I felt really angry on Richardson's behalf, here. When you tell people you don't like dancing, that you don't want to dance at a party or something, the universal first response is "let's start you off with something easy. I guarantee you'll have fun." Sod your guarantee. I've obviously tried dancing before, how else would I know that I hate doing it? Why is my lack of participation bothering you so much? I'm not throwing buckets of water on you whenever you start twitching, you can do what you like. Get back on the bloody dance floor and let me enjoy my nibblies in peace.

It's a character he's playing, Jon knows that. There's a history of vicious, largely camp criticism in England, but everyone knows it's not genuine. I mean, everyone used to know that. People will generally believe anything these days.
@madperson87610 жыл бұрын
I think that Jon made some very good comebacks towards Craig especially, but he was waiting for the right time to say them. For example, when Craig made a comment at Jon, later Jon would later make a dig at Craig's shoes. I think that he was just doing what a comedian would do, just waiting for the right time to come in. When making a comment to someone like Craig, you really need that. But he did actually get more applause than the other two.

I don't care, I have no interest in dancing therefore I will NOT do it. Next time someone tries to force me to dance, I'll hand them a guitar (because I play guitar as a hobby) and say play, let's say, Flight of the Bumblebee on this. And when they say "I don't play guitar", I'll respond "Oh go on, just do it...

@praveenraj5249
6 жыл бұрын
ash thomas, I'm quite certain that he is like that in real life as well. It is very much possible. I know it because I share a lot in common with his personality. Mild OCD/perfectionism, check (actually the OCD is quite high but we know that it's not good, so we tend to ignore most of it, just like Jon did in the show). Popularity among women, check (we are quite charming, honest, sensitive and quick witted, but lack the confidence mostly because we don't know anything about women. My guess is he doesn't have a sister either). 1.Dancing: I love watching people dance. It makes me happy that they are having such a good time. But in parties and such, if you're asked to dance and doesn't have the grace these pro dancers have, all you do is embarrass yourself and may even become the butt of a joke. Why would anyone want to do that?! 2.Married friends: Even though it does make me a bit jealous, I'm quite happy for them. I tend to ignore the jealousy, since, as much as I'm interested in relationships, I'm not that interested in marriages. It always tend to be be tricky. But I'm happy for them being able to follow the tradition. 3.The brain: This is absolutely true. All my problems arise from overthinking. I try to reason with my conscience all the time. It's exhausting and makes life completely boring. Sometimes, I envy the people who are commonly categorized as 'idiots' for their ability to "not give a shit" about anything serious. I tried alcohol, but all it did was put me less in control of my extremities, but I still remember every detail of it. Why does everything fun come in an "out of the scope of reasoning" package? >_

Actual comedians like Lee Mack or Jimmy Carr are always respectful of him and just give him some friendly ribbing to the level that he's comfortable with. It's these random celebrities that attempt to be "funny" by being bullies to him. They don't know how to work with self deprecating humour without crossing the line.

Jon is so convincing on the subject of being forced to dance. When David Mitchell and Charlie Brooker raised that issue on the Big Fat Quiz (incidentally, the three of them would be the perfect line-up for this show) the same thing happened. I love to dance, but I'm not going to evangelize dancing on people who don't want to do it. I think it's so hateful to try to force something you enjoy on someone else.

Jon is part of an uncommon but ever-present group of people who tend to be happier by themselves than with others. I think Stephen Fry falls into this category as well; I certainly do. I have friends and I love them dearly, but every time I have pursued romance it has been far more stress and misery than joy. It's uncommon, but it's not as rare as people think.

Dean Winchester Sometimes when you are smart but don't know how to be humble about it you mistake self loathing for humility, at least that is what I do XD. Plus it does make a funny gag if you are the kind of person who enjoys a joke at your expense as much as one at somebody else's.

Dean Winchester The thing is, Jon's comedy is self-deprecating and meant to be funny. But when the people around him actually sit there and agree that he's pathetic the humor is diminished and he starts to just seem sad. He's not REALLY that full of self-loathing.

