I agree with every commentator: we were lucky to witness the career of Agnes Baltsa. Although born behind the iron curtain, I was lucky to met her several times. She is really amazing and certainly one of the last singer-actresses who are not only able to sing but to perform her part! And who ever saw her on stage will agree with me: She ruled the stage as soon and as long she stood there ...

Agnes Baltsa is just magical....best Octavian ever. No need to explain. Janet Perry is unstable in high register here...but Agnes Baltsa, Tomowa Sintow and Karajan... They made the completely new world of Strauss's Rosenkavalier. Just divine... i can't forget the shock i got when i watched it first time in 2010. And then i found myself learning German..

magic moments - the divine sound of Sophie`s high phrases melting with Octavian`s rich Straussian voice is breathtaking. Thank you both and thanks to the great Karajan.

This is the first production that I've found that even comes close to Bernstein's brilliant intuitive interpretation from 1968 Vienna. And Baltsa is endearing in the "pants role". I am so disappointed in the modern interpretations that speed up the tempo, and don't suspend the tension at the right moments. It's a delicate, highly complex and sophisticated score, and demands a genius to conduct it. The second violins alone are arduous with over 100 pages of score and direction, for example.

the guy at 0.18 who can be seen over the shoulder of Baltsa doesnt seems fully involved in the action :)
Who are the singers and the performance? Excellent.

SO Agreed... ! She compensates for the more "mediocre" Sophie.. Close your eyes and listen to this divine composition...Magic is in the air.. R. Strauss must have had a divine connection going on here...

Janet Perry is usually anything but "mediocre". Was war los?

Baltsa looks the part, but the voice is not deep enough and very fragile. Her career was very short because she oversung. Ludwig is much better with a heavier mezo.
