I prefer the coil nailer, feel safer using one too. Paslodes are sketchy contraptions always feel like I'm going to shoot myself in the leg when carrying it on my pouch

Especially, in a part like that were you will have Small Trusses sitting on top of those 4 boards & No temporary positioning Bracing. (A 2pc Truss system; because, a Whole Truss is Too Big to Fit on a Semi-trailer &/or Road Restrictions. )

Or mark & nail of the 2' off-center first.. Then, measure off them to get your 16" OC's.. (and back again-- if need be.) Also, marking the Side of the 2x4 help-- with accuracy.. And Help prevent a Sheathing Nightmare. xD

I don't know about an electrician... but I love to stick frame. It's one of my favourite things to do.

Same...most satisfying...I've witnessed a lot of crews can get the house to the roof stage fairly fast then they give it back on the roof...the roof stage remains the great divide in framing. Personally speaking it's my favorite part of the job...yesterday I came to work and quickly realized the labourers through out all my front garage roof jacks...so now I get to hand frame it in no biggy. It take a little longer but I enjoyed it

Hey there, Beast! I just recently started to work as a carpenter, building houses, like a month ago. I'm on my first house right now. Roof starting to get ready and we're framing the wall elements now. I remember a few weeks ago when we installed the roof trusses, it's a tall, big roof. Point is at around 15(?)ft off the ground (sorry I'm on metric system so I try to get it right in feets). And the roof is on the ground atm, we build the end triangles and trusses between them and make the roof ready, then build the wall elements, lift the roof, hoist up the walls and install the ready roof on top of the walls. It's 15ft up to the point of the roof now, when it's on the ground, or on the foundations of the house :D I was installing those supporting boards on top of the trusses and I remember my legs getting a little shaky :D Trusses are 3ft apart from eachother, and they are not yet secured completely so they wobble from side to side under your shoes... :D Bit nervous up there but I remembered to be really careful and mind my every step. No harness. Just me with a vest full of nails and a Milwaukee cordless nailgun, so no airhoses. But the thing "don't look down" is actually true. I focused and looked to the next place I'm putting my foot to, all the time. And in a while you actually kinda forget how high up you are. Only rule is, that you never walk backwards. Always chest and face facing the direction you're going, never taking a step backwards and trusting that the truss is there. That was the only rule the guys gave me :) Amazing to look a pro like you. Hope I'll learn to move up there like that someday also :) Going careful now, but learning more and more every day. Greetings from Finland - keep up the good work bro!

Only rule is no walking backwards on a roof that has no sheeting on it, then goes on to say 12 more rules. You keep expecting a climax then the ending but keeps barking off those rules and how they build them triangles on the ground but on the roof but on the ground foundation on the house they are lifting walls up on now that the roof is built on the concrete outside lines that are about this thick ----

Everytime I see a McMansion I cant help but think how much wood is wasted in the roof. I live in Northern Canada and did not waste one stick of wood in my ceiling/roof.

Some throw it like a baseball , some put a spin on it and bounces off of every piece on the way up .. and down . Some come back down and ricochet and knock their teeth out . I especially like it when throwing up a cut that has point on it like a valley jack rafter . that impales the guy catching it .

@@framingbeast720 I work in construction too, tile and stone installation, but you need a security rope man, you never know, wind can mess up your balance, something falls in your eyes or a God damn fly wanna shit on you... you need that line bro. I know it’s uncomfortable to wear... I saw a guy fall off a step ladder (2 feet tall) breaking his ankle and a hand (bone fracture), and it was just 2 feet my brother .

Can't wait till you get one of the coming electric pickups that you can run your power tools off of all day. Another trick with the god-awful compressor drone noise is to put a motor on them that is twice too big and they run soooo much quieter....

