Ronald Reagan - "A Time for Choosing"

View the full speech here: millercenter.org/scripps/archi...
In a speech supporting the Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater, Reagan speaks of big government, high taxation, and the "war on poverty." He addresses foreign policy issues including the risk of appeasement, "peace through strength," and the Vietnam War. The speech establishes Reagan as an important figure in the conservative wing of the Republican party.

How are we defending out freedom by invading a foreign country? We should have learned that from Nam. Where we entered over an attack on one of our ships off the coast of North Vietnam that never happened. If there's such a concern for freedom...why has the conservative faction of our bipartisan system been responsible for some of the most despotic regimes in history? Such as the Pinochet regime in Chile? Saddam Hussein in Iraq? Hussein within the first month took out his entire cabinet with the full knowledge of America who looked the other way. The TALIBAN. That's right. WE put them in power in Afghanistan....funded and trained them to get rid of the soviets in Afghanistan. They funded and trained HAMAS al qaeda and probably isis. If we want to protect freedom we need to return to the foundation of our constitutional republic which was established to GET AWAY from this bullshit. You don't protect OUR freedom by illegally invading foreign countries over conflicts not even relevant to the immediate scope over what is occurring here. That's westernization not freedom. Especially since we talk about protecting our freedom while establishing despotic regimes in other countries. The most dangerous about our bipartisan political paradigm is its hypocritical nature. Neither party is interested in our constitution except as a byword to be used for their own benefit.

It is time for another Reagan. We need another true fiscal conservative that believes in individual freedom as well as individual responsibility. Someone who truly loves this country and wants to see freedom for all. Never sacrifice freedom for security. I would rather die on my feet as live on my knees. Reagan came along at the perfect time (repairing most of the damage Jimmy Carter had created). It is time for another Reagan.

As it slips to the mindest you portray, it is going down daily. So you may be right, we may be doomed shortly, not because there is no God, but becasue we refuse to honor Him.

Its time to get right with Jesus. nobody is automatically gonna go to heaven at the end of it, we all have lied or stolen or had sex before marriage and the punishment is hell. Jesus died so you can get a clean slate and forgiveness of future sins if you repent of them if you commit them, so you receive the gift of forgiveness by following him. When you start you have to stop sinning, and follow his word and obey it. That’s following the Lord Jesus. Read the Bible

He claimed at the very beginning to be a democrat most of his life, but he fails to acknowledge that the "southern strategy" employed in the early 60s was designed to created confusion between the terms politically liberal & economically liberal -completely different concepts. The old 'southern democratic' was the racist, slaveholding families of the south who needed big government for infrastructure like roads and electricity organized and paid for by government. Once those things were provided by government in their favor, they switched to the republican party and advocated for small government, even lower taxes for the rich, the dismantling of unions, toxic individualism, and a maintaining of institutional racism. Let's not forget to mention how much wasteful spending he invested in the star wars program that put our military spending at egregious levels compared to the rest of the world, and how much he interfered in the governments of South and Latin America, and the Middle East, for which war, economic & political instability -the consequences of which are still felt today as refugees continue to flee where the US has intervened the most. American history is way more complicated than one speech or a series of conspiracy theories. Ronald Reagan, an actor, helped the patriarchy do a bait and switch for the rich and left 80% of America living paycheck to paycheck while they blame the poor.
