They did give a valid reason: the door was unlocked and they heard the TV. They had every reason to suspect he passed out or something.

Would be cool if they added a extra phone message after this event, if you are dating Makoto. Like she sends a quick message to you apologizing for saying they are just friends and she was just nervous in the moment.

It's a shame the characters in game don't acknowledge the fact that your dating someone, especially if they are in your party when you go out on missions, here's hoping in the next game they can add dialogue that can change that, or reflect that

I think it’s implied that Joker is keeping his relationship(s) a secret… or at least trying to. There’s a couple of instances where dialogue at least changes if you’re dating someone in the same cutscene. If you go to Ann’s invitation to Meiji shine, you run into Takemi, who has new dialogue if you’re dating her. I believe something also changes in Haru’s invitation to Harajuku, but I’m not there yet in my repeat playthrough 😅

​@@thirdeye9698 it must be a decision done on purpose to allow the player to do a harem route. P4 already had a little tease with Yukiko and Chie in dungeon dialogue if you had them both as girlfriends but nothing more than that. If relationships were acknowledged by the party then it would be an instantly broken social link (main reason why cheaters don't date 2 people from the same group in the first place)

Even funnier considering they're best friends from waaaay back. Secret dialogue like that could be included but that's why relationships are a secret in persona, so we can fulfill the waifufa****ing fantasy

I wish who you dated changed/removed certain dialogue to make stuff like this feel less awkward. Though one could say that they're just keeping their relationship private.

Honestly I wouldn't expect anything different. The girls make it a point to keep it a secret if they're dating Joker, so Makoto and Ann having no dialogue differences when asked directly if they're dating makes sense. Plus it's better to keep that stuff private when you're dating within a friend group anyways, until you're both ready to tell the rest of them.

@@Kayther33 In a situation like this, lying is the whole point. Telling the truth at a time like this would just complicate the dynamics of the friend group unnecessarily, which is not what they need during the events of the game. Plus it isn't anyone else's business in the first place. If they want to keep their relationship private, they are well within their rights to do so, and the girls do explicitly mention that they do want to keep the relationship private in other parts of the game.

@@SavagePatch115 I get where you're coming from, but at the same time I don't think it would've actually changed that much and honestly I don't think it would've been worth the effort to make such small changes for a situation that most people would never see. Having no changes under the context that the girls want to keep their relationship private just makes the most sense both development-wise and in-universe.

@@corvus9359 As someone who loves rpgs with context sensative dialogue, disagree on all fronts. i was very surprised and moderately dissapointed that a game with such a focus on dialogue and relationships was lacking these exact sort of interations.

I mean! in her defense, she's scared, on the ground, and Sojiro is basically yelling at her. I wouldn't blame her for blurting anything out

I mean at least you can write this one off as Makoto being embarrassed about grabbing his leg When Sojiro asked Ann if she was dating anybody she deadass just went: "Nope! :) Never have, either! :D". So cruel 😔

This actually happened to me in the 3rd semester, only it was with Haru. I dated Haru in my NG+ playthrough of Royal, and when you go check out what her ideal reality is, her dad will ask her if you're her boyfriend, and she tells him not to assume things. That honestly kinda hurt.

I kinda suspect Makoto was still in full on panic mode, g8ven how little she seems to handle spooky stuff

To be fair, Makoto was panicking and or not ready or wanting to tell everyone yet

I would really love if the next game, be it persona 6 or anything else incorporated the dating into the main story, i would’ve really loved to see how Makoto and joker react in every palace if they were dating

I'd imagine Makoto and Joker wouldn't react too differently in the metaverse since they're basically the co-leaders already, but I would love if there were more "little moments" of dialogue difference throughout the game (like your girlfriend reacting to the marriage question towards the end of the game). I have to imagine Makoto's dialogue changes would mostly be in the real life parts of the game, since that's where she's the most awkward and unsure of herself.

Well if they do that the harem route would not be possible. It's kind of sad for people like me who never cheat on the girls, but I understand why we can't have the team to know that you are dating someone. The best solution for me is the text message after the event that will give what we want without restraining haremers

Friendzoned while dating, that’s rough

Well on new game you need both knowledge at rank 4 and have finished kaneshiro's palace to start her social link and then the link pauses at rank 5 until you have maxed out charm. On new game+ it's just about doable because you already have max charm and knowledge and can clear kaneshiro's palace in the minimum number of days. Also with makoto's confidant item you don't have any spend time days. The only other social links that take place in that short of time are shinjiro and aigis.

I love how this event takes place on my birthday lol

I've only ever played P5R with JP voice acting. It was is nice being able to understand the voice acting without the need for subs in this video, but my god the quality of the english voice acting... In a vacuum it might not be bad per se, but put next to the all star cast they got together for the JP voices its a night and day difference in the quality of the acting. I can only assume the English dub team blew most of their budget to get Matt Mercer, he (other than Yuri Lowenthal but Yuri doesn't have the same star power that Matt does) is the only VA of note in the dub cast. Then on the JP side you got Jun Fukuyama who voiced the one and only Lelouch vi Britannia voicing Ren, Nana Mizuki the voice of Hinata Hyuga from Naruto to voice Ann, Mamoru Miyana who voiced Rintaro Okabe from Steins;Gate and Light Yagami from Death Note to voice Ryuji, and this last one I think will be a good place to stop even though I could keep going: Ikue Otani the voice of ASH'S PIKACHU in fucking POKEMON voices Morgana. Like I said, its an all star cast that the english dub team cannot hold a candle to when it comes to the quality of the acting.

Persona 5 games go so hard on put Makoto and Joker in situations where Makoto have to say "we're just friends" that nobody in this world could convince me she's not the Canon girlfriend. Even Strikers have a scene like this.
