WWE Legend Sika Anoaʻi of The Wild Samoans, Father of Roman Reigns, Sadly Passed Away at 79
The WWE Hall of Famer and tag team wrestler, Sika Anoaʻi, died at the age of 79. Sika, real name Polaivao Leati Sika Anoa’i, departed from this world on June 25th. His nephew, Jahrus Anoa’i, shared the news on social media, stating that Sika passed away peacefully. However, the cause of his death was not disclosed.
Jahrus Anoa’i expressed his sorrow on Instagram, stating:
"It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Former Hall of Famer, Polaivao Leati Sika Anoa’i. He passed away peacefully on June 25th. Sika was a celebrated figure whose contributions and legacy have left an indelible mark. His memory will live on through his achievements and the many lives he touched.
"He was many things: a hardworking father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a proud grandfather. He was a cherished friend to many, a loving family member whose warmth and kindness knew no bounds, and an inspiration to countless individuals. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations, reminding us of the impact one person’s life can have on so many. Rest in love Uncle Sika."
Sika Anoa’i gained fame as one-half of the tag team The Wild Samoans, alongside his brother Afa. During his illustrious career, Sika held championships such as the WWF World Tag Team Championship. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.
Born in the village of Leone on the island of Tutuila in American Samoa, Sika moved to San Francisco, California, where he pursued a successful wrestling career after leaving the United States Merchant Marine. His legacy in professional wrestling is significant, particularly within the Anoa’i family. He was the father of professional wrestlers Rosey and current WWE Champion Roman Reigns.
Along with his brother Afa, Sika helped shape the future of the wrestling industry. The Wild Samoans won WWE tag team gold three times and made significant impacts in Mid-South Wrestling, Stampede Wrestling, and many other territories. Sika's final notable appearance was in 2020, when he crowned his son Roman Reigns as the "Tribal Chief," leading to a historic run for Reigns.
