Route 66 Motorcycle Adventure | "Route 66 Legacy" Documentary

#Route66 #AngelDelgadillo #Seligman
Last year, we traveled across the entire Route 66 on motorcycles, and now we are revisiting towns across Route 66 to learn about their deep history by hearing stories from generations who have been there since the beginning, starting with Seligman, Arizona.
In this episode, we ride our Harley Davidsons from home base in Los Angeles to Seligman, Arizona to visit the world famous Delgadillo's Route 66 Gift Shop and speak with Mirna and Clarissa Delgadillo, the daughters of Angel Delgadillo.

About Angel Delgadillo
Angel Delgadillo is a business owner in Seligman, Arizona who has been dubbed the "guardian angel" of U.S. Route 66. He is the main founder of the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona, established in 1987 to campaign for "Historic Route 66" signage on the former US highway; similar initiatives have since been established in every U.S. Route 66 state.
He was born on April 19, 1927, along U.S. Route 66 in Seligman, Arizona. He witnessed the exodus of Okies due to the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, the movement of men and materials during World War II, and the rise and fall of the road. In 1947, he graduated from Seligman High School. As an adult, he ran a barbershop in town (founded May 22, 1950) and opened a souvenir shop inside his business, along the historic road.
After the decline and eventual delisting of the route from the United States Highway System in 1985, he went on to found the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. Eventually, route 66 associations were founded in all eight US 66 states with a similar goal: preserving the once-important road.
While researching the history of Route 66 for the 2006 Pixar motion picture Cars, John Lasseter met Delgadillo, who told him how traffic through the town virtually disappeared on the day that nearby Interstate 40 opened. In the film, Sally Carrera (an animated gynomorphic Porsche 996 motorcar) serves as a vehicle to deliver that message in a 3½ minute flashback in which the town and the US Highway vanish literally from the map. It has been said that Delgadillo helped to inspire the movie through his passion for the road.
Over the years, he has become an attraction along the road with people stopping to talk to him and coming from all over the world just to meet him. When the Associated Press was interviewing him, he met with tourists from Europe and Asia.
HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE OF US ROUTE 66
US Highway 66, popularly known as “Route 66,” is significant as the nation’s first all-weather highway linking Chicago to Los Angeles.
Route 66 reduced the distance between Chicago and Los Angeles by more than 200 miles, which made Route 66 popular among thousands of motorists who drove west in subsequent decades. Like other highways of its day, Route 66 reflects the origin and evolution of road transportation in the United States. Not only does Route 66 underscore the importance of the automobile as a technological achievement, but, perhaps equally important to the American psyche, it symbolized unprecedented freedom and mobility for every citizen who could afford to own and operate a car. In response the federal government pledged to link small town USA with all of the metropolitan capitals.
The period of historical significance for Route 66 is 1926 to 1985. The national system of public highways brought geographic cohesion and economic prosperity to the disparate regions of the country.

Hi 2 lane and josh..! I’m 43 years young from Portsmouth England,I’ve finally plucked up the courage to buy a my first Harley and get myself “Down The Road”..! Without watching you guys getting out there and putting such good content on KZread showing the great history your amazing country has to offer I think it would still be a bit of a pipe dream to actually get off my backside and out there and start to see what my own country has to offer..I 👍🏻

Wow...incredible!! That's what we like to hear! That inspires us to keep doing what we do, and is the reason we started this whole thing in the first place. There's so much out there on the open road, and it's best seen on two wheels. It's an experience that can be hard to explain without experiencing it for yourself. We're excited to hear that, and wish you some great travels ahead Ride safe, and thanks for the support 👍🦅

Hey guys, I'm a 68 year old retired longhaul Trucker of almost 50 years of living on the road in the cab of an eighteen wheeler, over twenty of which was running team with my wife. We traveled a lot of "backroads" during this time in our lives and was always amazed by our beautiful country and had met lots of good people along the way. You guys really trip my memories of traveling through 48 states and a lot of Canada. I thank you for your wonderful videos of your travels and of the fine Americans that you meet along the way. Many safe miles to Y'all and hopefully, see you down the road.

Thanks for watching, Sangjoon!! It is pretty crazy to think about the history behind it, and how the closure of a major US route effected towns like this all over the country. I really love your content, I'm always up to date with it, makes me travel without leaving home, and inspire few of my own moto trips down here in my 2014 Fat Boy... My dream is to have this trip on the Historic Route 66, all the way down to LA. Pretty soon I'll be there and I'm already saving the tips for it!!! Thanks a lot and wish long live to you all and the channel, guys!

Haven't watched this video yet but I will soon as I watch videos & given that I'm a truck driver. I am mostly looking for a preview of the road and of the places to eat your videos come across very nice some of the others seem to want to concentrate on the rider & that is not what I'm looking for in a video. The last week of April I'll be taking vacation I plan to leave from Kansas City and go to Lyman Colorado and the next day go to Moab for 2 days then the Grand Canyon East then to Kingman for one night and to Vegas for two nights then ending my ride at Santa Monica Pier for one night.

Did some off-roading, checked out Arches National Park, and all that good stuff. Hopefully you find some of it useful👍

Oh I was just saying this because if you ever want to cross paths I don't know where you guys are in LA but I plan to store my bike in LA fly back to Kansas City where I work out of and fly back periodically for the next leg of my journey would be to ride up the coast ultimately seeing the redwood Forest and at some point come back through Colorado I want to get to Colorado Springs for Cliff dwellings and I want to see Santa Fe New Mexico so any pointers you have you seem to have excellent taste in the places you eat and stay
