Orbison along with K.D. Lang that is definitely worth watching, also, K.D. Lang's version of 'hallelujah' is also one of the very best versions you'll ever see/hear, I hope you make time to view and listen to both of these wonderful recirdings. Please do, you'll definitely be pleased.
Royorbison was a great singer one of the best
No one can sing as Roy can he was the greatest singer that ever graced this planet his voice was incredible he could go through the whole musical scale in one song he id it in this one .
Always said Roy Orbison is the male version of Patsy Cline - what a fabulous voice; didn't need a gimmick cause he had the chops!!
Elvis once said that Roy Orbison had the best voice of all the early rock singers.
You notice Roy is about a foot away from the mike, yet projects a powerful and very clear voice with so much feeling. He was an incredible talent!
Best singer ever!!!!
Roy Orbison had such a great voice. He was reverenced by many artist including Elvis and the Bee Gees. His voice has a unique sound. An unusual video he sang with the Gatlin brothers and Barry Gibb is extremely good it is called Indian Summer. Love your reaction!
Back in the day, Elvis and Roy were my favorite singers.
I love Roy Orbison’s voice. My favourite song of his is “you got it” a brilliant song!
The late great Roy Orbison had an operatic type of voice; a tenor, if you will. This guy had so many hits, both lovely ballads like this and the more raucous "Oh! Pretty Woman" and "Claudette". I love his song "She's A Mystery Girl". Give it a listen. U2 helped him out on that album and you can hear their influence on the song. Give his version of "Blue Bayou" a listen. Linda Ronstandt had a hit with it, but I prefer Roy's version. Glad you discovered him!
I’ve always thought of his voice as haunting
Treat yourselves to the duet Roy Orbison does with K.D. Lang performing this song on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson". The moment she sings...... "That the touch of your hand, Can start me crying." ............a star was born. Btw.....K.D. Lang's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is one of the best....... ..........and, she does it barefoot!!!
You should hear him do this song as a duet with K.D. Lang. Its even more beautiful if that is possible.
Only The Lonely - Dream Baby - In Dreams - Breaking Up Is Breaking My Heart - I Drove All Night - You've Got It. Songs from the beginning and tail end of Roy's career that you should listen and react too.
Great reaction, guys. I’ve always loved Roy Orbison and seen him sing live once in concert. He sounds exactly like his records. I’ve always loved “Only The Lonely “.
my favourite singer
I am sorry I love the daughter here, she is very beautiful.
If this song doesn't make you cry then I don't know what would. The kids in the audience back then were taught to be quiet, watch the show and be polite. The Beatles came later and they blew the doors off after their Mom's screamed for Elvis.
He had a lot to cry over.
I saw Roy Orbison in concert in 1965 at Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University) in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was held in the men's gym which had seating for ~2,500 and was less than half full. He was great!!!
There was something special about his voice.
I don't know if you've seen the David Lynch film "Mullholland Drive" but there is a heart wrenching acapella Spanish version of this song, sung so beautifully by a lady called Rebekah del Rio. The emotion is so intense you can actually feel it sort of vibrate around the room. So beautiful.
This being recorded live in studio, I think it likely that the audience has been asked to keep it mellow so as not to interfere with recording. I watched brief video of musicians talking about Roy Orbison, and they all marvelled at his professionalism, and at his ability to literally walk into the studio off the street, step up to the mic with no warmups, and be sharp enough to do a song in one take, if the band was up to it. He was a marvel in voice and phrasing.
Mom has so much love, everything is a love song. lol
Roy Orbison wrote his best songs when he felt most miserable. He had quite a few personal tragedies.🤠
Another post break-up song from the fabulous 60's. Herman's Hermits, Mrs. Brown you've got a Lovely Daughter.
This is from a 1965 show, you may find that most TV performances from this era may appear a bit reserved. It's likely, because it is being filmed, that the audience have been briefed by the director to be respectful, they maybe only had one take at this and didn't want anything disrupting the recording. Mentioning that, the song begins with long extended shots of the audience and then only the backing band, even after Roy starts singing there's quite a lag before we actually see him. It looks like they were possibly having some technical issues, or it's just bad camera directing or no camera rehearsal and they were editing on the fly. Plus, for those cameras benefit, all the house lights are up, which can be very mood destroying for the audience and make them more self conscious. Having said that this is one of Roy's gentle ballads, so no one's going to be screaming to this one. One thing to note, which is not the case for most TV performances of the time, is that Roy and the band are actually performing live. The majority of TV show directors would not take the risk, they'd have the acts miming to their latest hit just to make things run smoother and quicker and not have to worry about micing everything up and attempting to replicate the record. The other option you may come across is they had a pre-prepared tape with just the backing tracks on, and just overdubbed the vocals live. All the acts of this time, of the 1960's and 70's were very capable of performing live, and as pop developed into rock, and a more rebellious era, a lot absolutely hated being made to mime for the TV cameras. Some would even goof about to make the point, barely bothering to pretend they were playing. BTW I would recommend a couple of cover versions of this song, the best I think is Don McLean's, but K D Lang also does a beautiful version too.
Elvis was asked what it was like to be the greatest singer in the world and Elvis immediately said, I don’t know, go ask Roy Orbison.
Doesn't this show how much recording of live performances have improved. So long before we even see Roy. Then we see shots of his back. Nothing can detract form his performance though.
One of his best.
Only the lonely is a great roy song and a different side of him
Don McLean did a nice cover of this song "Crying" worth a listen. He also did another song you Ladies might like called "Vincent" and another titled "Since I Don't Have You "…. Both intriguing
This was late in his career at an 'invite only' event to honor and record him live, the band and back up were all stars in their own right, considering it an honor to be there. I believe it was called A Black and White Night, and can be found on KZread.
