We just talked about this in Bible study last night. We were not agreed on committing sin. This is really eye opening and explains every question I had! I became a Christian as a child. I have struggled with sin (addiction) for years. I did not want to justify my sinning but I had no idea how to understand what was going on inside me. I hated, still hate, when I sin. This is an amazing video! Thank you God for allowing me to understand!

Thank you very much, Rachel, for the wonderful testimony. I have shared it with the team. It already makes all the workhours worth it. We praise the Lord for his goodness and that he still opens our spiritual eyes. We wish you a lot of joy in your continued journey of sanctification for his Holiness. He is worthy.

I do not want to sound legalistic, but feeling bad about doing something wrong does not mean that you hate doing that thing. It's just your conscience and the HS. If you really hate doing wrong you will not do it. If you love God with all your heart, you will not put your desires and feeling ahead of Him like Adam and Eve in the garden. If we are born-again, we will be lead by the Spirit and will come to a point in our lives where we will cease to sin (1John 3:6-10). Jesus as man never sinned because He was constantly being led by the Spirit of God (Hebrews 2:14-18; Hebrews 4:14,15, Matt 4:1). Christ is our example and He expects us to overcome sin in the flesh as He did (Rev 3:21,22). The key is to be born-again (total surrender to Jesus)and heed the voice of the Spirit. 1John 3:4-10 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. Romans 7 is the life of someone who was convicted of sin but not born again or lead by the Spirit. Contrast that with Chapter 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Let us stop making excuses for sin but instead let us call upon God to give us the power thru' His Spirit to live a life of righteousness or right-doing, the opposite of sin/breaking God's Law.

If we die to self we become free from sin through christ death. Sin no longer rules us. But we most as jesus said deny our self pick up cross and fallow him Deny self= die to self Pick up cross= stay dead to ego(self conciousness) and humble come to jesus to do the work.

Thank God for having Paul write this and for people like you preaching it correctly, the Bible means what It says and says what It means. So many want to twist this scripture out of context but it means SO much for new Christians to understand this, why they still sin I was having so much doubt and struggle until I read this years ago and also that our bodies are slaves to sin but our spirits are slaves to righteousness.

Paul says he is a slave to sin in Romans 7. And in Romans 6 he says we are no longer slaves to sin. So if when we are born again we a no longer slaves to sin.... how did Paul after he vacate a follower of Jesus on the road to Damascus somehow become a slave to sin again? You left out of your statements the very strong statement that Paul’s say he is a slave to sin? Rom 7 is Paul’s testimony and it all fits together, before Christ Paul was clearly a slave to sin as described in Romans 7. The. Salvation thank be to God who freed me.

Thank you for sharing that. In verse 1 of Romans 7 Paul says he is speaking to those who know the law (the Jews) . I believe he is putting himself in the place of a Jew who has not yet accepted Christ and is not living by the spirit. The understanding in this video, which is probably the most common, contradicts the chapter before and the chapter after. Consider Romans 6:14-16, 18, 22 (KJV) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

@crosspaint there are other religions that want to do God's will but can not because they lake the power. As true beleivers we have the power to do God's will not just desire. The law of death has the desire but no way to do. So do Muslims and jews... faith without works is dead. The desire is measly the outward working of God not yet the inward working of a changed heart.

But our soul is not saved or sinless .....it is constantly being saved and renewed! It is with the mind of the soul or flesh ...we live sinful lives because all of our choices reside in the will power of the soul ...hence Rom7:25 Now as sons and daughters of God we must with our own mind or (soul) ...choose to serve the mind of our born again spirit... who is guided by the Holy Spirit!!! So if I hate my sin one moment and like it another moment, do I have Jesus in me? Are we suppose to hate it every single time? I'm talking about the impurity inside my mind. It seems to be a battle every day. I remember scripture, pray daily, repent and read the Bible every day. I can also hear the devil and his demons from things I've done in my past. I've been struggling, but my walk with Christ is new. My life is confusing.

