Been using a Rossi 20" Stainless 44 mag for many years. Superb accurate rifle. I use it for Whitetails, bears, and Mulies. My favorite rifle. Most of us, take a dowel and some sandpaper to smooth out the sidegate entrance. Nicks your fingernails.

I owned a Rossi Puma model .357 rifle for many years. Back then they still put the saddle ring on them. I liked the .357 so much I bought a .44 magnum just like it. I worked up the best loads I could for it and began to use it. The first thing I discovered was the exterior of the rifle was exactly the same size as the .357 thus the barrel was much thinner. At the range after shooting only a few rounds the barrel would become hot enough the placement pattern would scatter. Next I discovered I could not reach the velocities with the .44 as I could with the .357 causing the .44 to be a pumpkin thrower kind of like the 45-70. Lots of arch to a shot of any distance. I don't like that so I sold the rifle to a dude wrangler that used it for a camp rifle to protect against bear. Over the years I wore the .357 Puma out I shot it so many times.

A 44 mag is a thumper. And the 44 mag pistol is a ""HANDFULL""...!!! It's recoil in a rifle is "Curt = sudden=snappy. There are things that cannot and I repeat , cannot be taught. Such as recoil flinch. The 44 kicks sharp and fast. Most everyone even experienced shooters are not used to the recoil speed of a 44 mag rifle. I have the 1894 marlin cowboy with octagon barrel. I also have the Rossi r92 in 16 inch stainless 44 mag as well. I much prefer the Rossi. Why ?? The 16 inch version is so small and light. It feels like you are carrying a "toy"" gun. It is my mountain gun , hiking gun ,truck gun, go anywhere gun. I'm so much more accurate with a rifle ,and that little Rossi is a lil monster. If you ever see a 16 inch stainless version and hold it. ""I'd bet big money you'd buy it. As soon as the gun dealer said ah common just hold it""". I was sold as soon as I held it. I wasn't even looking for another 44. Or to buy anything. But as soon as I held it a smile and laughter broke out. It felt like a toy gun. My days of hunting and climbing mountains is almost over. Getting old fast. I know nothing on earth can survive a 44 mag. So when in the woods or mountains carrying my toy rifle around , I'm more than safe. I've held the 20 inch Rossi it's nowhere near as light as the 16. I'll keep mine till they shovel dirt in my face. Peace.

P.s. You ever seen a Bigfoot?? I have. Twice. Both times We should of died . They ain't friendly . Where I live we have them up on the mountain. They call them "Boogers" and Mountain devils." scary things. They don't look nothing like t.v. or the internet. Peace.

i like the Rossi much better than the Henry.......its just accurate, an much lighter, an can be super slicked up..... with the Henry it feels like your carrying around a boat anchor....for hunting ill definitely take the Rossi.....inside of 125 yrds, nothing stands a chance with the 44 Rossi...

I live in a state that does not restrict MSRs but still bought the 92 in 44mag because it is fun to shoot and a decent hunting rifle. I paid 609$ at Sportsmans Warehouse within the last month. Nice video.

609 is a good price from what I have been seeing. I like mine a lot! I just need to get more trigger time with it.

I've got the .357Magnum and .44Magnum versions of the Rossi 92. My .44 has the octagonal 24" barrel. The .44 is also a better made gun than my older .357, which was made in the early 90s at the old factory in Sao Leopoldo. That .357 took some time to slick up, but I wouldn't part with it for nothing. The newer Rossi 92s like my .44 are made at Montenegro at the Taurus factory, using newer and upgraded CNC and milling machines. They're dandy, fun guns to shoot. Brazil has cowboys too, so the Rossi brand fits right in to our western culture.

I have a 45 Colt version - just got it = getting back into CAS - I used to have a Marlin 94 Cowboy and it was fast. Those are hard to find now and $$$ - twice as much as these Rossi's. But like you, I'm just looking for fun. I replaced the safety toggle with a plug and the plastic follower with a stainless one. That leather wrap on the lever will rust your lever... you might want to remove, place a plastic "barrier" with oil under it and then put the leather wrap over it if that makes sense. That should prevent the rusting. The 44 Special there will be going about 900 fps out of your Rossi - the 44 mags - 1450 or so. Usually about 20% over stated revolver velocities.

Prices have gone up because renewed interest in lever guns ,, think Yellowstone , and all the other "western" shows that have become popular again ... hopefully, it'll pass in time and prices will come back to a more normal level ,,,,, that's my own personal theory on it ...

Prices have gone up in recent years more so because a bunch of states have went to straight wall cartridges rifle versus just shotguns for medium to large game. Which put an increase in rifle sales. Hence why 450 bushmaster, 350 legend, 400 legend, and 360 rem buckhammer also exist.

