Ron DeSantis held up a map of “human faeces” in a bizarre stunt during a televised debate with Gavin Newsom on Thursday night.

The Florida governor took part in a live debate with his California counterpart, in what was dubbed the “Great Red vs Blue State Debate” on Fox News.
Mr DeSantis, who is polling second in the Republican primary race, agreed to debate Mr Newsom in an apparent bid for airtime ahead of the first caucus in Iowa next month.
The event saw the two men argue over which of their states had performed better on various economic and social metrics, and discuss the 2024 presidential election between Joe Biden and the yet-to-be-decided Republican nominee.
During the debate, Mr DeSantis held up a printed map of what he said were “human faeces” on the streets of San Francisco in an attempt to discredit Mr Newsom’s record on sanitation.
“This is a map of San Francisco,” he told viewers. “There's a lot of plots on that. You may be asking: ‘What is that plotting?’

Yeah well I worked in Philadelphia and I know that a lot of people, perhaps not mentally well, used to lean their backs up against buildings pull their pants down and poop right there on the ground. I saw it all the time it's not just California.

Newsom walked into a hostile house and walked out with all the cash and the pipes in the walls. Was fun to watch. Best part was Hannity trying to extend it and both of them were nah we have better things to do.

@hgmvhf Best part was when Desantis informed everyone that Newsom's inlaws move from California to Florida and donated to his campaign. Newsome tried to talk over him but failed miserably.

The bizarre bit is that he's right. The other bizarre bit is the way this has been framed.
Luckily for Newsom that Desantis didn't show a map of the Sacramento area or else it would have shown the biggest turd living near there.
Bizarre stunt? I'm a Californian and have seen the human crap on the streets! I tried driving to a meeting in downtown Los Angeles and had to avert my eyes due to a man literally squatting and taking a dump as I drove past!

This isn’t bizarre at all! The most insane experiences on tour have all been in San Fran! Homeless man throwing batteries at me! Gang fights in a diner! Getting chased by a homeless woman sucking on a crack rock with her nether regions hanging out telling us she is Janet Jackson, people wearing plastic tarps as jeans literally walking around in their own feces! Another world!

Here in nyc homeless push people in front of subway trains and here everyone has to use the train. So Mayor Adam's was forced to finally start taking them off the streets

Not really. Newsome needs to set his priorities straight and fix California instead of going on to TV for a useless debate. His 10 year plan to stop homeless was not a good look for him. We are on year 15 and homeless got even worse.

Native Californian, makes me sick how the Governor of our state could laugh at such a serious problem as this. This is a true statement with many more problems on that map. Unfortunately, this is true. I have seen this personally. Homeless drug addicts just drop their pants mid gait and defecate on the sidewalk and then walk on almost without missing a step. It would almost be balletic if it were not so tragic. But it is most certainly not unusual.
The FACTS show that DeSantis on every measure is much, much better at leading his state than Newsom is. Newsom has given California higher rates of violent crime, poverty, adverse health outcomes, mortality, homelessness whilst DeSantis has led Florida well and delivered improved living standards. The contrast is clear. DeSantis wins by a mile.
