I had 2 females, casual pedigrees and they were the easiest going family dogs whilst being a fearless farm guardian alert All at the same time - one passed due to injuries protecting the ones it loved the most, and the other lived to be 12 healthy years 😄 cant wait to find My next pup when free from My tumor 🤩 @flashfronk were any of yours the older gen German gladiator build? As mine has been the leaner lines prior but I was curious if their energy level is noticeable lower, as im looking for a house guard dog/protection dog more than a Lean roam a farm land, where the extra agility n energy came to extra use 😄 anyways lovely to see another rottweiler enthusiast!

I just rescued an 11 month old rottie and at first she was so timid I was almost worried about owning her, but since she's opened up around me and really shown me who she is I have fallen head over heals in love with her. It's only been 3 weeks and she's following her commands to a T better than most German shepherds I've owned in the past. Can say without a doubt I'm falling in love with rotties

@@versa0 I take ours to work with me most days and she knows her place ( delivery driver for a timber yard) so she's always out but my family have them also as house pets n my god with plenty of walking n mental exercise they are the best you will get

I love rotties, have one for about 3 years! My demon Zeus haha.. That guy is protective so much. But every member in the family has a role in his life. With dad he's serious, my girlfriend is for cuddling, my mom (well mom is a mom long story short, he loves her so much mostly because of food haha), oh & there is me.. When he's around me all hell breaks loose.. He wants to play but not gentle playing, more like sprinting & hitting you, pushing. Nothing dangerous, he likes to play that way, it makes him tired faster. But when it's time for protecting, man that boy is awesome. He was trained for protection, so it's a bit easier to work with him when he obeys. But at the end of a day I really love that big boy! Sorry for my englis & much love from Croatia! I’ve grown up on golden retrievers,cocker spaniels, and smaller dogs. I saw a video a year or so ago like a video like this and fell in love. With proper love and training(like any other dog) they just seem like giant silly lap dogs that will kick some ass if their pack are threatened

My Rottweilers are cuddling with me as i type this will i gotta say on both why you should and shouldn't get a Rottweiler you where 100% on point

Rottweilers are great swimmers. Many of them like to sing too.

I feel like learning to train your Rottweiler helps build character you learn to develop patience and build self progression

Watch a 61 year old man cry... or better, yet, don't. I'll just tell you about myself in a minute. First, my in-laws had 4 female Rottweilers over the years, and I came to love them all, being that we visited them frequently. Unfortunately, they all died of one form of cancer or another, at relatively young ages. Absolutely heartbreaking! Spaying them at an early age (6 to 8 months or so, as recommended by vets then) may be a reason why they all died prematurely. These days, most vets recommend you wait until at least after their 'first heat', and at least 12 months, before spaying a Rottie. Apparently, there has been research that indicates that there is less of a chance for cancer if you wait as described. Anyway, long story short, we love Rottweilers to the point where we got one ourselves last year. We found an 8 week old female puppy, and she has been the focus of our life for the last year or so. I'm crying after watching this video because there have been many instances where I realized that owning this magnificent breed requires A LOT of your time, attention, effort, love, etc., and I have often lamented to my wife that "I have no more freedom." Even though I thought this at times, no worries, as we have more than been there for her, and we love and pamper her, but there have been times when I questioned our choice. But looking back at the last year, it has all been worth it and more! My family is so head over heels in love with this affectionate, loving beauty, that I regret and feel guilty about any doubts I may have had, or things I may have said out loud about 'Ophelia' being "a mistake to adopt." Frankly, I feel guilty for those moments of doubt, as I know I can't live without her at this point! This gorgeous, regal companion has given us so much love and friendship to last several lifetimes, and I can now say that this has been one of the best years of my life! I am honored and happy to have my sweet baby girl under the same roof as us, and mostly by my side! I need more Kleenex now...

@@TheNaughtyPetey they do great together!! Most rotts I've known do extremely well with children very patient dogs. We're still training the puppy nipping out of her though. That's the hardest part is they grow so quickly and get strong fast so even playful nipping can hurt a young child. Luckily it's a pretty easy fix

They are giant lap dogs , loving, loyal,a little sily, and so so smart. Best dogs ever.

I’m on my 3 Ed rottweiler and I have got to say he is awesome I sent him to k9 training at 3 months old and am amazed at how he does listen to his commands he is now 6 months and took 3 Ed place in photo contest with the flea an heart guard photo contest im so proud of him his coat is so shiny i get compliments for that wish i could show u his picture

My twenty one week old female Rottweiler is over 50 pounds so far and is a absolute beauty. I love her like she's my forth child , considering she's act s like a baby yet grown up at the same time. She truly is the best dog I could've asked for.

