Blood on the Tracks and Desire are two of my favorite Dylan albums as well. I can't wait to watch this movie. I'd love to see some full shows from this tour as well. I saw Dylan twice. The first time was at a 6,100-seat arena in '98 and the 2nd was in '99 when he was touring with Paul Simon. I would have loved to see Dylan play with the Dead.

Marvellous review, James!. Such beautiful film. Watch it tonight for the second time. Without knowing well the character and the musician I've enjoyed so much with all those wonderful songs and the. Scorsese makes it again. I need to rewatch The Last Waltz, and watch that previous "No direction home" , it sounds amazing. I'm counting the days too for "Once Upon..." and "The Irishman". What a year! Long live the cinema!

Not sure how non-Dylan fans will respond. I might suggest you see 'The Last Waltz' (1978) first.

When I was a kid I was tall and skinny with glasses and teased hard so while I didn’t love Bob Dylan, the fact that he became a superstar gave me faith in humanity. You didn’t have to be a certain type. There were a few but Dylan and Donn Knotts movies on Sunday afternoons were my own personal moment of clarity. (Freakin’ LOVE Donn! Did you know his whole body was a weapon?;) So yeah I’ll look at this for sure.

Just starting your review but I loved this movie. Scorsese’s last Dylan doc made me a huge fan and this doc was a great introduction to this era of his career which I have mostly avoided until now.

Like his music or not, and I am not a folk music fan, you have to admire the man's persistence is always challenging himself; and any look back at the Dazed and Confused Era in America has my attention. It was to put it mildly, a "unique" time.

Sadly I remember almost none of that period firsthand. My memories first start to take shape at my fourth birthday party in 1980.

@@geekinwithJamesHancock It would not be unduly harsh to say that the 70's were the hangover from the 60's, a time of bad fashions, bad haircuts, bad politicians, ugly porno, and too many drugs, but I would say that the time between Nixon's resignation and the 4th of July, 1976 were the best years of the decade.

My favorite movie of the year so far, I liked it more than The Last Waltz because there was something more than just a concert. Scorsese is my fav director, saw all his films except Kundun and Alice doesn't live here anymore and I absolutely adore ALL of his movies except for Boxcar Bertha wich I kind of liked. Have you seen the movie I'm Not There? A film about Bob Dylan but it's not conventionnal and it's a masterpiece.

I don’t have Netflix. Why is Scorsese doing this? Why does he not release it to the public. I actually only know one person that has Netflix and they have it for their kid only. Thanks for your review James Was he pissed off at HBO? He had success with Boardwalk Empire but they cancelled that dog that he and Mick Jagger were behind. I watched the whole season and it sucked lol. Just a thought. Netflix probably offering a whole lot more money.

Mega MovieZ sorry no not almost everyone. Everyone I know but one does NOT have it. I live in NYC not some little town. The download numbers they report may be inflated. Who is checking? How many languages is it in? Billions of people have no phones and no computers and most importantly NO INTEREST. Their content seems to be 90% pure mediocrity

Geekin' with James Hancock I already saw on Rolling Stone certain inaccuracies about his Dylan piece. I don’t understand why a director of his caliber has to worry about financing so that he has to get in bed with anyone. I love a lot of his stuff but found gangs of New York to be overlong and a bit of a bore and tried it a few times. I don’t really feel so cheated on not being able to see this movie he has coming up. I don’t have time to watch everything I want to anyway. Hope he is happy with his new butt buddies
