Thank you for this!!! It’s 2 yrs since you posted this and still mostly relevant. I’m using two AEOS’s and an Elinchrom Skyport with a Sony A7iii. I think I have mine setup correctly, time will tell. The Elinchrom menus have changed so I’m wondering if you can do an update on just the Elinchrom. Also, the mod power vs. regular power is still a bit confusing and I’m not totally sure how to tell the difference when they are set. Perhaps Rotolight has changed a bit as well or maybe the Aeos is enough different than Neo’s ... at any rate, thank you for these vids (the previous setup). I’ve subscribed so if/when you post an update I’ll definitely tune in. Thx!

Thanks for the video, what are the settings if you're using Godox trigger and want to do HSS 1/8000? Setting on Flash 1/50th?

Is there a more recent how to video? The menus/modes shown here don't line up with my recently purchased rotolight neo 2. The system is definitely not easy or intuitive. Way to complicated.

Awesome. A very clear to understand video. I'm surprised the light wasn't so harsh and didn't spread everywhere with no modifier or barn doors on the Neo 2. Were you shooting @ 1-10% brightness/power and ISO 100-400? I only have a SHORT sync cable and I believe it'll only work if it's mounted on the hotshoe?

For everyone who has been having problems trying to get your head(s) around this process, there are is one thing worth trying that may help. Firstly, the firmware that is being used in this video is out of date. My Neo 2 has had to go back to Rotolight twice now, and each time they have done an update. The last one was Thursday the 1st April 2021 and it was updated to V647. It will be worth checking as there have been quite a few changes. Sadly, despite there being a usb port on the Neo 2, it's not possible to update the firmware without sending the unit back to Rotolight. Secondly, a step that may help any of you if you're having problems, is to do a reset of the unit. As far as I'm aware, this doesn't restore the firmware back to the original version. All it does, so Rotolight have told me, is to clear out the settings so you can then start afresh with the pairing to the Elinchrom trigger. The way to do this is to :- a) switch off the Neo 2 b) press and hold down the left hand red button and then switch the Neo 2 on whilst still holding the left hand button down. It will then show the word 'ZERO' on the Neo 2 screen c) release the red button and then the word 'NO' will come up on screen d) turn either red button to the right and it will say 'YES', otherwise press 'NO' and nothing will change. e) whilst 'YES' is showing, press either button and the unit will clear all your last entered settings, but not (as I've been informed) the firmware. f) turn the Neo 2 off and then back on again and re-enter your settings. Hopefully that will help on sorting out some issues. Worth noting is that some settings and operations will be effected by if the Neo 2 is set in 'FINE' mode. You can access this by pressing both red buttons and scrolling through the following:- Both red buttons >> TECH >> FINE >> press right red button and toggle between 'ON' and 'OFF'. This does have an effect on whether some functions are enabled so worth experimenting with. One major advantage when 'FINE' is on is that when using the NEO 2 as a modelling light, going from brightness of '0' upwards is very gentle. When 'FINE' is off, the light goes from off to really bright which is useless when using it as a gentle fill in light. Sorry about the length of this post, but also the Elinchrom screen layout is also different after the latest Elinchrom firmware update which is V1.5 (?) in the video but is now V3.2. Hope this is of help. ps, I've no connection to Elinchrom or Rotolight.

How do you get your canon 5d mk iv flash settings off of ettl mode. I assume you are shooting on manual mode in the flash settings??

I'm still having issues with my neo 2. I follow setup but as I take shots and flash fires, each time it changes flash power, going from 1/4, 1/2, x8 x16 and then goes into 'Demo'mode and just sits there, unable to continue firing. ?? I'm at my witts end as rotolight have not responded to my email. It's getting frustrating.

I've noticed that when you shoot at a high frame rate with the PC sync cable...it fires at a much higher rate then it does if you use the HS Skyport. And this is something I'm experiencing as well using my Panasonic GH-5 with the Skyport and Neo 2 light. So I'm assuming that is one of the downsides of using the Skyport if you want to shoot at the highest frame rate possible for your camera? Drew

It funny how you have to turn the lights in the room out so you can see shooting effects during picture taking session. I guess with ambient lighting on one can see that these neo 2 flashes cannot over power indoor room lighting to much of a high degree.

hi, thank you for your videos for introducing rotolight neo2. just I need to know: 1. since it is coming with small soft box and barndoors only how is possible to control light (for continuse and flash as well) for different scenarios (not only headshot or portrait)? for example snoot for making spot light or vertical soft box for full body fashion photography or large soft box for architectural or landscape photography, etc... 2. since it is not very powerful light, is it providing enough light for shooting in sunny day (Like speed light)? please advice. thank you

mrz 1342 Hi there, the neo is not meant for over powering the sun. For that you will need the Aeos or Anovo. In sunny London I found that at best (on AA batteries) it makes a great fill light and catch light. With the barn doors you can narrow the light but it's no snoot.

Can I use neo2 with a diffusion box ?

3:36 It doesn't look like the camera synced at 1/1000 basing on the display on the camera monitor.

It's terrible at the high speeds...not nearly enough light while shooting at 1/1000...so bummed on this purchase. Now I have an expensive video light.

Correct it is very misleading to call this light a flash. The peak output is not fast enough for a high sync flash. Simply this is not a flash.

Same, I think those promo movies are just lies, ended up with bad product which doesn't match what they advertise

there is no selection for sync on it and how the heck do we get out of group mode? speed setting yes.... the one below it does not even show up.

peak output for flash is 4100 not 4700/4800, it matters not just for colour balance but usable output... worth correcting..

You're correct there Jamie! When you scroll through the colour temperature settings a little red dot will appear at the bottom right, on the Neo 2 screen. That little red light, when showing, means you are at the optimal light output. So, on my Neo at 4100 there is no red light, at 4110 there is the red light, and at 4120 there is no red light. Hope this is of help to others.

The second highlighted arrow was your second curtain sync.

I am amaized how much some people know about photography and flashes and they still review them.

Hello guys, I bought this light after seeing some promo videos. But I find it really weak, or maybe I'm doing STH wrong? For example I'm trying to shoot a picture in my kitchen during a day f 2.8 shutter 100 and rotolight maximum power and set to 1/50s. So I try to take a pictur of my cat in the kitchen, I'm shooting from approx 2 meters, on camera connected via pc cable and there is almost no effect, I mean picture is totally underexposed I think it would be much better even with built in flash from any camera. I'm using Sony A7iii. What am I doing wrong? Are my batteries too weak?

Hi Dale, It is a good tutorial but What about the Nikon shooters with Elinchrom HS system? In this video, you are using Canon camera. Kindly reply.

Hi Syed, thank you. Nothing should change. You just need the Elinchrom HS Skyport transmitter for Nikon cameras. Thanks for your comment & question! - D

I will try your procedure tomorrow. Yesterday evening I went to Vistek Mississauga to inquire about you, but unfortunately, no one knows you strange for me. so lost with this set up, so many more questions not answered

Need to slow down the demonstration in order to catch everything hate to keep repeating it so I make sure I have everything take your time fast is always slow and slow is always fast

That Skyport interface needs work.