@@charltonmoore452 wow thats amazing 107 lbs at a year. Ive never had one before so im new to how big she keeps getting now shes near or is 70 pounds. Its been a couple weeks since the vet and my scale depending on where i put it gives me a different number. Very cool though and wish you and youre beautiful rottie well! One more thing im nervous about her going into heat. Alsoreally am at a loss on if i should get her fixed or not or even when since so many place say something different.

@@arnettthayer5314 I have had Large breeds my whole life but this is my first female and they say, that it could be as long as 18 months before a heat cycle(mine has not went into heat yet). I am going to fix her but not until 2. I understand that with large and giant breed dogs, it is important to give them time for their bone density to be developed. Research, research, research! This could be subjective, but I have read this from many large and giant breed, experts.

@@charltonmoore452 Ok thank god i appreciate you telling me two years because I've had people trying to say earlier. i feel a weight lifted off my shoulders and the vet we go to, (no offence to them) convince my wife of a bunch of nonsense compared to anything I've read. I'm not saying its malicious but its a pain.

Appreciate this video! Thank you for doing a video on both Why You Should and Shouldn't get a Rottweiler. As I love and have this breed, Rotties aren't for everyone which doesn't mean they should be automatically considered dangerous or vicious. Understanding the breed and the dedication you are willing to take for Rotties will be so rewarding as it has been for me. And, also in turn, you have to be willing to have their back due to breed stereotyping. Thank you for sharing!

I have an english bulldog and got him for the watchdog and companionship aspects of the breed. He follows me everywhere, sits w my daughter if I need to go out (protects her and the house incredibly well) and is an absolute cuddle monster at night. I can't imagine our life wo him. He's my first dog and I was always proud of the fact that I did well establishing myself as pack leader. The vet tried to warn us that they aren't the right breed for everyone but I knew it would work. He kind of sheds a lot too which always surprised me and now he's starting to have some health issues (at 6 years old😭) And I can't really take him off roading on the beach for very long bc of the heat. He's just becoming a bit...precious🤗 lol. One of my besties growing up had a rotti named Maggie and I just loved her! I have really been thinking about Rottweilers more and more and yt suggested I watch your videos. Sounds like it's important to find the right bloodline though. Gotta start doing my homework. thank you for this video. I'm a 75 yr old woman with a 9 month old Rottweiler. She pulls on the leash and I'm no longer strong enough so now want to use an e-collar. We play ball games and training games to keep her brain and body active. Love this breed.

I just rescued a seven year old Rottweiler. I trust him more with my daughter than I do most people.

This may be a long comment but please hear me out. I have bought my first and only Rottie in 1994. It was an adventure worth another story. But here comes how the story unfolds. HE grew to be a spectacular adult. Shoulder height of 68 cm, body weight of 60 kg having a chest as broad as a man, waist as tiny so I could almost grab with my hands, thighs bulging as a body builder, neck so strong that I could sit on his head. Protecting his domain he has known no mercy. We found bloody torn apart pieces of dogs that have ventured into our yard. Yet he was a pet, going to every family member looking for a hug. As our friends visited us we introduced them to him and from that time on they were free to enter and come into our house. When we had a garden party and friends came along HE was the star of the show. Went to all of them and just put a palm on their legs to have a bit of love. When we went out for a walk in the streets I could just order him to take place in a corner and when I came back an hour later he was still there, no drama, just looking around, observing the world. He was otherwise a fierce dog. When I asked the pit bull breeder down the street whether he'd let one of his dogs 'play' with mine, he said NO, that dog is too serious. In an other case we walked by the river and a girl swimming pretended that she would drawn and HE started making noises as he would care for a puppy and started pulling towards the river. HE wanted to save the girl! It took me quite a bit of time to convince him that everything is OK. His name was Arthur. Named after the knight king that HE was. He died in my arms following a surgery and a serious infection of his wounds. My stepfather had cried like a baby. He said that he did not cry when his brother died but so he did when Arthur was gone. Arthur has left an impact on everyone. He tought me what is family, absolute devotion, how one should stand up for his own. I have not had a dog since. I am afraid that anything would be a disappointment.

