Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II (1979 model), Princess Margret's personal Rolls-Royce.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For some years, we had this 1979 model Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II. It was Princess Margret's personal Rolls-Royce in 1979. It was also restored to its former glory. We chauffeured guests to weddings, dinners, champagne outings, sightseeing tours, and other special occasions. By the way, the petrol gauge was the fastest moving thing in that car.
The Elegance and Timeless Luxury of the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II
The automotive world is rife with legends, but few evoke the same sense of timeless luxury and sophistication as the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II. Born from the prestigious Rolls-Royce stable, the Silver Wraith II is a masterpiece that seamlessly blends power, elegance, and craftsmanship. From its inception in the mid-20th century to its enduring legacy, the Silver Wraith II remains an icon of automotive opulence.
Historical Background:
The Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II made its debut in 1977, building on the illustrious heritage of the original Silver Wraith introduced in 1946. The "II" in its name denotes its evolution, incorporating modern design elements and advanced engineering while retaining the classic Rolls-Royce essence. Renowned for its stately presence and aristocratic demeanour, the Silver Wraith II quickly became the vehicle of choice for discerning individuals seeking the pinnacle of automotive luxury.
Design and Aesthetics:
At first glance, the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II exudes an air of timeless sophistication. Its long, sleek lines and distinguished silhouette reflect the meticulous craftsmanship that went into its creation. The exterior is marked by the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, standing proudly on the imposing radiator grille. The attention to detail is evident in every inch of the car, from the handcrafted coachwork to the chrome accents that adorn its exterior.
The interior of the Silver Wraith II is a sanctuary of luxury and comfort. Opulent leather upholstery, sumptuous wood veneers, and hand-polished metal trim create an atmosphere of refined elegance. The rear compartment, in particular, offers an unparalleled experience with plush seating, fold-down tables, and an array of controls for climate and entertainment. The Silver Wraith II embodies the essence of a chauffeur-driven luxury car, providing a haven of tranquility for its occupants.
Performance and Engineering:
Under the hood, the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II is powered by a formidable V8 engine, delivering a blend of power and refinement. The engineering prowess of Rolls-Royce ensures a smooth and silent ride, making the Silver Wraith II a paragon of driving comfort. The sophisticated suspension system further enhances the driving experience, effortlessly gliding over any imperfections in the road.
Legacy and Cultural Impact:
The Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II is not merely a mode of transportation; it is a symbol of status, prestige, and enduring quality. Over the decades, it has become synonymous with the elite, gracing the driveways of heads of state, royalty, and celebrities. Its appearances in films, literature, and cultural events have solidified its place in the collective imagination as the epitome of automotive luxury.
In the world of automobiles, the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II stands as a testament to the enduring allure of craftsmanship and luxury. Its timeless design, impeccable engineering, and cultural impact have secured its place in automotive history. The Silver Wraith II is not just a car; it is a rolling masterpiece that transcends time, embodying the pinnacle of automotive refinement and elegance.

@@MarxWegener that is heavy on fuel. I imagine though that this was mainly city stop and go driving. My 2012 Ford Escape with a v6, 3 litre and all wheel drive gets anywhere from 11L/100 km’s to 13L/100 km’s. I did have a 2005 Ford 500 with a 3 litre had a best rating of 8L/100 but was usually around 11L.

My best friend owned the same year and make Roller as yours. Came from a very wealthy collector who had full-time mechanics staff. I mean huge a collector, he owned Meral Norman Cosmetics. My friend felt confident the car with 30,000 miles was well taken care of however it just kept breaking down. Yes, it was fun but always needed work. Normal maintenance such as brakes took 3 months to receive parts from England. It would become undrivable while at the mechanics waiting for parts. He finally signed it over to the garage and walked away from it.

You can buy those RR for little money. But you need to spend a lot of money getting them into shape. Have at least $25k ready to spend on the gearbox, diff and steering rack. The the rust removal is another big expense. But the most costly item are the electrics. You are better off rewiring the car completely then repairing the wiring. The wiring is shockingly bad. We had to redo the aircon as well. That alone was around $7000.

The electrics are badly done. Short circuits constantly. The aircon was the first part we dumped. The steering box and the gear box failed. The the diff fell apart. And after the petrol pump failed when I just finished a wedding I decided to retire the car. It was too unreliable for business purposes. And no repair was under $1000. The only thing that never gave any trouble at all was the motor. The car looked good but was badly made.