In Romans 7, Paul recounted his struggles under the Law while still seeking a deliverance, which he found in Jesus. In Romans 7:14 he clearly identified himself as being in bondage to sin, so he is not talking of his experience as a born again or saved person, or a "new creature in Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:17) so to speak. So, Romans 7 should never be used to explain that a Christian is continuing to live in sin. That's ignoring the foundation for the Christian life laid out in all of Romans 6, and missing the transition from Romans 7 to Romans 8:1 where the apostle Paul speaks of being in Christ Jesus and under no condemnation, not walking according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Only then is he talking of his life as a Christian, having been delivered from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). That is the exact opposite of the situation in Romans 7:23 where he spoke about being in captivity to the law of sin working in his members. Romans 7:14-25 is about the apostle Paul's experience when he was still in sin and lost and seeking a deliverance. He did find in Jesus his deliverance / salvation / freedom from sin (John 8: 31-36, Romans 6:7, 18). 1 Peter 2:21-25 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps, 2 who “committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth.” 23 Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously; 24 who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, *that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness;* by whose wounds you were healed. 25 For you were going astray like sheep; but now have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. To help you come out of the confusion you feel that there is in your life, please see the videos in my playlist called _"Be Set Free From Sin". _ Take some time to understand well the way you need to approach God. Your obedience to God is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in (Hebrews 5:9). Peace to you!

The Bible teaches us that we have three enemies that we must face in our lives: the Devil, the world, and the flesh. Each of these enemies poses a unique challenge, but with the help of God, we can overcome them. First, there is the Devil, who tempts us with things that are not of God. But as 1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." And, as Jude 9 reminds us, "But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a railing judgment upon him, but said, 'The Lord rebuke you!'" It's important to call upon God for help and resist the devil, as stated in James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." 🙏 🌍 Second, there is the world and its systems and temptations that can lead us towards sin and away from God. 1 John 2:15 states, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." And 1 John 2:17 reminds us that "And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." Third, there is the flesh, the battle of the self-life and the Christ-life. Galatians 5:17 says, "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." This old nature cannot please God. It cannot be converted, or even patched up. But as Romans 6:11 reminds us, "So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." This is done by faith. It is crucial to remember that we are not alone in this battle, and through faith in God and obedience to His will, we can overcome these enemies. 🙏🙌💪 #backtotheword

The reminder at 2:49 seems like a problem anachronistically. Doesn’t it? Adam and Eve’s problem wasn’t sin, as sin had not entered in until they took the fruit. It was temptation. Maybe defining “sin” as “temptation” would be better, no?

They described our sin nature as the reason Adam and Eve sinned. But with Adam and Eve that wasn't their nature until they sinned. I agree that they were still tempted as Jesus was, but failed where Jesus didn't. And that's why the 2nd Adam is greater than the first (Rom. 5)!

Don't misunderstand, I like the video. I'm not sure I agree with the statement at 3:54 about you only having one identity and "it's not like you have a split personality with an OLD SELF and a NEW SELF." I'm going to differ with that statement. You do have and "old man and a new man" and you can choose which one you yield to and serve. The old man although "crucified with Christ" is still very much active in all believers and is on of the 3 enemies of the believer along with the other two being the world and the devil. James 1:8 indicates that a Christian can be "double minded" which literally means to have "two souls "or two ways of thinking going on inside. That Christian with "two souls" is unstable spiritually for certain and really mentally as well and will not have their prayers answered. Their lives will be one defeat after another. If that's not in essence a "split personality" of sorts I don't know what is. The Christian is admonished to "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." and in Romans 12:1,2 to be "transformed by the renewing of your mind". We still have things in our minds after salvation that are inconsistent with the Christian life that we need to learn to get rid of or to change. I understand that as far as God is concerned the "old man" is "crucified with Christ" judiciously, but I can tell you from personal experience your old man can be yielded to and it doesn't like staying on the cross!!! The ruined lives of thousands of Christians including Pastors of churches attest to that reality! Living the Christian life goes against everything the world, the flesh, and the devil stand for and all 3 will fight you tooth and nail. If you don't experience that fight I would doubt you are a Christian at all. Ephesian 4:22-24" That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."

I thought the spirit of life in Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death. Notice that Paul mentions the Law of Moses many times in Romans 7:14-25 (six times). Christians are not under the Law of Moses, since they have died to it in Christ as he stated earlier in the chapter. Most probably Christians struggle with sin and the Law since they don't realize they are no longer under it. Paul makes it clear in Romans 8 we have been set free from this law of sin and death by the spirit if life in Christ. We are not to try and be justified by keeping the Law.