Another bit of how intelligent ROTTWEILERs are. My girlfriend from Sweden travelled to us the first time, her name is Moa. She was a karateka, practiced martial arts (she did not know that I have trained Jeet kune do). I said that we should train together and set off for the terrace. We had a sort of semi contact fight. All of a sudden Arthur stepped in and grabbed Moa's wrist very gently and pulled her away from me. He knew that she was important for me and he shouldn't hurt her but at the same time he wanted to protect me. Some days later Moa said that she'd go for a walk with Arthur and left. Half an hour, I started looking. One hour and I started to worry. My little brother rode off on a bike to find them. Quite some time later they all returned and Moa just said that they were having so much fun together. WTF?! A rottweiler she just met and they became best friends? No! Arthur knew that she was my human partner and guided her, protected her, loved her. No questions asked, no conditions, no looks, no debates. Just so. My best friend and a great teacher. R.I.P. I'm all misty-eyed reading about Arthur. My family has had a few Rottweilers over the decades, and they totally steal your heart. Sure they are a huge (literally) responsibility, and require much attention (including backyard cleanups), but the loyalty and love they give is immeasurable! Our current girl (who is now 15 months old) sleeps with us and we adore her snoring! And of course, when they lean on you, and sit on you, that is priceless (and a bit painful at times, LOL)!

The apartment point to really spot-on I raised an adult male in a tiny NYC apartment with little issues.

my rott is like "its hot dude YOU get it" it really bugged me when i first threw his toy and he instinctively wanted to run for it and was like "na"

I'm interested in getting a Rottie as a search and rescue canine, and pet. Texas law prohibits discrimination against search dogs, and guarantees them access everywhere. But I have been relentlessly discouraged from going through with it because of perceived problems with the breed from other experienced handlers, and recommended strongly to choose other more common breeds. I do recognize that it could be intimidating for a missing person to see or hear a Rottie rooting around in the woods, which could drive that person further into hiding. But if it finds the person anyway, and it is well socialized, then "So be it," say I.

I just own my first one for 4 months now. She is now 7 month old. She is super smart. Loves the kids and she sure love to cuddles with the family.

Rottweilers are my favorite breed and they're just gorgeous. Our first family dog was a rottie/boxer mix, he was a great, cuddly couch potato like his purebred rottie dad, then there's the current family dog, he's purebred rottie and we got him at 16 months old from a couple with kids divorcing. In his case, he's lovely but not always one to listen. I have a good relationship with him and get him to do what he's supposed to most of the time, but I really wish I had him from the start

I love my Rottweiler; she is a mix with some Shepherd, but she is exactly what you are saying especially the cuddling part. She is so sweet I have to laugh when I think about her. When she barks, she even scares me, like where was that coming from, lol. We have had her 6 months making her a year old.

I am considering getting a rottweiler. I want a strong big protector dog that can protect me, but at the same time is a loving family pet as I am planning on getting children in the future. I hadn't really thought about getting a rottweiler until I dreamt about one tonight. And now after seeing this I'm definitely considering getting one. I am probably not getting one until next year as I need to properly prepare first.

5th Rottweiler for me. They are stubborn but highly intelligent. Best dogs ever! Must show them that you are the boss and not them.

@@GabbyF Have confidence. I have owned two and they are amazing. This book was suggested to me many years ago by my vet, it's a good book: Mother Knows Best: The Natural Way to Train Your Dog. Probably better to get a female as they are smaller. The video is accurate in that they are very smart. The key is training them early as a puppy. Train them one thing at a time no more than 10 min or so as like any dog, their attention fades. Teach them to sit, lay down and stay. After putting her food down, mine would not eat until I told her to. Also as he said, socialize your dog often with people and other pets. The biggest thing I learned from that book is how to correct your dog. Far too often people are scared to correct their dog. I live in a very nice neighborhood. Folks went from being scared to actually having kids knock on my door to see if she can come out and play. The entire neighborhood loved my dog. They were so impressed how well behaved she was. I never needed a leash in my front yard which was not big. She knew the limits. There's nothing more rewarding than a well behaved, trained, loyal, loving dog like a Rottie. They truly are amazing dogs. Last tip: Go to a reputable breeder. No matter what dog you get, the closer it is to pure bread, the closer it will exhibit the traits that they are known for. Lastly, a very good breeder can give you a dog that has a good temperament. If you show up to see your puppy, ask to see mom and/or dad. If either of them want's to tear your head off, RUN!

They r lovely but if u have a garden forget about the flowers, I put wire around mine , and because they r so smart they pull it up, take the flowers out of the soil and let the wire fence back to place... the flowers they r putting to my door entrance... maybe trying to tell me they help somehow...😍😉😂🤣😠

For us this is one of the best breeds we've ever owned.

