Compared to the songs I've heard by Rory Gallagher, this one just has a completely different sound to it, and it's awesome

That right pinky finger replacing a wammy bar technique always blows me away. Apparently the wammy bar on this guitar broke off not long after he got the guitar so he had to improvise. My guitar hero.

I wonder if he tried putting in a new whammy bar at some point

He played a few guitars in gigs and always did an acoustic set on his own… he had a large collection of guitars that went on a museum tour with other famous guitars

Thanks for another Rory reaction! Rock Goes To College was a BBC TV series where they set up and recorded concerts at college campuses by different artists.

ooh ok. That's a cool series. I guess nowadays it wouldn't be as impactful as back then

LOL-Rory always tuned his guitar while playing. The string pulling is one of his unique techniques and he always found it a challenge to see what sounds he could pull out of his guitar by just using the instrument and his hands. You'll notice there is no whammy bar on this Strat. When it broke off, he saw no reason to replace it since he could use his hands to create the same effects. He used hammer-ons and harmonics a lot in his playing, as well as using his tone pot with his little finger for effects. He was a master and there will never be anyone like him again.

Yeah in one of the previous reactions I did, there was no whammy bar on the guitar and I don't think I noticed it during the reaction initially but it got pointed out to me

He's still fretting the string with his left hand but he's pulling on it behind the fretting hand, hence the appearance of 'swapping hands'. He uses it for vibrato effects by pulling the string sharp

Rory was very scary to watch live. For a very unassuming person to suddenly become an electric wizard once he hooked up his guitar.
