ROMANIA: Sighişoara, wooden covered staircase (Scholar's Stairs)
Sighisoara, Romania - the medieval, wooden staircase of Sighişoara. Let's visit Scholar's Stairs which is an historic site in Sighişoara, Romania. The Stairs were built in 1642 to connect the lower and upper parts of the citadel in Sighişoara. The main purpose was to allow people to reach the church and the school easily in winter time, obviating the problems caused by the snow. When the Stairs were constructed, they had 300 steps. Only 176 steps remain. When the weather is nice, musicians play guitar near the entrance to the Stairs on both ends.
The Stairs in Sighisoara are considered an architectural jewel. They provide access to the Church on the Hill, as well as the oldest school in the city center.
Sighișoara is a city on the Târnava Mare River in Mureș County, Romania. Located in the historic region of Transylvania, Sighișoara has a population of 28,102 according to the 2011 census. It is a popular tourist destination for its well-preserved walled old town, which is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Beautiful! It seems the congregation petitioned the church for protection from the elements when traveling to and from worship. Must have been tough in the wintertime. 🙏🏼✌️

I walked through the cemetery twice, for nice views of the walls, I wanted to make a video of it but unfortunately I ran out of time...
I recommend you and..salt mine ..Salina Turda -Cluj!.. one of the most beautiful salt mine in the world!
