Truly a work of art. Bravo to all the talented artists involved.
References I could find: 0:37 - (Probably not a direct reference but) reminds me of the underwater sculptures of Jason deCaires Taylor at MUSA 1:01 - "Turtle Island" (derived from the creation story) is what some indigenous peoples call North America 1:11 - King Tutankhamun (ruled Egypt as pharaoh for 10 years before dying at age 19) 1:20 - ISIS beheadings incident 1:29 - Ruby Bridges (1960 New Orleans school desegregation) 1:39 - (What we've been dealing with for the past 3 years) 1:46 - The Black Death bubonic plague 2:13 - Neil Armstrong's quote 2:22 - Album cover of Nirvana's "Nevermind" (original photo by Kirk Weddle) 2:28 - Jackson Pollock (actor even resembles him) 2:30 - Ludwig van Beethoven 2:44 - Just 3 notable pieces of writing? 2:54 - Out of the three mentioned, only 1984 by George Orwell was known to be banned and burned. This is probably also a reference to the 1933 Nazi book burnings 3:00 - Self-immolation of Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk in protest 3:12 - Cross burning associated with the Ku Klux Klan 4:07 - "The vulture and the little girl" photograph by Kevin Carter 4:10 - Nazi concentration camps 4:21 - inflatable of Trump in a diaper lol 4:55 - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 4:57 - "Tank Man" at Tiananmen Square, 1989 5:03 - Mahatma Ghandi 5:06 - Fall of the Berlin Wall 5:17 - Debra Austin? 5:26 - Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech 5:28 - Totem Poles (most were carved from cedar) 5:32 - "The Flower Thrower" by Banksy (this was one of my favourite references they made) 5:39 - "Flower Power" and Ieshia Evans during a 1967 protest against the Vietnam War If there are some I missed or any incorrect ones, please let me know

4.24 "Amused itself to death" in front of a TV screen is a reference to Roger Waters classic song "Amused to death". The song takes inspiration from a book of Neil Postman.

Seeing this for the first time ….. very powerful. Well done ROM.
Absolutely stunning!!!!!!!!!! I’m blown away by this cinematic masterpiece.
Would love to see a behind the scenes of this. Surely it wasn't all shot underwater? Incredible film 🙏🙏
Tremendous. An important film, beautifully written and produced.
Saw this yesterday in ROM. 3:24 - 4:06. That battle scene from different ages colliding! What a shot! Like said in Fallout "War, war never changes"

I literally was in tears in this scene for some reason
I really like the IMMORTAL messaging. I like the video, and the way it ties all of time and major anthropocentric events together. Our society is lost in the now and a solipsistic attitude, and this broader historic spectrum is much needed perspective. Sidenote: the ROM must have had one helluva budget to make something like this. The set design, costumes, actors, and production design would have cost close to, if not a million bucks. It will make Mark Zibert's career, and congrats to him on producing it. It hits the mark.
Goosebumps! This is fantastic. Kudos to all involved, this is truly a remarkable film with a powerful message. I hope it brings more people to the ROM and other museums.
It captures the range of the human condition, the good, the bad, the ugly, the inextinguishable.
The most profound advertisement I have ever received.
Incredible. Absolutely stunning message behind this video.
“Amuse ourselves to death” strong msg. Insightful, beautiful, picturesque!

Moving in the extreme. A reminder of what it is to be human on the planet we call Earth. Thank you, ROM. ❤
This is like that Beautiful British Columbia ad had a baby with the Leica 100 ad. Love it. 👌
Simply Amazing! Thank you for allowing me to reflect, with such a wealth of feelings and criticism, and in an enveloping plot of images, referring me to all forms of feelings in this incredible laboratory of emotions, called "ROM IMMORTAL". Simply Amazing!!
This is outstanding. Well done!
wow! cinematic masterpiece!

A beautiful and powerful film. Why the American dollar bill and the Trump balloon? Isn't this a Canadian museum? Surely the film was a Canadian production?

Can't speak to the Trump balloon, but the dollar bill was a clear nod to the famous Nirvana album cover. Also... a loonie would have just sunk straight to the bottom. ;P

Just in case you didn't catch it, it shows that when it says "to sing". It's a recreation of the cover of Nirvana's "Nevermind" album, which has a baby swimming after a US dollar bill on a fishhook.
Great that the ROM is getting political. Makes up for many previous sins, and here’s hoping there’s more of this to come.
@suras8984

A museum doesn't need to get political. I wouldn't call this political either.
Why US currency with aspects of their history. Very little history of Canada and/or Ontario. Sad, a CANADIAN! Museum. Be proud to be Canadian, trumpet that in the video.
