In 1985, US president Ronald Reagan invites Danish Prime Minister Poul Schlüter to Washington, DC. Poul Schlüter meets with several high-ranking American politicians - including the president as seen in this video, where both leaders speak at an official dinner at The White House.
The visit takes place at a time when Danish politics is characterized by what is known as “fodnotepolitikken” (the footnote policy). A majority in the Danish parliament forces the Danish government to make reservations, footnotes in the NATO agreements that Denmark agrees upon.
