    I think that they took advantage of his naivety a little bit in this deal. He could have at least asked for $80, 000 for the 40% and $2 royalty only until they got their money back, rather than in perpetuity, but he had zero negotiation skills unfortunately. I'm happy for him either way because the business is a success now so everyone is eating well including him.

However each pair of product sold will give $2 back to the sharks (50 cents each) until their 12.5k investment is achieved. Then the $2 per product royalty goes away leaving the sharks with their 10% equity each. 6 months late but there's your answer.

    The royalties was over the top for this deal, they could have done it without it because they only have to move 25,000 units for their $12,500 investment to be paid back., $2 split by 4 for 12500. This can go 3 ways. Bad marketing doesn't make sales, or good marketing and makes millions, or license. This guy could have kept way more for $50k, but he'll find out if his going to makeillions sooner I guess. Easiest 3million he'll make on shopping channels.