Dean, I don't think it's really self-loathing. I think he's just bemused by the oddities he sees in himself, that other celebs paper over and pretend they don't have. But I always feel good about people (myself and others) after watching Jon Richardson, so that's got to say something positive about him. ;-) And I've previously had a soft spot for Sheila Hancock, so I was sorry to see her turn into the kind of guest who puts other guests down when she's out of her depth. Another guest immediately said 'I'll get you started with a warm-up run', to which Olivia said [and I am quoting] "Fuck off! I just said I hate everything about marathon running". For the next five minutes, she wouldn't let it go, until Graham just shut it down. Richard Ayoade had a similar experience on one of the 'Big Fat Quiz' shows, and got really vocal about how some people just can't understand that some people just don't want to do certain things, and that they don't have to just because someone else thinks they should.

Jon's BRILLIANT! "It's called evolution." Good for him!
"It's called evolution." You go Jon!!
I think they more or less missed the point Jon has about dancing. He clearly stated that he was fine with others dancing, but that the problem was when they didn't leave well enough alone, that had to coerce him into joining in. THAT is what he said he hates.
Craig goes: "I hate wedding speeches, THEY SHOULD BE OUTLAWED." Jon goes: "I hate dancing, but I DON'T MIND WHEN OTHER PEOPLE DO IT." Who's the dull, arrogant prick then, Craig?

Seems like Jon's problem isn't dancing itself, but people who refuse to let others be to spend a party doing things they enjoy rather than things that please others. I happen to love dancing but my sympathy is totally with Jon on this one.

Dancing isn’t for everyone. I fucking hate everyday normies imposing their dancing apartheid on others. Fuck right off
I felt really angry on Richardson's behalf, here.
IT'S A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT. JON RICHARDSON ISN'T WEARING A CARDIGAN. Miracles do happen *wipes tear from eye*
So Craig never tells jokes and despises people that do, and he said that Jon was the most boring person because he doesn't like dancing (but doesn't mind other people doing it). I know who I'd rather have a pint with. Why would someone agree to be on a comedy panel show if they don't find anything funny?

It's a character he's playing, Jon knows that. There's a history of vicious, largely camp criticism in England, but everyone knows it's not genuine. I mean, everyone used to know that. People will generally believe anything these days.
What on earth is up with the battle against Jon Richardson?! They're really laying into him! :(
What Jon said about his brain is so true, really understand how he feels.
I so agree with Jon on the dancing issue! People are always trying to get me to dance. NO! I won't! They say oh, do it a few times and it'll be fine, or have lessons and it'll be fine.
I love Jon. He's wonderful and probably the only comedian and can relate to the most.
"I hate how when you say you hate dancing, people immediately try to make you dance" "OH COME ON JOHN JUST TAKE SOME LESSONS YOU'LL LOVE IT" smh
Jon: I don't like it when people force me to dance Craig: I HATE it when people tell jokes..... darling
The stuff Jon says at 21:12 is some deep shit I can relate to. I hope he is happy now. I just want to give him a tight hug. I hate it when comedians pick on him to crack silly jokes that aren't even funny because he is an easy target. I love this man. He is funny and real.

ash thomas, I'm quite certain that he is like that in real life as well.

20:39 "Leave her!" Spat out coffee and laughed so hard.

It's uncommon, but it's not as rare as people think.
i actually feel sorry for the amount of self loathing Jon secretly seems to have for himself, he's a really honest, humerous guy so its unfortunate about the apparent self esteem issues. The guy on Jons' left didnt help at all either. I think he's a rude prick without moral bounds.

It wasn't funny, or any kind of clever.
John Richardson is a legend!
"It's called evolution" Anyone else literally shouted BURRRRN!!!!
Jon jokes about being bitter but he's actually quite nice. I say this because Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle would have torn Craig apart here. I don't know if they already have... Just basing that on whatever shows I've managed to catch on youtube here in Atlanta.
At 24:40, Frank "tells a joke" ... exactly like Craig hates. The air is so tense because everyone except Craig is hating Craig. And then Frank tries to get Craig to tell a joke is DESIGNED to wind him up and make a right fool of him. Well done producers.

Jeez, I feel sorry for Jon. I have many friends who don't like dancing, and their awesome people! Dancing doesn't equal enjoyment, just as drinking doesn't equal enjoyment. I personally like to dance but there are times, when out with friends, I really don't feel like it either! Olivia Colman said she didn't like running, especially marathons, on the Graham Norton Show.
This is one of the funniest episodes of Room 101 ever!
