Rome underground: San Clemente Basilica
Ойын-сауық
🔸Let’s explore the Basilica of San Clemente, only a few steps away from the Colosseum!
🔸We will explore it while no one else is there, outside of visitors’ times! So it will be only you, us and the basilica 🤩
🔸This basilica is dedicated to Saint Clement, the third pope after Saint Peter!
🔸During your visit you’ll end up exploring three levels
🔸Each of them is very different and belongs to a different era from the other. It’s like a proper lasagna of history! 😜
🔸Please note that it is normally not allowed to make videos in this site. However the basilica has been so kind to allow Live Virtual Guide inside this archaeological site during closing times! 🤩

I listened to a podcast this morning which mentioned this ancient site in Rome and luckily I found your video once I got home. Very well done! Thanks for bringing a piece of Rome to us!
Greax Video!! The steady camera, your informative dialogue, all of it was excellent and very professionally done. I also loved that you added a little humor here and there to keep things light. Great job!!! I did notive that the lower we went the narrower the passageways and also the arched ceiling in the pass through areas. Very sturdy construction.

Last time I visited San Clemente there was no window above the Labican stream!
🕊️❤️✨💥
If I remember there is what is believed to be the actual house of st clement
Grazie. Molto interessante. Mi dica se quest'informazione e` scritto nella chiesa oppure siete una bomba della storia? Di nuovo grazie. 😊
For those wondering it translates to son of a (rhymes with) gore
Wonderful! But classical music in the background, per favore…
We visited this place in 2010. It was one of the places that was most fascinating to me, and it’s wonderful to see it again. I don’t remember seeing a lot of the areas this video shows. I wish I could go back and see it again. One suggestion-the background “music” is IRRITATING and badly represents the video. Why not feature more classical music in the background that is fitting for what we are seeing?
How do they build on top of without collapsing within the ones below?

Usually they either fill the buildings below with ground, or add pilasters to support the structure above
who else got hungry after watching this video?
If there was already a church, why did they build another one on top of it? 🤦♂️
