Lukaku loves to score in his debut

What you and everyone fails to mention during the game against Croatia in the 22 WC is that belgium played utter shite the whole turnament, he singlehandedly turned Belgium into a good mood again, yes he did fail many occasions which did break our hearts, but he came in, still not fully recovered from his injury trying to help his country and turned us into a better side, so i would not even blame him, there are plenty of other players to blame it on, but not lukaku.

That is true to some extent. Lukaku was the scapegoat for a generation of talent that was on its last legs. But you cannot deny that his individual performance in that match against was a complete catastrophe. After this match all anyone could talk about was the failures of Lukaku alone. So yes, unfair, but it was the reality!

@@DMac__ I'm Belgian and most of my friends who watched that game agreed that Lukaku played a decent game. You see, before he came on, we literally created nothing. Lukaku was ALWAYS in the exact right spot at the exact right time, which led to him getting a lot of clear cut chances. He didn't convert them but without him we wouldn't have had a single decent chance the entire game

A lot of people hyper focus on the negatives for him. He is not Ronaldo but he is a decent goalscorer

@@octoxicbeballin as inter fan i agree, but he fails the big matches (at least for the inter period, for what I've seen). Not only CL and EL final, but he never scored against Juventus, the strongest opponent during those years. Actually he finalized 2 penalties, but no goal outside that. The most important goal he finalized at inter was that one against Porto last season. And I've never hold grudge against him before this summer: he left but he brought decent money, he came back and we forgave him. But the last summer betrayal with Inter struggling about money and still wanting to permanently sign him really turned everyone furious. Fans, society (who had intention to sign him, but at different terms) and players. Like the whole group except the news coinvinced the society to dismiss the offers, and preferred 2 old declining strikers (sanchez and arnautovic).

Hes not just Belgium's all time top scorer- hes number 7 on the list of all time international scorers, just above Lewandoski and Neymar. Hes only 6 goals away from being top 5 of all time. Its truly impossible to say in a single sentence how good or bad his career has been, whatever position you take theres about 50 points you could make to argue against it.

To be fair he brought some of the hate on himself by being disloyal to about every club he ever played for. After all he seems to be a very sensitive player who needs a good relationship with his coach/club/teammates to perform well. On the other hand his ambition (and maybe also greed?) made him commit to some questionable decisions. He prolly should've stayed at Inter the first time around...

Ehm no ... Only the goal against Porto in the round of 16, otherwise he made no contribution with reaching the final. A penalty scored with Benfica i truly wouldn't count that as contribution. Inter had 2 HUGE chances to go 1 nil up before Lukaku came in that final. One Barella shot wide when the keeper wasn't in the area and Two Lautaro one on one against the keeper couldn't convert

Lukaku is by far the most mentally strong player ever. He has had so much misfortunate in his career, and yet he always returns. He never gives up. He even becomes a better player from the hate he recieves. That deserves nothing but respect.

Throughout his entire career, even in his earlier days at Everton, he's had issues with dissapearing in big games. I'm an Everton fan, and Lukaku had a tendency of destroying smaller teams and just fading out of bigger games. Off the ball he wasn't great. Thing is, he would still have been a great striker for these teams if he didn't do ridiculous things like intentionally antagonizing his old fanbases, kissing other teams badges, etc...

100% agree with this assessment. Certainly not the most aesthetically pleasing striker who had a habit of going missing in crucial games. I think the overwhelming criticism, however, stems from his antagonising behaviour on and off the pitch across various clubs throughout his career.

@@ness-ee Good question. There are a few things he did- one of the main things is the way he treated the club after he left. He kissed the United badge and shushed our fans after scoring against us a few weeks after leaving. Every time he went on international duty, he would hold interviews talking about how Everton wasn't big enough for him, and he wanted to move. He hurt us financially by refusing to move to Chelsea because Chelsea weren't willing to match United's agent fees (which to be fair is more likely his agent) but this forced us to accept Uniteds bid. He stole a penalty from Baines and missed it, then refused to apologise to Baines, he stopped putting in any effort off the ball or pressing, and since leaving Everton he's made really negative comments about the club. Compare this to someone like Richarlison, or Rooney. If Lukaku behaved in a more respectful manner, he'd be loved by Inter and Everton fans I imagine.

To be fair to the man, he actually had a good game against city in the final. It wasn't his fault that Dimarco's header landed on him and he actually was the only one that seemed to try threatening the opposition.

You forgot to mention how Diego Carlos assaulted him from behind when he was about to go one-on-one didn't receive a second yellow and the fact that he kicked the ball that deflected his leg and the fact that scored a goal against Liverpool in EFL cup final that was ruled offside but he was on site

Not sure why foreigners keep on bringing up his missers vs croatia. You'll be hard pressed to find a belgian who holds that against him. We appreciate him always being in the right places even when he misses some shockers now and then. Most strikers are incapable of being in the right place on the right time. Lukaku is always there. and we appreciate what he has done for belgium. Well, most of us do. there are always some weirdos. He is the best ever belgium striker. And as far as leadership from a striker, only Ceulemans and Wilmots lifted us up similarly.
