Rollerblade Macroblade 90 Inline Skate Review

Ойын-сауық

The Macroblade 90 by Rollerblade is a decent inline skate but at the $280 price point but there are better options available to be honest. In my opinion the Macroblade 80 or even the Zetrablade is a more solid choice. They do the same job, are more comfortable, lighter and cost less. If you're going to spend around $300 for a new pair of inline skates you better off going with the Macroblade 100 3WD.
I found the Macroblade 90 to be the most uncomfortable skate in the Rollerblade lineup. Not sure why as the boot seems the same as the Macroblade 80, perhaps it's because this skate is so much heavier. Maybe it was the lace system. Maybe I just got a shitty pair.
That being said, if you are looking for a inline skate with 90mm wheels the Macroblade 90 is better than the competition (K2 FIT 90 BOA). The Macroblade 90 is WAY more comfortable than the K2 FIT 90 BOA.
The Macroblade 90 comes with 90mm 84A wheels paired with SG9 bearings which wear exceptionally well and provide reasonable value at this price point.
NOTE: I am NOT an affiliate and didn't get JACK SHIT for doing this review. I am just an independent inline skate enthusiast who would like to help as many people as I can find the right rollerblades so they can get outside and be healthier by doing more cardio.
Thank you for watching! Thank you even more for liking the video and commenting on it.

    Hello Nena! If I was deciding between those two models I would choose the Macroblade 80 because finding replacement wheels will be much easier. The 90mm wheel size is not as popular as the 80mm or 100mm so they just don't make as many 90mm replacement wheels. Even for an experienced skater such as yourself you won't notice much of a positive difference in terms of speed or a smoother ride with the extra 10mm of diameter in the wheels. 100mm is where I start to notice those positives in my skates. For that reason I believe the extra cost of going to a 90mm wheeled skate is also not worth it either. That's just my personal opinion, I'm sure some would disagree but those are the reasons I skate two pairs of 80mm skates and two of the 100mm. Hope that helps! Enjoy your new purchase! Nothing like the first ride on a new pair of blades. Happy skating!

I've found a pair of barely-used Macro 90s for $50 on the market, and am considering those over the Zetrablades, as it seems like a good deal. You seem to favor the Zetras, but for long-distance skating and the low price point of these Macros, which would you pick?

  • @TheLastHonestInfluencer

    For $50 I'd take the macroblade 90's in a second, especially for long distance cross training. For someone like yourself used to long frequent training sessions the macroblade will stand up better and the wheels are likely a bit higher quality. When it comes time to replace the wheels if you have a hard time finding 90mm for a reasonable price 80mm wheels will also work just fine. Buy them asap!! Hi Ryan, some people can definitely learn on 100's. The gf bought a pair of 3WD 100's as her very first pair this year (against my advice!) They only have ankle high support, basically the hardest skate for a new person to learn on. It was a steep learning curve but after a month she loves them now. So yeah man I say go for it. Your logic is solid, if you only want one pair why risk outgrowing them (which you probably will quickly with little 80mm wheels). I'm liking my 100mm's more and more, the speed is a blast. They are a lot smoother as well. Happy skating man! Please come back and let me know how you like them. Cheers

    Hi, I just bought my first pair (the 90’s). I did feel a much better rolling resistance with the 90’s over the 80’s. And the shoes are personal how they fit, the 90’s did feel better dan the 80’s. So I think the way you think about this is really personal experience... Do you know from your experience, if better wheels make a much difference in how they react? Or is this more depending on the frame?

  • @TheLastHonestInfluencer

    @TheLastHonestInfluencer

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello, I would say the wheels definitely make a difference in how they react. The larger the wheel the faster you will roll but the harder it will be to make sharp turns. That is why I suggest a 3 wheel 100mm skate over a 4 wheel 90 or 100mm. Just my personal opinion of course, I prefer an 80mm wheel or a 100mm 3 wheel as I find then you can choose your skates exactly how you want them to feel based on what kind of skating you will be doing that specific training session. I find the 90mm wheels to be not the best at anything just sort of right in the middle...but maybe because they are your first pair they will be perfect for you. To be honest I am being really fussy with my skates because I've been skating a long time. As a beginner you might not even be able to notice these differences until you have a few hundred kilometers of experience. The Macroblade 90 is still a solid skate and if they were my only choice I would certainly take them and still get great training sessions. Hope that helps! Happy skating and thank you for your comment.