Just got mine this week, R92 .38/.38+P/.357mag. My next step is to slick it up a bit, and start saving for the .44 LC

Got a 24" R92SS, octagonal barrel 357/38 a little over a month ago, and it's amazing accurate and gorgeous and no issues whatsoever.talking about fun rifle to soot. The quality and functionality is up there, probably very close Henry or Winchester. take the dark glasses off and the grouping will be more accurate. those sights are already hard to see.

Glasses arent all that dark and I have some light sensitivity ever since I was deployed to the Middle East. So I wear sunglasses almost all the time when outdoors.

I have the m92 in 44. Same thing but without the dumb safety. I slicked mine up and changed the springs. It’s crazy nice. The only thing it doesn’t like is the aluminum cased stuff. It leaves a mess in my action. I’m getting a 44 reloading kit just so I can actually shoot it more. I got a sbh for Christmas last year in the same cartridge. For an early graduation present I got my son a tisas 1911 and he loves it. Never had problem yet

Cool video thanks for sharing. I'm thinking about getting an R92 in .357 as a "homestead defense" rifle. There is a book I ordered by Grant Cunningham called Protecting Your Homestead: Using a rifle to defend life on your property. In it he supposedly recommends a pistol caliber lever gun for homestead defense. I'm looking forward to reading that book when it arrives. I've had four events with criminals on my farm since I purchased it in 2012. I carry a .38 snubby and reload for it, so it would be nice to have the capability to plink with the .38 special. I don't like the AK or AR platforms. or even semi-auto pistols. I'm more drawn to old school weapons. Anyway, thanks for sharing a look at the 20 inch barrel in .44

That is a great price.

I picked up a stainless r92 44 mag last winter. I did a safety delete on it because it already has a half cock safety. I also put a marbles bullseye sight on it. Makes it a whole lot easier to shoot than the Buckhorns. Great Lil light weight deer rifles.

Big mistake that safety is perfect for deer hunting completely no noise whatsoever when moving the lever from safe to fire, I only got twelve deer so far, I'm sure they didn't hear when I took it of safe, the half cock is a joke, for hunting anyway.

Replace the buckhorn with bullseye rear sight. Get them at Midway or Brownells for about $20. Have them on all my levers.

Do you have to get a new front sight? I just put a marbles bullseye sight on my 16 inch Rossi 44 mag but haven't shot it yet.

I have this gun in 357 mag stainless. would like to get the 44 mag.

My main criticism of the R92 is that there is no immediate way to attach a sling. Drilling a sling swivel into the butt is easy enough, but the front barrel band with the mount has to be ordered from Rossi separate, and (right now) is only available in black. And I don't know if you can do that with the 24 inch version, as they use a different style of forestock.

Im not sure about the 24" guns. I know the triple black has a sling stud. The RPP handguards can take sling mounts. I dont know if the RPP handguards work with a 24" gun.

Why people going back to fudd guns when they're all into tacticals?I'm always been into fudd,never left it.

Picked up A Rossi. 92. In 357/38. For 720 Looking at a 92. In. 44 mag. Probably around the same price But worth it

the rossi r92 44 magnum takes a .432 diameter bullet as the barrel is .4315. regular pistol ammo does not engage the rifling. check SAAMI standards.

Henry REFUSED to tell me what their barrel/chamber dimensions are. buy at your own risk. check out hickock 45 where marlin stuck him with on of these guns that require special bullets. its on the SAAMI standards for .44 magnum rifles. pistols are smaller and what ammo it made for. why they do this no one will say.

It's called Practice! also known as trigger time, best of all it's fun!!

I believe the test guns on that ammo is 6”-7” barrel,you can just about double that velocity out of a rifle! 🤯🤯🤯

I had to change the sights. It shot 10 inches high at all ranges no matter how I set the sight.

I thought you shot okay, what with just doing it offhand. I just got a R92 Triple Black .357 and like it very much. Now I want a .44 as well, although I might prefer a Henry Big Boy X just for varieties' sake.

After shooting a Herny X I like the R92 better. The only thing I like about the Henry over the Rossi is the threaded barrel.

You get it cheap, here in Finland these are above 1k €.

1873 is faster and smoother, but the 1894 is not faster or smoother. Lot more to move when the guts/action come out of the bottom of the 94 which was made for longer cartridges. Did enjoy your video on the 92, thank you.

Not a bad review, but dude, put a blanket down or get some bedliner in that truck. Listening to the wood and metal of the gun scraping around on the metal tailgate while you are loading it and messing with it, makes my skin crawl. lol

No Henry's in stock in my location. The only ones you can find shops are asking almost double MSPR. Also Rossi is really close to the quality of Henry as well. Lastly I contacted Henry about special ordering one for my channel and Im waiting to hear back.

Mine has a pretty light trigger.

I have come to find that the triggers are all a little different from Rossi.

I had a Rossi 92 in .44. Never even fired it trying to chamber rounds was like trying to chamber a rock and constantly jammed. Took it back spent an extra $300 got the Henry and never looked back. On top of everything else the customer service from Rossi was non-existent. I’ll never buy another Rossi.
