    NTA. The literally accused you of attempted rape. That's not something you let stand. Remind that 'friend' that those kinds of allegations destroy people.

    OP should ask the "friend" if she would be ok with him accusing her of trying to do inappropriate things with children and making sure the friend group knows and shuns her for it, but only privately apologized for making that up, and then only with evidence and a threat of a lawsuit. Would she be fine with the friend group still thinking of her as a kiddy diddler because he would be embarrassed to admit he lied to them?

    Well did the right thing confronting the accuser but for the wrong reasons. Rape allegations are on your character, you should respond for your character not to save your social standings