    @@TheLastHonestInfluencer thanks for your reply! My choice for 90 was that it would go a bit faster than 80. 100 maybe a obvious choice than but I want to roll of objects and from what I’ve seen, 4 wheels give more stability then since you don’t have a wheel in the middle of your feet. Maybe for experienced skater this is no problem but this was my conclusion to prefer 90’s over 80’s. And from testing two pair of rollerblades I did notice a difference in 80’s vd 90’s in rolling resistance... well my next pair will be an 80’s or 100 I think as soon as I know what type of riding I prefer 😂 (or both 🤪)

    @@bernovanderwal yeah honestly if you don’t have experience then getting a 3 wheel setup isn’t ideal. It’s higher off the ground and less stable. However, I had a really cheap pair when rollerblades first came out (wheels were a very cheap hard plastic) in the early 90’s and I used them from street hockey games to tricks and going down an incline I got a rock caught in between the wheels on my lead skate and I took a nose dive head first (we didn’t wear helmets back then unfortunately) into the concrete, which might not have happened had I had a softer wheel like the 80’s do. Like he said bigger wheeled 90’s will be faster with a harder wheel but the 80’s have a softer wheel which makes for a smoother ride but the wheels will wear quicker depending on how often you skate and how you stop. These rollerblades now (even the cheap ones) have much better bearings and the materials for the wheels are much better than what I used almost 30yrs ago. I will say the blades I had back in the day had a full solid plastic boot and gave great support and you could take the insert out. These budget-mid blades don’t seem to offer much support IMO from the pics I’ve seen. I’m 40 now so I’m looking to get another pair mostly for fitness and recreational use on the bike path. I do love the color scheme of those 80’s with the bright fluorescent yellow and grey but looking at them makes me question the support available. But I haven’t had a pair recently so maybe they’re ok

    Get this question a lot you’re right I should do a video on this! You will hardly notice speed gains going from 80mm to 90mm. The only thing you will notice on 84mm is the extra cost. Some people say the wheels last a tiny bit longer, it’s almost imperceptible, you won’t notice them being faster (I definitely did not). My advice to you is if an 84mm skate with 84mm wheels is the same price as 80mm then it’s ok to get them, but then when it’s time to replace the wheels go with 80mm replacements as they are usually way less expensive and just as good. Just my two cents hope that helps!

    I do see the benefits of 80mm wheels, but being 6'2" with a 307mm foot (size 13 macroblades), I am leaning towards the macroblade 90 for the longer frame . Does that make sense or am I overthinking the frame length thing?

  • @TheLastHonestInfluencer

    @TheLastHonestInfluencer

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Alex! Just my personal opinion (being a larger heavier person with big feet as well) I've found that wheels size changes the feel of the skates much more noticeably than the frame length. It's so tricky with blades because we all like a different feel bit it's so hard to determine what we like without being able to skate all the different size frames and wheels. The reason I'd steer clear of the 90mm now is this: the 80mm and 100mm wheels are far more popular and easy to find replacements. And you'll go through more sets than you think if you skate a lot. I like the feel of 80mm and I like the feel of 100 but the 90's are just a strange size for me. The 80's you're low to the ground and can cut hard corners they feel neat for a change. The 100's you're up high and they feel so fast, smooth and glide with way less effort. The 90's don't have either of those benefits they just feel, meh. Just my opinion tho, you might love them and if you find a pair of 90's for a good deal I'm sure they'll be great skates. We're really just splitting hairs here. Hope that helps and doesn't make it harder ha ha! Happy skating and thank you for the comment!

But a longe distance requires performance and the fast I can go the longer I can make, isn't it? Please help give some ideas in order to make a decision between them. Thanks for advance! BR, Péter!

    Hi Peter! Basically the biggest difference is your crusing speed. If you want to cruise at 20kph on the 80mm it takes a lot more work. So if you have a nice long straight path and you like to go faster, get the 100mm. If speed isn't your thing or you have more stops and turns to make I'd go with the 80mm. Hope that helps! One more factor can be maybe the quality of the avarage tracks, if I have not the best road-quality to go on in my sourrandings than it would be one more point for the 100 I guess, isn't it? Another question, do you have experience with the Rollerblade SIRIO 100 3WD 2021? I could buy it for the same price as the macroblade 100 3wd. Which would be better and first of all more comfortable? @@Toresz999 you're absolutely right, the 100mm are so much smoother on rougher surfaces that a huge benefit to the larger wheels too. I've not tried the SiRIO but based on their design I'd say they will be even faster than the macroblade as the ankle angle is a tad more agressive and a few mm higher on the frames. The soft boots look very similar so I think they would both be very similar in terms of comfort. Hope to get a pair of the SiRIO to try this season, they look sweet. The options are overwhelming at first. I don't notice any difference between abec 7 and 9 to be completely honest. If you have skated before (even decades ago) 3 wheel skates would be fine. The difference is you can corner sharper on 3 wheels and accelerate more quickly but your top speed isn't as fast as 4 wheels. I find 3wd skates lighter and easier on my hip flexors and joints but I only noticed that when skating over 20km every day last summer. Inline skating is such a great low impact form of cardio, I hope you go for it! Any other questions feel free to ask :). Hopefully that was useful info.

I'm not a fan of 110 MM wheels on four skates because 110 they make skinnier to save weight 100 mm wheels are thicker and wider so to me they feel better on a four-wheel skate but the 110s with the skinny wheels feel phenomenal on a three-wheel skate I have every reason to assume the macroblade 110 3wd is going to feel exactly like the 100 with the 110 wheels and I would guess that it's amazing but that's the honest to God truth.
