Roofer Gambles With HOMEOWNER'S Insurance Claim Record

As adults we all have our own agency and free will, so if a homeowner decides to file an insurance claim as a "gamble" to see if he can get "something for nothing," he is accountable for it, not the roofer. The roofer, however, should be aware that if he tells a homeowner to file a claim, he'd better be more than 50% confident that the claim will be approved, otherwise the homeowner could suffer the consequences of a frivolous claim.

There's also something to be said about the CAT storms like in Castle Rock, Parker, etc. right now. Regardless of if YOU file a claim or not, if a large percentage of the area is filling claims, the insurance company will likely raise rates for the storm area anyway. So you get punished because all your neighbors filed claims.

You’re correct that if the entire area gets a rate increase. What you’re missing is that every customer has an insurance score tied to their policy like a credit score. Your premium can easily be adjusted based on your insurance score. Trust me, I know

Zero pay claim doesn't penalize you for checking your roof after a storm. They also will not raise your insurance rates for this - that is ridiculous. Insurance rates are raised by ZIP code, not per individual claim for an act of god.

I did not say it will raise your insurance rates. But having a zero-pay claim does count on your record here in Colorado.

You’re speaking out of your ass. Zero paid claims can definitely get you dropped and impact eligibility with other carriers. Insurance companies care almost more about propensity to make claims vs claim amount.

Homeowners should not be punished for taking responsible action to maintain their property. Roofers aren't the problem here; it's how insurance operates. The insurance industry operates on a risk-based model, and various factors influence an insurer's decision-making process, like filing a claim, disrepair of wear and tear damages, and living in a storm-prone area. Reforms and increased fairness in the insurance industry can help ensure homeowners are not unduly penalized for responsible actions to maintain their properties.

I know quite a few contractors in Southern Colorado that call in every single roof every time even when they know it probably won't get bought, even when there's not any damage and they're aware of it. And all they do is just sit there and bad mouth the insurance company the whole time when it gets denied because that shadow on the roof or that thermal crack, or that blister and it's all just not covered and it shouldn't be. The worst of which is ameripro and Premier though. I'm not convinced that those companies don't work for the insurance companies, because they go around and say that every single house should be called in even before they've been on the roof and even when there hasn't been a storm in the area.

Personallly seems like an insurance problem, like what reputable company drops a customers just to see if they have storm damage that is covered by there policy. Also the rates will go up either way and so will the codt of getting a new roof
