    As far as background music goes, this video is the best. Because it actually accomplishes something, namely a lively air in terms of selection and volume that helps the viewer focus on the speaker. Woe to those viewers who have been subjected to videos featuring video makers' favorite music. Because, well, they have have bad taste in music. And, as all who have such taste, they like it loud.

    When you mentioned the grid to stop animals and debris from entering it reminded me of one of our units at work that failed in a really weird way. They never figured out the cause so not sure if it has to do with something that got in but basically the main blower shaft was bent and it started to oscillate. The bend got worse and worse and it was basically shaking the whole building! We could hear various "tick tick tick" vibrations in the ceiling in random parts of the office, just from the false ceiling and light fixtures etc, and thought it was odd but did not think much of it. This got worse until one of us realized there was a really intense pulsating feeling on the 2nd floor. It was almost like a powerful subwoofer feeling and it felt different depending where you stand. The unit was in that room on the roof cooling that room. Supposedly the vibrations could be felt even outside the building at one point. The shaft that was bent was several inches in diameter, they still have no idea what happened, but it's fixed now. As a side note, getting parts from Carrier is like pulling teeth... They sent the wrong parts at least 3 times.

    A packaged air conditioning means an AHU unit with an inbuilt cooling unit ( that is no attached component such as chillers). This Air Handling Unit cools the air and sends this cooled air through a defined route duct work. The returned air is leaves the building through a defined route duct work to the exhaust channel in the AHU unit.

    A packed unit is a unit that contains all of the system components in one unit. In a home the evaporator is inside while the condenser is outside. In a packed unit all of the components are inside of one unit, like in a RTU.

    I've seen some units that have an inside unit, which will have a full cooling cycle with compressor, and then will have an outside unit which will also have another compressor and cooling cycle, and there is glycol lines going between them. Essentially the glycol is used to cool the condenser and compressor in the indoor unit. What is the advantage of this vs just having a split system? Is it because a refrigeration loop has a limited working distance and the glycol lines can go further?

  • @EngineeringMindset

    @EngineeringMindset

    5 жыл бұрын

    It used to come down to space. It was more compact to place the motor on a belt drive. Now it comes down to money. Direct drive is more expensive but more efficient. Belt drive is cheaper to buy initially but more expensive to run because it's less efficient and required more maintenance and spare.

I am suffering with this issue, specially in Summer in Dubai. Do u know how long lasts Summer in Dubai? Exhaust air and fresh air can’t be in the same side and over each other, weird construction. Look at the grid which stops the front air and collect the air from exhaust air. Thank u for this video, it helped me to understand where that bad smell is coming from

    Can a RTU installed in a sloped roof (1:100)? How efficient would that be? It seems to me that it will be impact the flow air and liquid in the unit.

  • @scotteckart1401

    @scotteckart1401

    3 жыл бұрын

    A flat (perpendicular to the ground) mechanical curb could installed and supported on the the sloped roof, that way the RTU itself would be flat. But as long as the ducts connected to the unit into the building are where they need to be, there wouldn't be any issue with the air flow and refrigerant flow inside the unit if it were sloped. The refrigerant is being pumped around and so it would flow no problem.

  • @redsquirrelftw

    @redsquirrelftw

    4 жыл бұрын

    A lot of them are installed outside the building on the ground, then have two ducts going into the wall. I think they basically work the same way. My church has one. I think this is typical for buildings that don't have a flat roof as there is no way to install it on the roof. Also less chance of leakages. A roof top unit is harder to install properly as if you don't seal things right you can get leaks.
