But you're right that there were a lot of sax solos in the '80s. It was probably Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street in the late '70s that set the trend.

Through the course of our lives, every one of us hears an inordinate number of songs. There are those we've forgotten about, those that were mediocre to say the least. those we thought were OK, those we thought were great, and those we thought were nothing short of amazing. And once in a while there's a track we will never ever forget because it/was FAR beyond that last category of "nothing short of amazing". I'm way more than halfway through my life (I won't make it to 102, that's without question!) and amongst the handful of tracks from my 51 years on earth I can place in that "elite" category proudly stands this sheer stunner.... I was lucky enough to see Brian Ferry at a very small live concert in Germany, I’d say less than 1,000 people, with giant earthen owls eminating a scented smoke that, by it’s sweet odor, reminded me of something we used to “fly away” from our daily worries... It was a magic concert... stage catwalking straight into the crowd, Brian close enough to touch him, vibrating with a magical charisma that one would be unable to find these days in any of the so-called “stars”... That concert was pure magic, and I thank the lord on my knees that I was at the right place at the right time back then. My one man web design company that propelled me from the bottom to the top here in Thailand innthe late 90s was called Avalon, that should say it all. I love Roxy Music and Brian Ferry to bits. It was a magic time (80s and 90s)... A time that one can only dream of nowadays, where a socialist elite tries to strangle us all to death. My strength to overcome all this is the music of the 80s and 90s. Love to all you Roxy Music fans out there. ❤️☀️🇹🇭🏖🌴🥥🐘🌈

I think you said it better than anyone else has (in this comment section). The original was already a beautiful, heartfelt song. A man baring his soul and confessing his sins… but Roxy Music just took it to a whole other level, and built (respectfully) upon the foundation presented in the original to an elegant, emotional masterpiece. This goes well beyond being merely a “cover”. This is one of the greatest tributes of all time, wrought with raw emotion and beautiful musicianship and production. Your summation is much more accurate than everything else I’ve read here.

This version has so many layers, and it cuts really deep and is very emotional, Bryan Ferry took a good song and made it really stand out, it is one of my favourite songs ever., especially when he whistles over it, 💯👍👍❤️

Man Ferry nails the shit out of it, especially the whistle solo. Not to mention Manzanera and Mckay putting out a serious 80s vibe. What a bunch of real 80s men about town, not to mention their earlier gems. You dont pull off class like this unless you were in a shooting war with Bowie in the 70s and the rooskies
