Roli RISE 25/49 - Bricked and Fixed!

Музыка

The Roli Dashboard is currently telling Roli RISE 25/49 users to update to the latest firmware, which bricks at least some devices. Here is the way to roll back the firmware once you have updated and the dashboard is unresponsive.

Thanks for this video, it does explain the Roli saga well. My 49 stopped working on a new MB Pro when I upgraded to Ventura (I think) but still worked on an old MB Pro with Catelina, at least until recently, it may still do but its plugged into the wall to charge it up at the moment, but I may have just updated dashboard, yikes! Bought mine for +/- 1k back in the day (and I had to save for it) but I think the moral of the story really should have been don't buy it... maybe the v2 which has real midi out may be worth a _look_, but the original was pretty much computer only, or usb midi host, which was a pain till a few synths, Iridium desktop, etc., had that built in. Any way I switched to analog away from the kind of Roli eco system where you were pretty much locked in... bad business if you ask me (which you didn't... but thanks for listening anyway ;). All that back and forth with Roli support... nah. Think the Roli's make for a good wall decoration but that's about it, personally I'd advise anyone to stay clear of most if not all of their products, which is a shame cos when I first saw it I was like 'wow', now it's like NFW if they can't keep v1 working and basically try to force people into buying v2, then v2 will probably share the same fate. Mind you... 1k is about the same as a phone these days and they are pretty much disposable fixed battery items, so who knows maybe that is what the Roli SBs are, disposable toys rather than musical instruments built to last. One for the display cabinet, next to the Blackberry.

I have the original Seaboard Rise 25 ... but the middle C key sticks and keeps droning. I put in a Roli "Support" request, but haven't yet heard back ... not even an automated email acknowledgement. I've heard of other people having "stuck keys" ... but never hear any follow up threads or comments as to whether they found a solution. Do you know anything about 'stuck keys' and how to fix it?

Yeah, I had that issue as well. Usually a droning key just means something is shorting which can just be dust / debris on the key surface strip area. If you open it up and clean the surface under the keys (I just used compressed air) that should help. It might be ok to clean it with alcohol or something like that as well, though I would check with ROLI.

Do you have any troubleshooting for when Roli wont show up in SysEx or MIDI-OX?

No, probably try a factory reset, but if it doesnt even show up as a usb device, you probably do need the new USB board

You can transmit SysEx using any DAW. Set the target MIDI port. Drag the file into the MIDI channel of the DAW. Press play. 100BPM is probably a good idea, so the messages don't transmit too quickly. I used to backup and deploy firmware to my outboard synths in Logic without issue.

Yessir! When bricked, though, it doesn't show up as valid midi device, so the DAWs I tried didn't see it at all. The nice thing about Sysex Librarian is that it gets all USB connected devices though, so the RISE shows up even when bricked.
