Thats how they used to do it back in the day before flexable pointing.
Don't butter up joints, re bed the tiles

Great logic - dont worry about the roof actually being waterproof because the felt will save the day🤡

Hips never leak mate like ridge line they do but it’s rare and not a lot of water

Tile doesn’t keep the water out. The underlayment does.

This roof is over 30 years old and doesn't have underlayment
