Nice tour of your bench and explanation of everything. Subscribed! I hope to watch more of your videos and get inspired to "take the leap". I watched your video on the Resistance Soldering vs Traditional Soldering....I would prefer the resistance soldering method..but it is pretty expensive.

Love your work! There used to be a rolling ball sculpture at the Children's Museum in Portland, Oregon that filled a 5' X 5' x 8' glass case. I could watch it for hours. What makes me nervous is all those metal rings on your fingers just waiting to form a very high amperage circuit. Be careful friend:)

Thanks for your informative video! I am trying to make one too, and when I shop the copper wire in Amazon, I saw the copper wire as least has 2 type, "half hard" and "dead soft". So, should I use "half hard"? or, are there any other harder version copper wire you are using? Thanks in advance

Both of your videos are good and informative. Can you estimate how many manhours of trial and error did you put in before you felt confident to start your prototype and how many manhours did you put in on making your prototype?

Thanks Dave. Hours and hours. Before the prototype I made two previous prototypes . Experimenting with other wires and solder methods and non stainless balls that were heavier but rusted. Essentially my habit is to try to do things quick and cheap, but I’ve recently learnt that this hobby is best approached slow and without skimping. It’s absolutely pushing my patience tolerance to the max. Which is why I love it. ❤️

You're very organized, I've picked up some good ideas from you. I've been using steel wire for similar (more basic) projects. Do you prefer copper for any particular reasons, other than how nice it looks? How do you attach the shaft on the motor to the shaft on the lift?

Thanks. I just love copper. I attached the motor in a very bad way using force and friction. It’s not very good and I don’t have any photos.

@@CopperGravityhave you considered using epoxy for permanent mounts, or threading the inside of the tubes for the motor shafts? Just asking, as I’ve yet to make my first sculpture.

I'm fairly new to soldering. Ive been using Sn99 Ag0.3 Cu0.7 to solder steel wire. Does this also work with copper wire? I'm thinking about trying it out as well. Thanks!

If it solders steel, it’ll definitely solder copper. Copper is the most common metal used in electronics and most soldering is for electronic applications.

You make it look so easy. I just can't seem to get two bits of wire to bond. The solder just beads around where I want it to join. I don't suppose you give lessons, do you?

Hi mark. Is the iron hot enough for the metal? Have you tried flux? I’m not an instructor, but I expect there are some online videos.

@@CopperGravity Thanks for replying. I'm using flux, yes. I think it might be the heat that's the problem. I thought maybe it was because I'm using a cheapish iron instead of a higher wattage station, but saw another tutorial that says a £20 iron is fine. I'll be trying again but letting the iron heat the copper wire a bit longer this time.

man thank you for going into detail on all that! I am going to make one in the next month (well START my first...) I have a question about the finishing. I have some copper jewelry that was wrapped out of The same type of wire that I've been wearing daily for years and it hasn't corroded or rusted or changed at all (besides dulling a bit but I put that down to me playing with it lol) Is that all necessary? It seems like the most expensive part to invest in but if there is a valid difference I might wait another 6 months to start.

I always pre-polish the copper when I add it. Should be fine. Good luck.

Do you still use the HD Gel or just the cleaning bubbles?

Is your 2mm copper wire coated? If not, where do you buy uncoated?

you said "I put my soldering iron on Maximum".....what wattage iron would you recommend?

I have a 25 watt iron. But I recently upgraded to resistance soldering which I’m beginning to use 100% over a traditional heat iron. I will do a video soon.
