Ron Holland Scouting Report | 2024 NBA Draft Breakdowns

Спорт

Ron Holland had his share of lows as did the Ignite but still managed to show himself to be a high lottery talent as a defender, slasher and high motor wing. And his skill progression was unrivaled by many in this class despite being over tasked with creation duties. Still major questions in his shot but has the framework of an impactful NBA player.

I think it's crazy that a lot of draft analysts have him outside the top 10. He has some serious question marks as a prospect, but he showed way more upside than just about anyone in this class. Seems like people just want to write off athletic G-League Ignite guys cause the track record hasn't been great so far.

Honestly, I think he should be the number one prospect. In my opinion he's the only guy that has any sort of superstar celling in this draft. Everyone is talking bout his shooting but he got nice form and his confident with it, you see many players struggle with percantages even in college where you have shorter 3 point line(like for exaple Ant shot less than 30% from three in georgia). He's got the makings of the elite 2-way wing and with lack of super high celling prospect in this draft I would easily take him first.

Holland would fit so well with charlotte. LaMelo runs the offense with Miller as an secondary ball a handler. Mark Williams on the P&R with Miles and Holland on the wings/corners. Hollands only weakness is his shooting. His defense is NBA ready, he can slash crazy good already and his playmaking is good enough. Plus Charlotte have LaMelo so he wouldnt need to playmake a lot anyway

Remember he's quite young and just led a professional team with no support at 20 points a game. There's a lot of growth he showed. A lot of reason to believe there is a ton of potential on offence and defence even if he isn't ever gonna be Kyle Korver. There are very good players that are only average distance shooters.

I actually think he should go 1. I get it he can’t shoot…he’s 18. He played elite defense on a crappy team. Which means he wants to compete. 3.2 stocks in a man’s league. That’s pretty damn good. I think he will be able to shoot. Gonna take awhile. But he’s gonna play early just because he can defend. He grabs rebounds. He can play make a little. I think he is extremely underrated. Just because he can’t shoot.

I actually agree with you. Top 3, IMHO. Assuming we're talking sheer upside, players with the natural talent and ability to potentially becoming a top player on a contending team, which is usually what dictates the Top 4 picks. If that's my main focus as a Franchise, it's Sarr and Holland. That's it. Outside of a few surprise guys, I see no one else in this draft with that kind of potential.

I do not understand using a top 5 pick on him unless you say Im drafting strictly on potential and ok with him being a complete bust. There is no feel for the game offensively or defensively. He cant shoot. And lets be real the size is just average for his position. He can only play the 3, the wing span is good not elite. His touch around the rim should show you enough.

No offensive ir defensive feel for the game? I could not disagree with you more. If you scouted and came to your conclusion, you don't. You pick him top 5 if you think you are off base on most of what you said. Did you watch this scouting video? If you think he's closer to accurate scouting than you, that's why you pick him top 5.

His entire offensive game is head down and go to the rim. That means there is no feel, all athelticism. Defensively he can be good on ball, but he doesnt make good rotations, doesnt play 2 on 1s where he is the 1 guarding two in a rotation setting, not great at backside help at the rim but i think he can eventually be that. Idk what youre looking at here that makes him have good feel.

@sportsandstuff99 Almost everything you are trying to knock him for requires teammates to run plays for him and be effective in their roles and he is one of the youngest players in draft playing in a professional league on a terrible roster with almost no support. Asked to do everything and then some. I saw him show very impressive development in creating his own shot and offence against higher level comp than essentially anyone else in draft. You are looking for effective, polished plays requiring effective teammates he didn't have. Most are looking at the abilities he's demonstrating that can translate to a league with elite supporting talent and top tier coaching. Hes got a ton of impressive defensive feel, it's shown in this video, did you watch? He showed a lot of dynamic offensive ability far more than putting his head down and driving.

@@sportsandstuff99He is not such a boom or bust player, he has a decent floor and a high ceiling. He'll be a good NBA defender that can fill a role offensively at worst. His free throw ability and jump shooting mechanics show he has real potential to be an average NBA 3 point shooter. I'd be surprised if he were ever above average, but he doesn't need to be to be a good player. In this draft he should be top 5.

I think Sarr, Topic, Risacher, Buzelis, Castle, Dilly, Sheppard, and Knecht all have higher floors than Holland. And then Sarr, Topic, Risacher, Castle, and Buzelis all imo will reach a higher level than Holland even if Holland starts to click in the league. That is why I wouldnt consider him top 5. What are you describing with Holland is how I feel about Castle but Castle has shown me incredible feel, even in HS.

Your videos are the best out there, keep it up. But you clearly have a really hard time quitting guys who you are high on going into the season. I gave you the same criticism on your Isaiah Collier video. Holland is a bad shooter, with demonstrably poor touch around the basket. He's a great athlete, but completely lacks feel. The numbers, and the game film make this abundantly clear. I get that's a disappointing outcome, and you're caught up with the flashes of upside, but this type of prospect has sky high variance. That Gerald Wallace comp is nuts. Wallace was an elite rebounder in college If he can become a league average shooter, then maybe he can become Kelly Oubre, who is barely above replacement level for his career. If his shot creation improves, maybe he can be Lonnie Walker, who is below replacement level. If his defense improves he can maybe become Jaden McDaniels, who is also below replacement level for his career. Again, you are doing great videos. I just think you need to be prepared to change your mind when someone struggles so obviously
