Row Boat to Mini Bass Boat Conversion
During the Fall of 2022 and early Winter of 2023, we converted my late father's 12 ft row boat into a mini bass boat. I spent a lot of time researching and then thinking through each step of the project; I thoroughly enjoyed working on the project with my youngest son Daniel and can not wait to use the boat for some killer bass fishing.
If you have any questions that I was not able to answer in the video, feel free to leave a comment and I will do my best to answer them for you.
God Bless!

I recently bought a 65 sea king to do the same conversion but im worried about how stable the the boat would be with a casting deck

Honestly, I had the same concerns. I built a quick mock up before doing the entire project. I walked on the deck, sat, stood, switched spots with my son in the back, and everything was fine. So I went ahead with the project. The final product had about the same results. We could sit, stand, and move our feet a little (there really isn't much deck to walk on anyway. I am completely comfortable with the product, whether the boat is making a wake with 7.5 outboard, trolling or just sitting in the water. I do not have any concerns about tipping or the boat rocking around. We have used it about 10 times now. Hope things work out for you!

Glad you liked the color. It took us a while to decide but it was worth it. Yes. 1 gallon was enough for the 12 feet, two coats inside and out. Plus I still have plenty for touch up for years to come. Good luck with your project.
May God watch over you and your family, enjoy the boat I've made many memories with my dad he 84 so i hope you and your family will have a long time toand remember your parents wich I think you really do with christ help all things are possible God bless you and your family and our great nation

Very nice job. I’d be careful with your rear 12v posts, they are mounted directly over you gas tank. They might ignite built up gas fumes if you ever decide to use them.
@joshuanaylor719
Ай бұрын
I completely agree. Since making the video several years ago, I immediately added thick rubber covers on those posts. I never have them exposed with the hopes of preventing any spark our arcing when I am using the gas motor. And when I hook up the second trolling motor, or charge the battery, the fuel tank is always removed.
Wow.. you’re genuine and a great dad.

Great man. Good boat. Nice vid. Im restoring my grandaddies 1957 14ft starcraft semi-v row boat. He bought it new way back when...and my grandma signed it over to me a couple months back. Its all rotted out, needs new transom, seats, etc...but you can bet your pants that im gonna make my late papaw and grandma proud and do this build RIGHT, just like you have.

You put that back battery bolt in a very bad place. You are venting concentrated gas fumes and touching trolling motor terminals or dropping something metal onto it could cause a spark create an explosion. However, thanks for the tip about the treated wood interacting with the aluminum. I looked it up and if the copper in the wood comes in contact with the aluminum it will quickly corrode it. So thanks, reconsider that power connection at the tank & be safe!
@joshuanaylor719

Hello and thank you for your reply. I was aware that the bolts in the back could have a conflict of interest with a gas can, so I did two things to remedy the situation. First I never hang the rear trolling motor and have the gas tank in the boat at the same time. I reserve that set up for electric motor only lakes and therefore have no need for the gas or the gas motor for that matter. Secondly when I am using the gas tank and the gas motor I have the exposed bolts covered with rubber covers. In my estimation this would prevent any sparks or arcing that could happen if both terminals were touched at the same time by a piece of metal. I welcome any additional thoughts from you so that my boat and any body else's boat can certainly be safe as you said. Thank you and best!

Excellent father/son project I am sure he will remember like you remember your fishing trips with your dad. You did fine work and a lot of nice touches. BTW, thanks for the Word. I would note a better translation of the verse you mentioned in Cor. is 'renewed' versus 'new'. In the case of the rowboat it is not a new boat but a completely renewed one. The reference to new covenant likewise is best rendered renewed by the death and resurrection of Messiah. I look forward to fishing alongside you for those who will inherit salvation, first to the Jew and then to the Gentile.

I very much appreciate your timely message regarding "new" vs "renewal." I know it's not just coincidence that I'm reading a book about the "renewal of all things.". I believe I'm just beginning to understand the reality that no eye has seen or ear has heard what God has prepared for those who love him."
G'day from Western Australia I very much enjoyed that build. You weren't just transforming a boat, you were also transforming a relationship of father and son. There are so many lessons your son will take through life from that time spent together, both physically and Spiritually. God takes the ordinary and turns it into the extraordinary and there is a powerful message to be shared in this journey of transformation. God bless you Pastor Dags

Thanks for sharing brother. So glad you have those memories. I too remember the last time I went fishing with Dad. The cancer was already effecting his legs, but he said he would sit in the canoe. All I wanted was for him to catch a nice one. Sure enough, he got the nicest catch of the evening. I wish I could take him on his remodeled boat. But I will enjoy every chance I get to take my sons.
