+JAKATTA76 you can be deaf in roller derby!? From my playing experience, the ability to hear is kind of important... Actually, it's very important. You have to be able to hear when your number, color, and penalty are being called, signs alone are absolutely impossible to rely on when you are playing and have to keep your eyes on the game. +justine schmitt Yes, there are quite a few deaf skaters in roller derby. The referees are made aware of who is either hard of hearing or completely deaf prior to the start of games. Their teammates help them if they get a penalty, by either tapping them and pointing, or however else they have chosen to communicate.

Just to clarify, there are not separate verbal cues or and signals for forearms and hands in WFTDA. wftda.com/rules/wftda-official-hand-signals.pdf 6.5 - The arm is bent at the elbow, with the elbow pointing forward. The hand contacts the forearm. wftda.com/rules/wftda-officiating-verbal-cues.pdf 6.5 - Use of forearms and hands is "Forearms"

Appreciate the hand signals and slow mo, but the extra lines on the track make it that much more difficult and confusing for a newbie ref. Helps a bit, but adds confusion for me personally

+Eric R Cut track is specifically when you cut the track(going off the track), skating out of bounds is when you continue to skate out of play

+Eric R Justine's answers to your question are incorrect. (Sorry Justine) Cutting the Track is when a skater goes out of bounds(whether hit or on their own volition while attempting a block, and while re-entering the track, cuts in front the blocker that hit them out, or one opposing blocker OR two of their own teammates.

+Eric R For skating Out of Bounds- Skaters may not skate outside the track boundary to gain speed to effect a block, may not skate or gain speed to shorten the distance to re-enter the track (if hit out, the skater must either enter perpindicular to the track boundary OR skate clockwise (non-derby direction) to enter behind teammates or opposing blockers who had superior position (aka-ahead of the skater prior to going out of bounds) wftda.com/rules/20141201/section/5.12

First off, I don't see what she did wrong in to get a false start. Second, when it comes to illegal use of forearms, is it like still okay to burst through the pack using the tops of your arms? Third, is a multi-player block penalty why when blockers use the bridge they only have one person at a time doing the actual blocking?

Hey William Ray, thanks for your questions. False start- the jammers toe stop was over the jam start line before the whistle (in this case the red line on the floor) Illegal use of forearms- it is not ok to use your forearms at any point to gain an advantage in play. In this case the jammer "swam" her forearms through to gain an advantage on the opposing skaters. Multi-Player Block- this is when 2 players link parts of their bodies together (in this case grabbing onto one another) obstructing the jammer to break through that point. Bridging however is different from a multi-player- "Bridging": blockers move ahead of the main pack by up to 10 feet to stretch out the pack. This also stretches out the engagement zone, allow their team members to continue hindering the opposition jammer. +West Kootenay Roller Derby False Start update: The whistle is NOT blown at the false start. A verbal cue and hand signal is issued as a warning, only. If the skater does not yield, then the standard issuance of a penalty with commence.

Are these all things your not allowed to do??

yes, its the Penalties signals & verbal cues. if a Ref calls this on you, you should get to the Penalty Box & sit for 30 seconds (20 seconds actually, as you'll be asked to STAND in the last 10).
