Thank you Palace for letting him step down and not sacking him! He deserved it to go on "his terms". Even when its only "on paper". Best of luck and tip my hat to a legend manager!

They should never have given him a contract for this season, it was backwards, it sold us all short and it put the stress and demands of the premier league onto a 76yr old's shoulders.

I love these statements. So much love… and you know there’s more to it. Roy jumped before he got pushed, and the owner is grateful for his service… and that he is now out of the way so they can bring in a new manager.

When you reach a certain age, the body doesn’t respond as well to stress. Roy has done a superb job for Palace. Without him likely they would have been - at best - a yo-yo club like Watford or Fulham, or would have simply got stuck in the Championship like so many others: (eg) WBA, QPR, Stoke, Norwich, Swansea, Blackburn etc.

Most of us fans respect what he has done for us and wish him well. This season we were doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results that's just insanity. He needed to go but I'm sure that whenever he enters Selhurst Park his name will be sung. Everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon 'look what you have done to him' when every other club at some point has wanted a manager out. It's unfair to blame fans for a 76 year olds health at 76 I hope I'm still walking. Im glad he has stepped aside with class like the gentleman he is.

He is without question one of the greatest managers in English and European football, even if he has not won many trophies, he has saved clubs time and time again and always gave everything for the sport. Hodgson deserves to have a good rest and to enjoy watching the game that he loves, he doesn't need to go through or put himself through the stress again. He did not deserve to be sacked, but to allow him to make his own decision and leave in a distinguished, dignified manner for what he has tried to do and has done at Crystal Palace. Get well soon Roy Hodgson and thank you for everything you have given to football.
