A great place to live! Lived in South wirral all my 45 years my mates call it "gods best kept secret" Eastham village is beautiful in the summer 😉👍

Used to go thru there on Crosville single decker C7 through Hooton passing the old aerodrome and Rivacre swimming baths...
What on earth had happened to the wirral since then? Parts of it are still nice but the whole area looked lovely back then

Woodchurch and Ford, to name just two.
The park was the model for Central Park in New York.

Yes but its so easy to look back at the past through " rose tinted spectacle's " I am very interested in ships and hanker after Lpool and Bhead when they were full of ships. But I would be viewing them from a bicycle, not a car and I would be going home to an outside toilet and tin bath with perhaps only a radiogram for entertainment. On balance perhaps life was not as charming !!
My uncle was an apprentice at Grayson Rollo beside the landing stage, during the war until he was called up in 1943. He was recruited into the RE, Port Reconstruction Battalion. Served until 1947 with his last deployment at Nagasaki.
I live on the Wirral and it certainly doesn't look like this anymore!

The Wirral looks absolutely delightful. I'm quite tempted by that little Woodchurch village next to Upton.

Thing is, the Woodchurch Estate won prizes when it was built. The houses are fine. The inhabitants are not.
I like that a lot. Very good clear footage. Would love to see more like that of the Wirral and surrounding area.
wow so quiet , noticed the house in upton looks like grafton drive and the car was driving along noctorum road and ford hill hill!!
Narration by Mr Chumley Warner.
Alot of these "new" houses still look the same today

Progress ? Birkenhead? Meh. The place was more modernised, civilised and more pleasant in 1934. Well done Wirral Council & owned affluent businesses for literally doing f-all in 90 years.
Outstanding... Could almost feel I was their ... it's a sobering thought that the world now in 2016 is populated by a completely different human race...whilst almost everyone in this video of busy Liverpool area 1930s is no longer with us.. A true look in time
why am i reminded of when rodney makes a film at the art college and del has sold advetising to all the local businesses so the story gets lost amoungst the continuous mentions of local firms
That Co-Op on Mount Road only changed to a different shop a few years back!
What a fantastic video 👍👍

Ridden past those houses in Burton
More modern videos on the Wirral channel
Sounded like they were about to mention the Co-op funeral service. Cut scene?
As a softie southern - it's good to know Chumley Warner was as real as I expected and this documentary of modern northern life has solidified my prejudice and characterture of 'The North' as a living museum ... A wonderful time capsule of life before that hateful hun Hitler had his evil way - life was so positive and progressive... Even in the north! This was early industrial-scale property marketing at it's pre-war finest.
is there any footage or maybe more photos of woodside dock i want to see how the whole thing looked like before it got all ripped out

the Wirral is a beautiful place spoilt by a small percentage of human pond life just like every other area in UK nowadays.. its pretty sad to see the amount of homeless in the once thriving shopping center. that's what 40 years of neo liberalism has done.
