Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway 15/09/2022

"Kent's Mainline in Miniature", the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has begun cycling down its intensive timetables as the colder weather is on the horizon, and the new school year starts.
The railways Green timetable would be in effect for the day, which sees four locomotives take charge of services over Romney Marsh for the 13 & 1/2 mile run between Hythe and Dungeness. The roster provided a pleasant mix of traction, as British, North American, German and Diesel outline traction would be represented. The marginally less intense timetable allowed a touch more flexibility in the choice of locations, while trialing some different vantage points, and witnessing both Hythe and New Romney turntables in action.
In addition, No8 "Hurricane" would feature on display at New Romney, complete with the Royal Saloon and a commemorative wreath, with respect to the passing of her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Locomotives:
RH&DR Krupp Pacific Class - No11 "Black Prince"
RH&DR 'North American' Pacific Class - No9 "Winston Churchill"
RH&DR Diesel Class - No12 "J.B. Snell"
RH&DR Pacific Class - No3 "Southern Maid"
All footage filmed on Thursday the 15th of September 2022.

Thank you so much; this brought back many memories, most of them happy; my Mother's family came from Saltwood and some stayed in the area - one of my aunts had a garden that backed onto the railway at Hythe and so from about 1933 onwards I spent much of the summer holidays there. When services resumed after the war I was about fourteen and made friends with the manager who arranged for me to spend a day with Driver Bob Hobbs on Hercules - a mighty 4-8-2 - -and what a dream for a schoolboy in 1946. Really happy memories, thanks again.
Oh here we go again, heart in mouth moment, those rails!!!!! I'm glad you find yourself drawn back here it's always a pleasure to watch. Enjoyed this one, cracking loco shots and lots of your usual in between moments. Excellent half hour enjoyment, thanks Matthew👍👍👍

Glad you enjoyed it, Bob! It's always a pleasure to visit, and for once with a slightly more relaxed approach.
Idk what KZread has done but it never gave me a notification for you video! (and I have the bell on!) but I'm so glad I found it! Omg! Black Prince is stunning! This is such an amazing railroad and your videos always are amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for another fine video of the R.&H.D.R., my favourite 15"-gauge line. Best wishes Dirk

Glad you enjoyed it, cheers
Thank you. Just found this and looking forward to much more. I am unable to travel these days so this brought back happy memories
All Aboard. All Aboard. Enjoy the ride.
Thumbs up 👍👍👍
You're a really useful railway.
You're a really useful engine.
Looks fun but with rails like that i shudder to think what injuries a derailment at those speed would cause
Sir Topham Hatt the Railway Controller.
I first heard of the RH&D way back around the 1960's but have never had the pleasure of seeing any videos until this one. I really love the railway and the beautiful little Pacifics, especially Black Prince and Southern Maid. I was surprised by the long trains, the speed and the horrible track. Is the railway on it's last legs and under financed? I noticed most cars ran empty so assume there's little financial aid.
Brilliant video my friend like and Greetings 🙋🏽♂️

Thank you
Some fantastic filming here, watched it several times and enjoyed every moment! But....echoing previous comments.....I think they are playing with fire running so fast on that track. Its in a shocking state, apart from the greatly increase threat of potential derailment, I hate to think of the unnecessary damage it does to loco springs, drive gear etc....I really surprised that they are allowed to run in this condition...
So Sad to see the line is such poor condition overgrown permanent way so distorted and worn out the engines have a job to stay on the line, Captain Howey would turn in his gave to see his great creation in this state. Sign of the times I suppose.😪
What I find ironic about this is that the American locomotive is named Winston Churchill. Not an American president? Anyways great video full of very useful little engines. Subscribed about 3 years ago and don't intend to unsubscribe ever.

As ironic as it is, it is with good reason. The renaming of No9 from "Doctor Syn" to "Winston Churchill" took place in 1948, for the locomotive to attend an exhibition in Canada; at a time when post-war patriotism and national pride were high. Couple that with the fact that the locomotive was representing Britain having been built in the UK, rather than commemorating the North American effort. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Actually based on a Canadian Pacific design, nothing to do with the USA at all.

Regular line speed of 20-25mph, which equates to a scale speed of 75mph.

@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Thnx for this info.
Those rails are in an appalling state. I hope it's not an issue of money. Hope they sort them out soon.
Hunting for parade spots??
