Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion Tip - How to Prevent Enemies Forming Hordes

Ойындар

Quick guide on how to destroy rival factions without triggering a horde in RTW BI. In short, focus on their generals and family members, not conquering their territory. It's important to remove the last family members on the same turn or the AI will be offered more to adopt.

Its like breaking something and leaving it for the next person to fix, creating more hordes to cause havoc is awesome lol

I just started to put my western Roman Empire together on the 4th try and things were looking good but then a horde came I freaked out and I set up defenses on the side there coming from but to my surprise they walked right by the garrison and attacked Rome but failed then there was one major army left and 2 smaller ones and they marched to France and conquered a small city. Then I destroyed that city 20 turns later then another horde appeared beside the city I freaked out then they marched for Spain and conquered a rebel city and built 2 full stacks somehow they attacked the 2 closest settlements of my empire and failed now I’m trying to do this thing this vid is telling me I hope it works

That's helpful. I was replaying this game and playing a Hun campaign and captured Constantinople along with the rest of the Balkans when the AI decided killing the same factions over and over would justify spamming like 2-3 hordes over and over. It seems even if you work on killing them asap., they sometimes still can snatch a settlement from another AI faction, which makes this mechanic really annoying, it becomes a never ending cycle if you can't effectively kill all their stacks in a few turns. It somehow emulates the way hordes migrated during the Hunnic invasions irl. because sometimes those hordes decide to just take a neighboring settlement and leave yours alone entirely. But the really annoying thing, you need to focus on killing off factions separately solely because of this one mechanic, even if your economy would allow for taking on several factions and expand faster if it wasn't for the endless horde spawns. Imo. Total War: Attila got better gameplay mechanics regarding nomadic factions even though Rome 2 wasn't the best Rome all-around.

Is this fixed in remastered or something? I tried this 4 times now and all times the general was the last 1 standing, starting to feel like the general can't die unless he's last if it's their last citu

What if you finish the same battle on the same turn after killing all their family members on the field?

Basically, I think you can do this, you just don’t want to take over the city if it is still considered to be part of a hoarding faction. Killing off all the family members will eliminate the faction, but if you take over the city in the same fight after killing off all the family members (ie you haven’t returned to the campaign map and haven’t seen you’ve eliminated the faction) they will respawn as hoard units which will be bad. If you kill off all the family members in a battle, then retreat and the faction still isn’t destroyed, they have an additional family member somewhere.

taking down hordes is quite easy with a few spearmen and/or heavy infantry (+ at least one heavy cavalry is good for taking down enemy morale with charge but not required if not severely outnumbered). dont defend the walls, just chokepoints on the streets. 6-7 units total should be enough against 3 full stacks if the composition is right, at least with both roman factions. with huns however should protect the walls as their infantry sucks and they have too much heavy cavalry.

Nah, its the fact that they all are full of horse archers, your archers often suck and general bodyguards are like 15 attack 25 defence 2hp with no phalanx and spearmens with underwhelming attack values.

wrong, hordes are awesome because they add a little chaos (and therefore replayability) to the gameplay. no two campaigns containing hordes will ever proceed quite the same

The issue is, the reason why it is called an exploit, you can't commit regicide in a conquest. It has to be an attempted conquest

It doesn't work if you don't have horse archers, or it doesn't work if you don't have a numerically superior horde. You will lose a lot of soldiers for example if you attempt to do that as Lombardy, which you cant afford to lose. For that reason, I prefer making them horde. They will weaken the Italian and Iberian countryside while I move down to Anatolia, Iberia and Britannia.
