Roy Andersson: The Greatest Director You've Never Heard of

Фильм және анимация

7:48 - This part of Roy Andersson's interview has been removed for copyright reasons. He talks about the importance of empathy, that every person is vulnerable and that vulnerability is a good thing.
Roy Andersson is among the most original film makers in the history of cinema, yet many do not know his name. Here, we briefly go through his beginnings, influences, process, and the meaning behind his work. For Andersson, form and theme go hand in hand. His aesthetics are a precise expression of his ethics.

I just saw A Pigeon Sat on a Branch, at once the piece looks and feels esthetically distinct and interesting. I felt like I was in the museum, observing some amazing live artwork. It just made me understood why I've always felt Hollywood a bit empty and irrelevant. Mr. Andersson's work is quiet, orderly and carefully crafted. It allows the mental space for the viewer to question, i.e. to be curious. At times I felt I was in a live theater, at times I felt like a poem is being read to me, at times I felt like I was standing in front of a master piece painting. Mr. Andersson's work is a gift, a true master piece.

I was the only one who laughed in the theatre when I watched "Du Levande" in 2006 at the Antalya Film Festival.
