Rory Scovel | Dare to Be Funny | Mike Birbiglia's Working It Out Podcast
Комедия
Mike welcomes Rory Scovel, whose special made Mike laugh so hard he spit water all over himself. Rory talks about how telling the truth and being vulnerable on stage led him to his best bits, how his taking up abstract painting is similar to comedy, and how a week of fully improvised stand-up shows gave Rory a new perspective on his career. Plus, the best and most off-the-rails “Working It Out” section the podcast has had yet.

What I love about Rory is how present he is on stage, he’s so in touch with the crowd and it’s a wonder to watch. So happy he’s finally on the pod!!
Most. Underrated. Ever. This man has a brain built for one thing - finding bits in the moment and exploding them
Rory Scovel is one of my favorite comedians of all time. Nobody else makes it feel more like the words being spoken are being spoken for the first time. Rory's comment at the beginning about jam bands is apt. I also love jam bands, and Rory's work has that quality of wanting to sit back and watch an artist work.
One of the best to ever do it. Rory just crushed two more improvised shows in Atlanta last weekend, it was amazing to see
Rory's painting/stand-up analogy was brilliant
Don't Assassinate Relatives Ever
Hell, yeah it's the theory of "living in the moment" meets "living your dreams" to be there and not have imposter syndrome! So awesome.
Rory is my favorite right now and he has the potential to be my favorite of all time.
If you haven’t seen Rory Scovel live, do yourself a favor and see him in person, he is the MOST present and intuitively funny comedian I’ve ever seen(burr, Wong, rock, Maniscalco, and many more)
Mark normand told rory his set was like being on mushrooms with friends and it's still the best description of his stand up ive seen. Rory and Pete Holmes are the best comics ive ever seen live. So good I was almost angry that they werent giving us a break to catch our breath
Mike, these episodes are absolute gold and such a gift. Thank you immeasurably for asking such thoughtful questions and giving me a peak into you and your fellow comedians process. Such a wonderful way to spend my time watching! Keep going! Rory is an audience’s comedian and I love his art!
Rory’s act embodies the Arthur Ashe quote; “start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.”
I've been hoping for this conversation for so long! Did not disappoint
I loved when Rory tried stand up comedy for the first time. so brave.
Yay!!!! Yes!!! Love Rory 😊😊😊😊 talk about Babylon 😁😁😁 :)))
Rory might be one if the funniest people alive
I’m comedian from Russia and I enjoy watching Rory’s special !
RORY, sure if youll see this comment, but Ive been massive fan forever, and thought of a great idea Doing a KZread show 'Painting With Scovel' just in the moment art stuff combined with your jazz approach to comedy
I love this podcast so much!
21:28 a friend of mine always say to each other "get out of your head, it's the worst place to be" that's the red hand print. Love it!
So a duo show. I’ll take my 5 percent.

Invest your money and they might
did anyone notice how Rory slipped the title of the movie Girbigaboo directed right to Mike? didn't even blink twice
Naturally funny Is what all comedians strive for (or pretend to be) on stage.
Instant click 👏
My mt Rushmore is four scovels
with the dare thing... you're ALREADY not using drugs, in that moment, so ... mission accomplished?
oh I’m absolutely one of those guys who knows history and I have been more ashamed
Where is Rory?
Directly Against Relishing Execution. I think third grade is when they taught us
D.A.R.E. - Don't Assassinate Reincarnate Everyone
Omg he doesn’t write material he identifies as funny
This rivals one of the most pretentious conversations I've ever heard. I'd have to be pretty LIT to talk like this with a straight face.

You mean talk passionately about a special interest? That's sad bro.
I stopped watching at 13 minutes because the depth of the conversation doesn't feel earned... because I don't know who Rory is. Maybe if I knew who Rory was a bit more before getting that deep I wouldn't have left. Who cares what I think, but I thought I would share. Keep up the good work.

If you want an introduction to his work, start with his 2013 "Full Set as a Southern Guy". He takes the stage in character and the vast majority if not all of it is improvised.

Give his HBO special a go then, worth a gamble. He's one of Conan's favourite stand-ups
