I think the injury free Ronaldo was the best player in the history of the game. He was the most talented young player at the age of just 19 or 20 years. At that time football was much more difficult than it is today because the best as well as the brutal defenders of the planet played at that time. It was not very easy for a striker to score lots of goals and win the Ballon D'or. But Ronaldo won it in two consecutive seasons in 96 and 97 when he was just 19 or 20. If he could win the World cup in the next year in France he would become the first player to win the award for 3 years in a row at the age of just 22. Just imagine man how good Ronaldo was!!!!

Poi da rossonero ho avuto anche la fortuna ed il piacere di averlo nel MILAN nel 2007, ovvero nell anno della SETTIMA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, anche se lui non potendo disputare le gare europee, ha giocato solo nel campionato 2006/2007, facendo anche quel gol magnifico del momentaneo 1-0 del derby di Milano, di sinistro rasoterra sul secondo palo.... Anch'io sono milanista, e posso tranquillamente dire che il Ronaldo 95-98 non ha paragoni nella storia del calcio (forse solo Pelé a quell'età fu così devastante). Mi spiace ma Maradona, Messi etc. A QUELL'ETÀ non erano così forti. Poi un favore ti chiedo: non paragonare Schevchenko (ottimo giocatore per carità) a Ronaldo

@@cariocabassa no son tonterías para mi estaban al mismo nivel pero jugadores diferentes, uno en su momento era el mejor delantero y el otro el mejor media punta, por eso les pongo al mismo nivel y créeme soy el mayor defensor de ronaldo, yo mismo les vi muchas veces en el bernabeu, ya que mi padre era socio del Madrid y veíamos muchos partidos juntos, y pocas veces vi a jugadores de semejante talento o nivel, tanto Ronaldo como zidane eran un escandolo por no mencionar a figo, que era Capaz de hacer prácticamente lo mismo que zidane sólo que tenia menos prensa y era algo menos mediático

Think as well those passovers at full speed were partly the reason his knees got wrecked later. Actually the second time his knees gave up in Inter it was right when he was doing one of these. That being said, those pass overs are a gem, it's sad his body could not handle them but damn are they mesmerizing to watch in slow motion. And what kind of technical aptitude it takes to make them. I've seen nobody else do them that way.

compared to who ? in my opinion in terms of having a combination of skills & speed & strength, in his prime Ronaldo was probably the best player in history. His dribbling skills, his creativity in terms of dribbling skills and at what speed he was doing them were never seen up till then, he inspired a generation of greats like Henry, Ronaldinho, Ibrahmovic, Cr. Ronaldo and so on. Are there any TYPE of strikers like these today ? Sure you'll find better athletes, better finishers (Ronaldo wasn't the best finisher but mostly because he liked coming deep in the middle from where he could get the ball to start making his runs, he wasn't a box striker) but to have his level of technicity, i'm afraid not.

I've watched his performances and games in the italian and spanish league when he was bloody young (19-20) and He faced legendary and tough defenders Like Maldini, Nesta, Costacurta, Desailly and other great players and guess what he made them look like nothing due to his skills and explosive pace. People talk like that because they didn't witness such players except Messi and Cristiano. I'm pretty sure no player in existence would perform like Ronaldo did during that era in the hardest and best league of all time not even Ronaldinho. There's a reason why Ronaldo is nicknamed the Phenomenom.
