Feel bad for the interviewer, hardly got a word in. He made the point up front that he loved Alchemy, and based on his body language, was clearly familiar with the examples Rory was bringing up. Problem is, I think a lot of people have heard interviews with Rory and are looking for NEW insights, but are getting the same examples repeatedly, and unprompted. Unfortunately, the seeming lack of self-awareness with the interviewers is creating a loss of credibility for someone who has, ironically, built a career on understanding their audience. Love Rory, but I think someone needs to tell him to listen more. 😢

Thanks for you comment. Personally I found Rory really passionate and I enjoyed his passion. Personally I like guests who are harder to control as I see my job as getting out of the way and delicates prodding when needed. I do really appreciate your comment though

Having discovered Rory and after really enjoying the first podcast I listened to, I’ve now listened to quite a few and have noticed how much he interrupts and speaks over the interviewer, it’s really annoying. He also just uses the same framework of examples for every single interview. For someone who is so observant and switched on I thought he would put more thought into being a bit more genuine to each interview.

Yes, Rory invariably repeats himself in these longer formats. But that is inevitable to a great extent. One cannot develop an hour's worth of schtick for each interview. He comes up with more interesting and up to date micro instincts in his regular Spectator column called Wikiman.

Rory is a force of nature tbf. Sometimes you’ve just got to let people like that do their thing.

@Fraser Bailey Rory writes for the right wing Spectator Magazine. How disappointing.

Some people think the Beatles were great musicians when Quincy Jones said they were the worst musicians he had seen. The Beatles were marketed, that's why they were copied so much.
