ROME Travel Guide: Essential Do's and Don'ts for First Timers

ROME Travel Guide: Essential Do's and Don'ts for First Timers
I am seriously so excited to be presenting this because it is my first time in Italy, EVER! Therefore, I will be experiencing everything in Rome for the first time. From the amazing Italian food, to the numerous MONUMENTAL historical sights, Rome present to you history on steroids. Therefore, if you are into Roman history - this city will definitely be your wet dream.
However, all isn't rosy though. Scammers, pick pockets and a city struggling with serious social issues presents a challenge to safety, My guard was up at ALL TIMES making sure I never ever put anything in my back pocket.
Ultimately, Rome is a global tourist city with similar issues as most others on the same league. So how do you cope as a first timer? We explore all this in the video.
Enjoy!

Pick pockets everywhere.... beware! Many varied people do it not just those mentioned in this video. Just be cautious at all times and don't carry anything in your back pockets. Pick pocketing can not only occur in crowded tourist places but also on the local trains, Ryan So Fly:-

Yes you were so wise to visit out of season. You can imagine Rome in July and August with the crowds and the heat.

Indeed... Popular tourist cities like this one would be crazy in summer. That being said, I'm heading back to Europe in June. Hopefully it won't be crazy.

The seedy scammer reputation of Rome precedes itself. So I was on guard the entire time and sadly there was no escaping the crowd, mostly. Especially on the older narrow cobblestone streets, you can see why so many get their pockets picked because it is so easy to lose your situational awareness.

I love watching your videos. What type of camera do you use to film your videos? What software app do you use to edit your KZread videos and is it free to use? Do you use your phone or laptop to do your video editing? Whilst you film your videos, do you use tripod or selfie stick - what brand is it? I am still learning on how to film and edit my travel videos. Any advice would be very helpful😊

Hi mate, thanks for tuning in. I've been using a GoPro hero 8 for a couple of years now and I edit my videos using Filmora Wonder share, which is a paid service. The GoPro comes with a tripod and that's what I use, plus a Xiaomi Note 9s for other close up video footage. I also travel with a DJI Mini SE drone and I fly it where legally possible during my travels, and you'll see snippets of it in this series. I'm in the process of looking at something outside the GoPro for dark shots because while the camera is great in daytime, it struggles in low light.

I think for many, one visit to Rome will suffice. However, a return trip or two or three more to Italy is very common because there is so much more beauty and incredible experiences awaiting such as the Amalfi Coast, the Lake Como district, the Italian Alps, Florence, and Milan to name a few.

Ryan, when I was younger the first thing I pre-read (in order) was the scams, where the locals eat, public transport and public toilets.... all true. I was able to avoid the taxi and lost wallet cons in Rome and later the Russian 'Natashas' in Athens. I say YES to your comment "Been there, done that, tick the box and move on" too crowded.

  • @ryansofly

Yes, the bloody scams. Many warned me before we made that trip. So when I arrived, my guard was already up at the airport making sure NOTHING was anywhere near my back pocket. I really hated this feeling, add on a layer of jet lag... It was exhausting. I was relieved to be back at the hotel, to be honest. Hahahaha...

I didnt realize why Italians in Australia liked concrete backyards until I went to Rome; it was 36 degrees when we were there too (bloody hot), We ask for a ham and pineapple pizza in Florence and we got 1 pizza with pineapple rings and 1 pizza with ham slices. Close enough! Historically Rome is great but we saw beggars everywhere,

  • @ryansofly

    @ryansofly

Hahahahaha... so you had 2 pizzas. I really cannot imagine visiting Italy in summer, really. If this is low season, I dare not imagine what it would be like with the crowds and heat. Yeah once you've conquered the sights, Rome was rather depressing with the grafitti, cigarette butts and homeless refugees sleeping rough at every other street. Don't even get me started on the smell of pee here and there... LOL.

Friendly to Chinese, I can understand why because they spend $$$ like there's no tomorrow. I'm generalising here, but they've been known to dislike Americans because they walk up to restaurants and ask for shit like fettuccine Alfredo or pineapple with their pizzas. 🤣
