Ronnie at his peak powers! Regardless of his weaknesses with substance abuse. Everyone's body and mind breaks down eventually. There's no need to compare him to his present day playing, he's already proved himself.

When people ask "Who's your favourite guitar player" , it's unequivocal response: "Ronnie Earl". I'm usually met with a blank face. Ronnie has been an inspiration since those early Blacktop CDs --mid 80's . To see this phenomenal. His ideas are free-flowing and inventive. He always plays from the heart and with great technique. A rare combination. Just brilliant.

@@hjeffkennedy1249 Yes, Ships Passing in the Night is great! I love Daryl Nulisch too. I met Daryl when he was playing a concert with Anthony Geraci once and I told Daryl that I loved his singing with Ronnie Earl on Ronnie's albums I bought. And it felt like he was chastising me when he said, " Then why didn't you buy any of MY albums?!" I was a little taken aback my that.

Ronnie is the cure for anybody who ever found cause to call Blues boring, repetitious, whatever. He's incorporated a sky-full of sophisticated jazzy licks and stuff that's totally abstract and original, but it never fails to slide in seamlessly and stay all the way "Downtown." How did this guy not get his name shouted from the rooftops for the last 30-40 years? I'm usually not big on comparisons or rating, but this guy's probably forgotten more than some famous Blues "masters." Go, Ronnie, GO!

Gotta add another "wow" to this one. Man, I've had the chance to play with Darrell and Steve Gomes quite a few times, but I don't think I ever better try an up T-Bone tune with them after watching that! Tony Z, too. Ronnie IS on fire there, playing so loose, sometimes he's almost out of control and then pulls it back together- he's riding on the edge, for sure. That's a good place to be. Bravo, maestro.

These days we play as either a trio, Rick Miller & His Band with Per, myself, and Tom Ambrose (long-time protege' of Marty Ballou), or as a foursome, adding Bob Cleary on 2nd guitar. Bob studied with Ronnie for years and adds a lot for bigger venues. Find us at all the usual places in ME. Casino 4 times later this yr, NABF, MBF, local venues.
