ROPE BUNK BED FOR CATS
Our cats had waited long enough for a bed equaling their inherent elegance, and I finally got around to making it.
The frame is mortised and tenoned together from Tulip poplar and given a red stain. No pegs or wedges are needed as the joints are very tight and also held together by the rope weaving.
Mrs. Chickadee graciously put her carving skills to use on the respective headboards so no one would get confused. So far nap time has become an all day affair...

Nice mini bunk bed! I'm making a double so I can fit a futon mattress for myself as I type lol. Rope beds are underrated and under used. Its such an economical choice that lasts long term.

As a child I would visit my godmother who had a chestnut log cabin on mt. Washington. I used to sleep there on a rope bed much like the one you built, albeit not a double bunk, quite a bit bigger and probably one less cat. It had a tightening method that escapes my memory but the old hemp ropes had to be tightened from time to time. That cabin is still there, has been for a couple hundred years. I haven't been inside in probably 30 years but I've gone by it in the last couple years. It's in need of attention. Mine not to put too fine a point on it. I saw some work they had done to the place and whomever did it doesn't have a clue as to what they're doing. I hate to see beautiful things neglected.

A house, and homestead are never "finished". Only lived in and improved as you go. There is always something to adjust, fix, build, or do over because you want to improve it. :)
