Ron DeSantis on the Larry Arnn Show

Larry P. Arnn, President of Hillsdale College, sits down with guests of the College to talk about topics of enduring relevance.
In this inaugural episode of The Larry P. Arnn Show, Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn interviews Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In an exclusive one-on-one conversation, the two men discuss themes found in the Governor’s recent book, The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival, and explore how he was able to keep Florida open during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also talk about the Governor’s views on the use of executive power and his role in the education reforms taking place across his state. This interview was conducted on April 6, 2023.

Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.
The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.
By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

    It won't help as long as your vote doesn't really matter. We really only ever have two options. Does your vote really matter in that case? You have to choose the most popular candidate on your side whether you really like them or not. Is that democratic?

  • @Romns1513

    @Romns1513

    @@michaelme1188 I have always struggled with that same idea. Like yes, we can all individually vote, but if you want your values to be represented at least in part, it does feel like we have no choice but to vote for the most popular person in the polls that most closely aligns to our beliefs. And even then, it’s based on electoral votes, which don’t seem fair anymore. I say anymore because I think at some point, they could have been fair. But I don’t trust the way voting districts are drawn these days. I think there’s way too much money involved in the decision-making there, and that it is not always fair to us everyday citizens. I think just going off popular vote could be a more fair way, but we definitely need to eradicate any chance of people cheating and changing electronic votes or putting in fake extra votes as deceased people…. That kinda stuff wrecks democracy too.

    As a young conservative, I'm really hopeful that a conservative can take back the White House in 2024. If that doesn't happen, I think we are going to lose representation in government for a long time. Ron DeSantis is the leader we need. I'm not anti-Trump, but I just don't see him gaining any of the new support he needs to win. It's either we put forward a candidate who upholds our values and can win, or we will lose for a long time.

    Or at least for the next 4 years. I do support Trump a 100 % for president, now, like Mark Levin says, he is really the only one who has the vision, the stature to save the country ( and the world?) right now , he is the primus motor. DeSantis slowstarted on the restrictions, understandable , most leaders fell for it completely. Trump wasn't successful against the deep state in the end( unless he let go , to show the people what the reality of the agenda was , in order to incite the awakening). Trump tried to promote hydrochloroxine, tried to resist lockdowns and got booed down. Still I don't understand why Trump picks on De Santis; DeSantis is doing great - he could be clearer on his plans on an eventual candidacy for the presidency. There is a timeline of some kind. In don't think Floridians would appreciate DeSantis candidacy right now. He has all the time in the world( also to get more expetience and knowledge) once his mandate runs out to aim higher. Instead he should support Trump , endorse him , in order to secure the primaries, at least .

    That was so wonderful to listen to. I understand now why so much negative gossip about him exists. Clearly they are not used to someone with experience, knowledge, integrity, real time POSITIVE results that were derived from critical thinking and the implementation of laws (where applicable), AND a sincere desire to remain loyal to serving the people (not the corporations) by adhering to the wisdom and principles of the founders. Those who came before us who mindfully crafted (likely divinely inspired) the Constitution which made us a Nation to be admired. I love what little I know about Hillsdale and I am always interested in those who become the center of negative gossip (I tend to assume that when so much push back occurs, it is likely due to a fear of sosmeone speakimg truth to power-almost like garlic to a vampire~so they say). I also appreciate that there was less partisan finger pointing than generally heard (though Kennedy takes the trophy on this so far). One issue that I would love to hear more about how he would handle is foreign policy. A rather big issue at the moment-or is it just another distraction and excuse to continue printing while keeping the.fear.gamr going? Idk. Is there a platform where that is discussed. One like this where he can speak truthfully and finish sentences etc.? Again, many blessings and gratitude for hosting this.

    The last comment from Gov. DeSantis, was spot on: Congress has ceded their power to bureaucracies. Why have Congress when they refuse to do their job? Thankfully it's not too late to rein in that power, and they can start by using the Power of the Purse to instill needed change of behaviors by some bad actors.

At the last DeSantis rally before the 2022 election Gov. DeSantis called up Pastor Tom Ascol, Grace Baptist Church of Cape Coral, FL and Founders Ministry, to pray. At Gov. Ron DeSantis' second inauguration Pastor Tom Ascol offered the invocation.

We all loved her courage accepting what possible outcome would be her own. Profound wisdom from a really young woman truly inspired and did comfort those even younger than her AND THOSE MUCH OLDER. we ADORE her love and care for the mothers she manifested at that moment in time

    One of the great mistakes of the constitution was not having the senators appointed by the governors with the approvial of their respective legislatures with a provision for recall by the same to make it clear the senators were to represent the state governments to prevent the federal government from taking over states issues.

He adds details about his history, thought processes, and his governing style, that complement his public statements. Republicans will love the book. Most independents and libertarians will probably like it. Democrats, leftists, socialists, and communists, will react to DeSantis' book the way an American Patriot would react to "The Communist Manifesto."

    Reagan made a deal with the Ayatollah for Iran to hold onto the hostages longer so Carter would look bad. What an absolutely horrible thing to do to hostages and this country. Reagan only cared about his own kind, not everybody. His second term he was an Alzheimer's patient. Years later, his staff finally acknowledged that they had covered up for it years (which proves THEIR lack of patriotism and putting politics over country). But people like you won't change. He could have murdered ten children and you would excuse it. As for JFK, well he was before my time and judging him retrospectively just isn't the same.