The only true Allround dog in the world, so smart, and they are just like humens, just look at there face and you can see there souls

I live in Florida and my rott has plenty of shade outside but she actually chooses to lay in the sun on a hot day! kind of strange in my opinion especially because of the black coat but that's what she likes

Thank you for your channel and your knowledge!! I have also watched the should/should not videos. I am supposed to get mine in 3 weeks. He will be 8 weeks old at that time. While I don't have question that I could lead the dog, I have 4 children. One of which being 16 months old. I am concerned for this. Will the fact that the puppy is 8 weeks old help him to be more stable with the children by growing together with them? I understand proper training and socialization are the key but the stories about the family rottie killing the child have me reconsidering. I am looking for some reassurance or to be talked out of getting him. Thanks!!

I've had 5 total over the years - 2 females now. Really good advice on your channel. All of mine, except the first, have been rescues. They present different challenges, since they were all abused and/or neglected. They need a lot of TLC and understanding. Especially finding out what sets them off and dealing with that.

i have a month old puppy, should i start training him now or wait till he's a little bit older

Definitely my nr 2 choice. My first choice is the Caucasian Orcharka but since that is banned here in Denmark it will be the Rottweiler in a year or two

We're now on a waiting list for a Rottweiler bitch. Hopefully we will get her by the end of the year, but there is only one breeder in Iceland, where we live. Although I am an experienced dog owner, I'm now doing all of the research possible. Your videos have really been helpful. Takk fyrir :)

Very informative videos! I watched this and why you SHOULDN'T get a Rottweiler. I work as an animal protection officer. I picked up a rottie from a person who neglected and awful wound on its leg and unfortunately it had to have its back right leg amputated. My wife and I fostered him and fell in love and adopted after we did some research. We have been doing insane amounts of research and have "rottie" proofed our house too. We have a border collie too, so it's a fun house. Thanks for your videos! We'll definitely subscribe and follow this channel.

I have recently fostered/adopted a Rott Lab mix he is about 4 yrs old. He was abandoned downtown by his owner but been great with animals of all breeds and sizes but the one issue I am having is that he is food and toy possessive. He has not physically attacked my other dogs but he is always aware of where the food bowl is even when put away and will chase the other dogs and cat away from the area and always has it under his protection. I am afraid that this behavior could escalate if not dealt with properly and soon. Any suggestions for training?Otherwise the dog had been absolutely amazing and have noticed his strong sense of smell and will be getting him into training to see if search and rescue would be a thing for him.

What about their stubbornness?! I own 2 Rotweillers female & 7 th months old male, and they drive me crazy in the night chasing the hedgehogs coming our garden. They use it as a ball and keeping barking and desperately all us and the neighbors... What do u recommend for that?Thank you in advance!They have plenty of exercises and huge garden, huge ball playing with still they have hating cats and hedgehogs...

Hello, i have a question! i am around 4'11 and I'm searching for a protective dog that is also sort of a gentle giant since i do not feel safe living alone. i have a generalised anxiety disorder and a few other mentall illnesses like depression and panic attacks caused by a fear of people and strangers, getting attacked would that somehow affect the dog? Like i know if I'm nervous i can make the dog nervous. My therapist said to get a dog i would feel safe and a feeling of responsibility that another being is depending on me which would apparently decrease my likeness to commit suicide? with and my grandfather had a bunch of big dogs (malamutes and a cane corso, i lived with him) so i know a bit about dogs but this would be my first time personally owning my own dog and im currently trying to figure out what breed would okay and i was wondering wether or not a rottweiler would be okay. I don't want to harm the animal with my condition nor do i want to stress them. (We have a lot of forest and fields surrounding us and i got a lot of space and a big garden i also have a exercise track for a dog and enough money to get professional training) If anyone responds thank you and i apologize for my english it's not my first language.

Serious question: (thanks in advance for may insightful and respectful comments) I’m 36, and have very minimal experience living with dogs. Had a Lab briefly as a child and besides that the only “family dog” I recall is my Granny’s lifetime Lab (both are long gone now). Nobody in my family ever really owned animals at all, but not dogs and surely not Bully breeds per se. My best friend and his family did have several animals(over the years, 2 boxers (1 eas mixed with a Pit and I wasn’t that acquainted with him but his Father was awesome), A German Shepard/Chow mix, A Rottie they never let in the house (for good reasons), and that is where my animal experience came from, but it’s still minimal in terms of living with a animal.... I just started seeing a Woman Police Officer and she informs me she lives by herself with guess what? ....A Grown Rottie. She’s all of 5 ft tall and has no issue managing herself with such a larg dog (her whole family has large dogs from Rotties to Corsos). She has a realistic perspective on it in terms of it’s protective and guardian nature, and seems to be a solid trainer although I have yet to meet the Dog. I have all types of fears and nervousness regarding animals (from lack of experience mostly) but really about larger breeds (Rotties, Pitties, German Shepards, Corsos etc) and have no idea how to go about getting myself acclimated to her dog as I continue to see her. What do I do? How do I safely go about meeting this dog, in their home? Like how do I communicate with it effectively, and so on? SN: My best friend did also have a cousin wit two grown Rotties who we spent a weekend with back in HS and they were huuuuggge but sweet. Also was raised from jump by an older military couple so the training was impeccable.)

