Being honest, as a fierce Shakespeare lover, I hate how much Fellowes deferred from the original text. Romeo and Juliet is one of the most beautiful plays ever written, and the language is a huge part of that. However, I cannot deny that I do love this version, because it’s so pretty, and the music is stunning.

I'm a fierce Shakespeare lover too and I have a particular fondness for R&J because it was my first play (that's me as Benvolio in my profile pic). However, Romeo and Juliet as story already existed in many forms centuries before Shakespeare so it doesn't belong to him and this film is under no obligation to be faithful to his version. Honestly the fact that they had the balls to do their own original version of this folk tale for the first time in centuries since Shakespeare is one of my favourite things about this film. It was about time we got another version.

At the very least they didn't do a cultural approximation like what they did now.. so anything else in my eyes is better..

They nailed the Twin Flame soul recognition moment. The one people refer to as "love at first sight".

The song at the very end where Benvolio puts their hand together is called Eternal love. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful.

What version is this soundtrack?, Its not on the main playlist and The Forbidden Love one is different with a bit of a higher key

I though this version was good. The only problem I had was the actors didn’t look their ages. They didn’t look young like the actors in the 1969 version. But despite that, I still enjoyed it and thought Hayley and Douglas had great chemistry.
