We've got the debug and proto ROMS (and the original code) from D/P/Pt's development now. Turns out this song is called "SEQ_DUMMY" and sounded VERY different played in the game's first builds.

Ah-HA! So younger me WASN’T losing his mind! I thought there was an alternate tune that played when out of bounds, but nobody would believe me...

I nearly got my save file corrupt twice while getting Darkrai. Right before the part with the Battle Tower, I passed 174 steps and had to reset. After that. I forgot to step once south to save and reset, and instead I went north. Thankfully I just soft reseted until I got it right.

It just sounds...off. Such cheerful music playing somewhere you were never supposed to go. Really gives you the chills.

It's not an inherently scary song but this always scared the shit out of me. I remember tweaking for the first time in Jublife years ago to get to Darkrai's island and walking through the endless void of the Mystery Zone. It would be cool if they actually addressed it as some nightmarish alternate dimension in the canon, seeing as the Distortion World and Ultra Space already exist.

Maybe an apocalyptic world if you screw up and fail to stop the villainous team in time. My original idea for a fan game project was to have a unique endgame for the "bad ending" where choosing to go through with it and becoming a destructive pokemon by rejoining with the little girl's other half (who would have been the main antagonist of the game) would cause you to go berserk, destroying the world and getting cursed by Arceus. The endgame would involve you taking down the legendary pokemon and basically tying up loose ends in the wastelands where pokemon are much more aggressive, safe places are far between and few places are habitable as the nature has met its end everywhere else.

Imagine if they remade Sinnoh and made mystery zone an area you would need to accsess during the main story. Or maybe a side quest or a secret area. Not by tweaking of course. Some other method.

The first time I cheat my way into the mystery zone I nearly shat my pants hearing this shit lol. Something a bit eerie about it. Then a day later I caught a trainer pokemon and it was named Bad Egg and I could barely sleep that night

I love seeing the unused things in pokemon diamond- like fake sinnoh by using the tweaking glitch. This should be the official theme of the dark void.

Riley Aaron You know, fake SInnoh is just the map looping on itself, right? If you go to the top of the sinnoh map, you wind up looping to the bottom but with some errors

hm i actually didn't know that- but one video i watched showed person doing something in "fake sinnoh" that made the game display beta trees and rocks, most likely the ones used in RSE, which i why i do like referring to it as fake sinnoh

Brings back my days of tweaking for shaymin and darkrai.But at the same time it brings back the memory of when I was stuck in the pokemon center mystery zone, my person was invisible, there were no npcs and I couldnt move

Kind of funny that a different theme plays if you hack into Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. Not that I'd know. I never used an Action Replay, or managed to hack or cheat in any way, shape or form. Also funnier is that the theme doesn't sound glitched, but more like an earlier version. I like the more dominant, obvious use of instruments. Gives it more personality.

I remember listening to this at the age of 9 every time I ran through walls and over oceans. I accidentally hacked it on my R4 card and caught every legendary as well and 5 shiny arceus's and had 999 of every item. I also caught Cynthias garchomp.

Everyone talks about tweaking and this being the theme of tweaking, but where are my fellow "Surfing on the E4 door" peeps? I remember when the glitch was first found and myself and a big group of others dedicated ourselves to exploring the abyss and trying to find a way to Arceus.

I used to use the action replay to go outside of the map border (walk through walls code) just to listen to this theme.

0:10 The major difference is right here. The usual 2nd part is put earlier into the song instead of the final, which puts it after the first.

Glad to know I wasnt the only kid terrified by this. The music was just off, and empty, unfinished. Familiar yet unsettlingly not. It was way too cheery for the endless void. But thats what made it so creepy and memorable. The backrooms of pokemon.

It was unfinished because it pulled it from a beta track of the route.

I remember using the Replay for the first time. I heard this and was a bit unnerved, as if it was an alternate dimension or something. Now I love the song obviously, just my young mind scaring itself.

My favorite Pokemon game was Diamond.

Action Replay, all the way.

I know this is an early version of this theme, but the different click clack and crank noises throughout the song really sell the game being like "uhhh, something's definitely not right here"

Never heard this theme before, because I'm a good boy Nintendo.

Imagine if there is a secret battle in pokemon platinum where you fight giygas from earthbound and if you lose to him instead of going to a pokemon center you go to mystery zone and your pokemon are no more

BEST THEME EVER (bit scary lol)

There should’ve been an episode of the Diamond and Pearl anime where Jessie and James impersonate black market dealers and sell Ash a parody of the Action Replay. They promise it’ll let him walk through walls, and he ends up getting lost in the Mystery Zone without access to his Pokemon or his stuff.
