i was at bahamas last year they had a full show case for the window shoppers and completely full inside lost of double and triples of watches i was trying to persuade the rolex dealer on selling something and said i dont want to get fired i'm like what do you mean your making a sale and she said that dealer took something extra on the side

I told my sales assistant to keep me in mind if anything interesting in 36mm comes in that I havent already asked for - basically telling him ill buy any datejust he offers me, and he still never reached out to me. I have sales history too

Been going on for decades, they used to sell to greys at a discount to move stubborn stock .

I went to an out of state AD today on my travels because I pass through the area a lot, asked me what I wanted and I told them I have been aspiring for a sprite/Batman. The woman was straight up and honest with me, and said those are not too far fetched, mind you I HAVE NO HISTORY WITH THEM, just walked in and met them for the first time. The woman said, if you were looking for a Pepsi , those are pretty hard to get due to the well-known shortage world wide. She also asked what else do you like and I said Daytona, then proceeded to tell me that’s not impossible to get, but you have a better chance to get a 2 tone one if you are interested. Basically she told me a watch more than likely can be had within the time period of right now- my important milestone coming up. She even told me not to worry about what bracelet the GMT will come in, because she could order me whatever bracelet I want oyster or jubilee after I get it. That was extremely shocking to know that I could have a stainless GMT master within a reasonable amount of time, I’ve been trying to get a sprite for two years now.

Rolex company should investigate AD, this is suck for consumers. People should stop buying watches from gray market.

The greys are still buying certain models as there are good margins on some watches it just mean the greys will now have to start buying jewellery and lady datejusts etc as a thank you. The highly sort after models will still be trading out the back door dont kid yourself

Alright, is it time you pulled the curtain back a little more and revealed exactly how the "Watch Market" is completely false? How these fast-talking watch dealers move most of their inventory between other dealers and how each exchange inches up the speculative price of a watch. When a random sucker buys a watch at an inflated price, the whole inside trading cycle restarts until the price is beyond even the silliest consumer. It's a Ponzi where these dealers thought the customer would be left holding the watch, but their greed has backfired. Now they are stocking watches 2x+ over their value with no hope.

You’re spot on. With the exception of steel Daytonas, Pepsi, borderline Batman and maybe some Daytonas on Oysterflex. Almost everything else is fair game right now and will be for awhile

The watches they offer will be the dogs that don’t move. Precious metal, S&G, Datejust, etc. the ones that they can’t shadow shift to their IN-HOUSE gray market, the CPO program. Rolex took your advice that the grays were not going to buy.. and they made their own gray market. It feels soooooo good when you go in looking for a watch and they say, no, we can’t get that, but we can get it CPO. Screw that!

If Rolex really wanted to find out it is very easy ….. buy one at the grey muppets shop and they would know which AD sold it back door ……but do they really want to know in Geneva? Let’s say it …. only Daytonas, Subs and GMT’s sell over MSRP now …. The profit there has to compensate for the shitters which don’t sell ….. but 40% profit margin ……the watch market has way to go down more ….. slide slide slide😂

Some AD’s sell to a customer (friend) then the friend sells it for a premium on the gray market and split the profit with the AD. The normal customer doesn’t have a shot at getting a desirable Rolex.

There’s no more profit to make, grey dealer don’t even want to buy at retail price. Best option for ADs is to start treating their customers with respect so they can still sell sh$t

Mayors is watches of Switzerland, they will only call you once the watch is at retail or below. The first watches they will let you buy are the full gold 40k plus models that nobody wants or can afford anymore. My best new watch is the studio underdog watermelon, was $600

What Juan says is true - there was a lengthy article in the Financial Times about Chicago Rolex AD selling unscrupulously. Some AD’s do this for sure, but some are honest and do r do this

I said a long time ago that some of Rolex AD's tactics are cheap and tacky, such as forcing consumers to first purchase undesirable watches before they can have what they really want. The truth eventually comes out, this is creating very bad PR for its consumers and prospective consumers, to be honest, I am kind of over Rolex for now as much as I know they have a great product. I am a versatile consumer and a true watch geek; I love Grand Seiko, Omega and just about every other high quality swiss brand out there. Bad habits eventually will need changing and this is the start.

Of course….thats why you can literally get any Rolex you want immediately wanted to pay for it. There was never any scarcity.

my AD has ghosted me. I emailed him and no answer. I'm out of the game. I'll use the money to make money.

I have plenty of evidence. I'm a longtime vintage collector in NYC. I used to run with a group of collectors/dealers on 47th and beyond that had a few plugs. The internal distributors from the main office would send Excel spreadsheets with watch models and prices on the condition that you keep your mouth shut and move the watches quietly. Boxes and manuals, but no papers (warranty). The most egregious was a member of the holy trinity who would unload slow movers (dogs) at as low as 30% off retail. In the early 2000s, I would buy packs from ADs, mostly "junk"; Hamilton, Longines, Turnographs, Tiger Tudors, Zenith, etc. I'm not, nor have I ever been, a dealer, just a collector and trader.

What's the proof, beyond anecdotal? Im sure this occurred with some - my guess very few- AD's....but not many at all.

stake out a store. They ARE selling watches. Even Mayors in florida. Stand outside the store for a couple hrs and youll see people leaving with gmts. Its just YOU they dont care about
