Romania - Mysterious Land of Legends 🇷🇴

This video is about more than Dracula. For Romania has more legends than just the story written by an Irishman. Romania is home to 60% of Europe's brown bears. You can see them off of the highway, on tourist excursions, or at a sanctuary. We did the latter. We experienced Libearty Bear Sanctuary Zarnesti (Rezervația De Urși Libearty Zărnești). Dinosaurs are known from Romania at both ends of the Cretaceous period. We'll explore the valley where the first dinosaur fossils in Romania were discovered at Dino Park, Râșnov, România. By the end of this video, we will cover more than the Legend of Dracula; but it's still the best place to start. Specifically Bran Castle in Bran Romania. We will separate the history from the myths. We dive into both the intrigue and the magic of this wonderful country. Welcome to Romania. The Mysterious Land of Legends.
In case you are new here, we are Will and Katy and we are a married couple that hopes to show you what it is like to travel and shop around the world in 2023!

I'm Romanian and I go to Zarnesti often(btw, Zarnesti area is great for some nice hikes and mountain views, too bad all tourists go to Bran instead), I visited this sanctuary so I feel like clarifying that the bear sanctuary is very good for the bears, they have a lot of forested area to roam around, dozens of hectares, and they hang around the fence when the tours happen because the tours are organized around their feeding time, when they know to come to the fence, this way it's guaranteed you will see bears and there's only like 3hrs for the tours a day. Some of those bears are anxious because of their past. Also, usually outside of summer season it's not quite as packed. I think it's the best sanctuary for brown bears in the world, which makes me happy, we have a lot of bears and before the new laws were introduced in the early 2000s, anyone could just keep a bear for example so you ended up with these traumatized, caged bears and circus bears. Actually, one of the famous bears that ended up in the sanctuary I remember seeing as a child in Sinaia by Peles castle on a leash, u could take pictures with him. Bran is such a kitschy tourist trap

Bran! Love that castle. I remember the road trip from Bucharest to Bran was sooo green and then boom, the iconic castle! That desert looked so tasty, Will. Katy exploring the market is a natural one! Rasnov, what a fantastic place. Best jersey ever haha 16:03 well done! Indeed that bear looked very anxious due to so many people around, at least it's good that it's only opened for 2 hours/day! Another beautiful and super helpful video guys, keep it up!

Bran castle is legit. We area happy we were able to learn the actual history of the place as well as the folklore. Romanian desserts are very good. Being in the market is our wheel-house. Messi in Miami!!! Sad history about the bears, but it was great to be able to see so many there. Some Romanians have commented and said the bears were not anxious from the tourists, but have developed this ticks from their previous trauma at the circus. Thanks Ale!

You’re really selling Romania so well. Wills would love to explore the Dracula story. I know it’s touristy but we’d love to explore that castle. Beautiful drone shots too. The views are stunning. Cool dinosaurs! Love the bear sanctuary. What beautiful creatures. Lovely video guys.

We are very happy that we got to spend so much time in Romania! The Bran Castle was super cool, just a bit too crowded. When you go, maybe try to go first thing in the morning. We went on Monday, and it doesn't open until noon. Other days it opens earlier. Our drone had a wonderful time flying around Romania. 🦖 🐻 Thanks friends! 🍻

Very pleased to see you in Bran, the castle may not have much to do with Dracula but it’s still a spectacular & historical place. Loved the drone shots! Perfect setting for such a spooky looking castle. Perfect timing with this video - Happy Halloween to you both, may all the ghosts and ghouls be with you tonight 🧛‍♂️🎃👻. Rasnov looks well worth a visit, I remember seeing it on a hilltop as I drove by but sadly didn’t have time to stop. I’ll get it next time for sure. Love the synchronised music and drone shots - epic! Looks like there’s lots to do, way more than the castle and fortifications! I can tell you now I wouldn’t cross that fence in the bear sanctuary 🫣. Seems a very popular place for tour groups to visit! Bears are such fascinating creatures and it’s so sad to think how they were treated when they were part of the circus and other shows. Great video! Always good to see more of Romania!!

Happy Halloween! Bran's castle is very historic, but not for the reason most tourists think. Thanks for the love on the drone shots. We wanted more from the front of the castle, but some guard told us to take it down; even though someone else was able to fly just fine. Oh well. Rasnov is a nice place, you should definitely go. Bears are incredible creatures. We are really happy we were able to see so many. And these were definitely not the timid "used to humans" bears you see along the highway. It seems like they are in a much better position than they used to be while being in captivity of the circus. Thanks Matt!

We have been to the city in Poland where every dessert is made of gingerbread, but this was our first time in a life-size gingerbread house. We loved all the castles as well. Most people go to the popular highway to see the bears, but this seems to be a much better environment for the bears. Great question! Thanks!!

The nervous moment of those bears you noticed is much less of a reaction from all the people and more of a tic developed from the time they were held captive and used in circuses, so they keep repeating the same steps around and around as a habit. Those poor guys will usually move like that until they lay down to sleep

@@WITYTRAVELS I was there about 7 years ago and at that time there were less bears and way less people. The group we entered with was very small (tickets and merch were very expensive) and the tour guide kept us in the lobby and did a presentation, they told us the bears’ stories and kept people quiet the whole time and away from the fence. They took in a lot of rescues during the last few years and they’re struggling financially, they spend a lot just to feed the bears daily (I follow them on social media) so they most likely had to compromise on the size of the groups and the lenghth of the presentation and tour. It’s a good thing they at least limit the time still to 2 hours a day. As OP said too most bears are rescued from terrible.situations (circus acts mostly from Ukraine and Russia, we don’t allow that anymore), zoos, “pets” and “mascotte” situations so they don’t act the same as a wild brown bear. I remember two of them from a circus (Misha and Grisha I believe) recently rescued who were sitting just in trees and they were about half the size of what an adult brown bear should’ve been😢 They’re doing much better now I hear.

@@WITYTRAVELS The oldest proof of the "european modern human" were found in Romania, in the "Cave with Bones", near Anina, Caras-Severin. That cave is still being researched. It was naturally sealed until the discovery, that's why they were well preserved. A short passage, but you can search for more info: "In 2002, the oldest modern human remains in Europe were discovered in a cave near Anina.