I suppose the dogs are never really the problem, the owners are ;) As for dogs, they don't like to be stared down byy stranger and you should just behave like a leader, no fear, doubt, etc. When she keeps her distance, so will the dog - he will look at her in order to judge you - if it is a good dog. It's all similar to dating, like your doubts a few months ago... Questions about said dog are a parallel. A lack of experience should not matter this much, you are better off just being relaxed ;) Dogs have a keen sense for stress/fear. Being confident is half the work in both humans and dogs. Sad to see you never got an answer - hope everything went well. I do wonder what happened. xD

That’s a beautiful mixed breed but hard to come by for sure!

Rottweilers are one of my favourite breeds, that being said before i ever get one I’d want to know everything there is to know about raising one and have enough money to pay for behaviour classes so I don’t endanger them due to poor/reckless handling.

I had a Rottweiler and German Shepherd at the same time. The Rottweiler was the best with a cat and when we brought a small guinea pig into the house he protected it from the German Shepherd who tried to kill it. If you get one as a puppy it needs plenty of socialization! You have to stay consistent with training as well as having it around different dogs of different sizes. If you don’t socialize a rottie and put it around a small dog with no prior time around a smaller dog, it could easily kill it.

Mine is on constant alert, I cannot even get up to go to the bathroom without her either popping up or walking with me, even if she is across the room sleeping. When she hears something outside she doesn't always bark but she is always scanning! The males I have been around are a little more unflappable. Mine is on the bigger side of the spectrum for a female, she is a year old, 24 inches tall and 107lbs right now. She will probably gain 7 more pounds by the time she is 2.

I've never had a rottweiler I've had plenty of dogs but the part at the end keeps coming up and worries me. The part where there are some breeds that are tainted and makes for a aggressive dog.

Well even tainted aggressive breeds can be trained to be a great dog. Watch episodes of people who aggressive dogs. The key is being calm and assertive and being consistent. If it's fear based aggression there are ways to handle that. There are ways to handle food aggression. The key to avoid aggression is prevent it from happening.

I am a 13years old kid I live in 3bhk house I am fist time dog owner means I don't have any dog So can I keep a rottweiler Because I know that how to live with guard dogs so can I live with a rottweiler I am a kid that's why I am asking ☺️

I lost mine at the age of 8 years he went white within a year, i couldn't speak for two days without welling up. gulp

Do you have any pointers as to why my rottie will nip someones butt , at most times someone he knows n will let give him lovins n than nip or try to in the butt or leg whstever, when they are leaving the home ? Everyone except me.

Belgian malinois might be better at guarding and tasks. Pit Bulls might be tougher. Mastiffs might be more imposing. But nothing looks more like a guard dog than a rottweiler. Ive studied alot of these dogs. I dont think the rottweiler is the best dog breed. I think it's the best for me. One look in his eyes tells his story. Roman dog thats gonna go to the end for their family.. They are gonna do their job. Don't test him or her, because rottweiler is the king and queen. FOREVER ROTTWEILER

As far as a mindset. No one outduels the rottweiler. You can come at me with all different angles. But his mindset is unmatched or matched aggression. You aren't gonna tell me there's a more aggressive breed. Rottweiler acts like it's the ruler of the planet. Some dog breeds replicate the rottweilers dominance. But don't think it outduels its dominance. Again I follow all these breeds. Not a pissing match. I just prefer this dog. How could you not? ROTTWEILER

The rottweiler is NOT dominant to where its a problem. Its a LEVEL HEADED dog when trained right but WILL NOT bow down to no one. I get why this is NOT the you tube makers first guard dog choice (and frankly im talking about one of his other videos) (btw this is great content) I love these videos. Finally good rottweiler content. Keep it up

If you're a lazy loaf get small dog....if you're a leader commander with heart get a Rotty.

Ummmm....have you ever had a Rotti? Yes, their coats are easy maintenance but you forgot to mention that you'll find those single coarse top coat hairs everywhere. I even had them in upper kitchen cabinets , plus they're a pain getting out of furniture, carpet, even bedsheets. It seems the hair kinda "weaves " itself into fabrics. I had Rotties for 35 years and I really hate it when you dog trainers never mention to people to "train" their kids around any dog.