Ah .. I miss the crazy days .. walk around like a cat and people would look up at you like your nuts . Just got used to it . My worst experience was building a Fairfield Inn . triple piggybacks , 80' to the ground and scary as hell over the stairwells . A few hundred trusses , crew of clowns and a fat superintendent that's done it all . Took a sharpie and put 4 stars on my hardhat like Patton and wrote "Lead Idiot " .. The super told me I only had limited crane time and hurry up . I basically ignored his ass . He had a bright idea and had manufactured spacing brackets out of steel . oversized holes to nail through so everything shook . and remotely good if we had duplex nails .. I ignored him and had a guy prep 25-1/2 " blocks preset with sinkers . Then braced and stripped and used them again and again . He was adamant about his custom made spacers and said " Son , I've been doing this since you been shitting yella and the whole idea about these spacers " to which I told him . "You know sometimes great ideas just don't work , So what do you do ? continue with it ?" ... We never became drinking buddies !!! . It wasn't his nutsack up there . He was in his comfortable air conditioned jobsite trailer while I was sweating to The Oldies about 100' closer to the sun . I provided entertainment for the Golden Corral next door . Diners would get window seating just to watch me swing like a potentially suicidal Tarzan . I kinda miss those days being a spider monkey with a nail gun . Upon completion . I handed him my resignation with finger middle , Told him to hang it in his ass and at no point in his illustrious career of days gone by , Could he of ever hung with me . . Many in grueling office jobs have no idea what it takes to do what this man is doing . Every step is dancing with the devil and a full body cast and a feeding tube if your lucky to have hit the floor and lived .

Point taken, sometimes I do the marking up there if I have cuts setup for the ground guy..name of the game is knn like the filter...keep the nailer nailing..and in order for that to happen the cutter has to be burning through those batteries. Thanks for posting btw

@@framingbeast720 since, there's was only 4 or 5 lateral braces.. I would of Figured 1 out & transfered the marks Over to the Other-- like T&B wall plates + wide side-- with a speed square.. And even taking a seconds to square doesn't hurt. Little mistakes can turn into Big Mistakes. 😂 I've only framed Super Fancy Custom Homes-- that were design by Engineers that have never Swung a hammer.. xD Sweeped Roofs, Witches Cap, Drive Thru Garages, Round walls & Bumpouts.. total WTF's.. 🤣😂 And a few 6 plex Townhouses that took more time to do the Fire Code Stuff; than, standing the Shell.. xD

For most larger houses with a 8/12 or higher piggy pack trusses are fairly common here

Ryan homes here in Ohio use glorified cardboard to sheath the outside. It's unreal what builders are getting away with. Those same Ryan homes are starting at 350000. Don't trust them until you look over the home really well.

Have you ever worked on a crew that used laser lines to layout exterior and interior walls? Do you use lasers at all on the job? What are some layout tips to be faster and more accurate? Or more efficient

We dont use lasers but we started using construction master calculator for squaring instead of 3-4-5... go across the whole building instead of the closest multiple. just get your "rise and run" (lengths of your 2 walls you're squaring) and press diagonal. Done. They are super handy on the roof or even dividing a number by 2 when youre feeling dumb

Yes lasers are great if you get a high quality one. I used PLS3 and PLS5 from Pacific Laser Systems. Nothing beats them for plumbing up your walls- nothing, not even Stabila. You set the laser on the bottom plate grazing the inside edge then adjust the top of the wall till the laser grazes it or splits the beam. Always mark the center of the laser dot. They work great for quickly checking the floor for square too I prefered old school for snappin my lines.

@@LL-xl6ht Pneumatic all day! Well.. for all round house framing at least. I use my Milwaukee battery nailer gun for punch work and repairs. It beats having to unload my compressor, hoses and gun when it’s just a quick punch job.

The crew I work with don't have an once of try knowledge or go fast I would like to work with you

Man helpers throwing skills level zero I even seen a spiral would drive me nuts. Aim for the head if the person is paying attention they will catch it. If you do what he did trying to throw it next or under you'll miss every time.

poor nail gun. how many times a day does it misfire if your making money with all your speed you should have better tools.if my nailer doesnt work every time it gets fixed or tossed. wasting time on tools that dont work cost you money and effort. working fast is all good till it takes away from quality. where is the craftsmanship?

i only use strip nailers. pasload for life. regular maintenance (new o-rings) every few months. when oil is shooting out ports its time. i repair all my own stuff.

You’re fast but your craftsmanship sucks man. You blew those blocks to pieces toenailing them, and then you didn’t even make them flush on the opposite side, one was very high. Also, why not use a tape and place those blocks where the joints on your sheathing will be to increase strength. A little slowing down could go a long way to make a better building. What you do is not impressive!
